Damien Hirst, a little bit deuchy?, by lollo88 on Dec 28, 2020 19:47:22 GMT 1, I always thought Damien Hirst is more of a brand than an actual artist. Donโt get me wrong, there is something about his works, just not enough to place him on that pedistal where he currently stands. Of course this is my personal opinion and only counts as one vote in our beautiful democratic world. Anyhow, lately my feelings regarding him as a person have evolved in this direction: โis he making fun on anyone who owns anything made by him every single time he opens his mouth?โ. I donโt know if any of you follow his Instagram account, but I have this feeling where he is deliberately being an uptight ass. I mean, he looks and sounds like a giant deuche...Iโm sorry I canโt put this into words any better, but itโs just a blurred feeling. Anybody feels the same way?

Damien Hirst, a little bit deuchy?, by poofly on Dec 28, 2020 20:10:10 GMT 1, maybe he's just breaking the mould of what an artist can be. He's also wildly successful, so there's that.

Damien Hirst, a little bit deuchy?, by cnrdvln on Dec 28, 2020 21:10:13 GMT 1, funny reading this, I was going to post this morning about his last three videos on Instagram.
I found them brilliant as he talked about three early works. how he painted the spots and then how his assistants painted them perfectly , how it annoyed him for so long. very interesting ๐
Most of the stuff is more about him as a person and his personality. he likes grime so why not meet Giggs.
Another thing I really liked is when he did an AMA in three parts. he answered questions honestly and that spoke volumes about him.
I think overall he handles social media better than most artists.
As mentioned on the recent Talkart podcast with Stephen Fry, he says Damien doesn't care what anyone thinks, about him or his works, and we need people like him to make art. (paraphrasing)
Ps. that episode is brilliant, the lads shut up and just let Stephen do his thing

Damien Hirst, a little bit deuchy?, by rosac on Dec 28, 2020 22:45:46 GMT 1, Damoโs recent Instagram videos have been great!
It has changed my opinion of him. I thought it was really interesting how he openly speaks about his assistants painting his later spot paintings for him. in fact his assistants created the perfect spot paintings, the early spot paintings which Hirst painted where much less polished, they evolved overtime mainly due to his assistants it seems...
Explored, Explaned, Exploded was very insightful aswell.
He strikes me as a very honest, intelligent and gifted artist

Damien Hirst, a little bit deuchy?, by Charlie Bronson on Dec 28, 2020 22:58:02 GMT 1, I feel the opposite. I enjoy his IG videos, especially the ones as of late where he shows and explains the meaning behind some of his earliest works. Heโs opening himself up to ridicule by doing so, but does it anyway; imho thatโs commendable.
Also, heโs arguably the most successful living artist and yet he takes the time to respond to questions from fans on his IG. Seems like heโd be fun to hang out with. Iโve become more of a fan since following him on IG about a year ago.

Damien Hirst, a little bit deuchy?, by lollo88 on Dec 29, 2020 0:57:08 GMT 1, Itโs funny how I had this feeling specifically watching the last three videos. And, again, I do see all of your points and donโt necessarily disagree with any of you. But the last three videos were all like (to my ears) โyeah I made this medicine cabinet a while back, donโt remember how the piece is called, not sure how many I made of this edition, ...โ. I didnโt know I had the feeling he was playing it down in a weird way. Or maybe it is the other point that was made about him being one of those dads that tries to outplay his age and that feeling drove me off path. But I do agree that Daniel Arsham wins this trophy any day of the week.

Damien Hirst, a little bit deuchy?, by lollo88 on Dec 29, 2020 1:00:47 GMT 1, ... from the guy with naked breasts for his profile icon. ๐ Nick Smith vs Damien Hirst would be a quick race to the bottom
I donโt agree though, the image deconstruction Nick Smith does finds me quite interested. Especially the process he made with the three original pieces of โAmerican gothicโ, where he progressively deconstructed the image to a lower definition to see until what point your mind would be able to regress to the original image. I find it quite fascinating. Then of course he does play the easy pop images like the hating dog, the Marylins and the Simpsonโs couch, but still I donโt dislike his work

Damien Hirst, a little bit deuchy?, by Charlie Bronson on Dec 29, 2020 18:36:56 GMT 1, He posted up a new video today, showing a piece that consists of two unplugged freezers with a bunch of severed cow heads in them. He said youโre supposed to replace the cow heads every six months. I wonder if itโs a pain in the ass to find a dozen cow heads. Seems like a lot of work finding and then replacing them every six months. But I suppose someone who owns a large scale Damien Hirst piece would pay someone to do that. Iโm starting to look forward to the daily, morning video posts from Hirst.

Damien Hirst, a little bit deuchy?, by josephwillis123 on Dec 30, 2020 14:21:19 GMT 1, I think he has a great Instagram. Especially the recent series of videos. I don't feel its all that common for an artist of his status to give such great insight into their construction process and thought process behind the works. I hope he continues this. His work isn't liked by everyone, but whos works is universally enjoyed? If you enjoy his work, I would say you are likely to enjoy his instagram and his behind the scenes posts. To each their own though.

Did he mention the symbolism of his latest work per chance? I'd be interested to know but I'm not on instagram. I can recommend Dalston Market for fresh replacement cow heads, they sell all sorts of weird exotic dead or even alive creatures to eat or use as art.

But I suppose someone who owns a large scale Damien Hirst piece would pay someone to do that. Iโm starting to look forward to the daily, morning video posts from Hirst. 6 months! Surely those cow heads are going to rot and stink in a matter of days. Did he mention the symbolism of his latest work per chance? I'd be interested to know but I'm not on instagram. I can recommend Dalston Market for fresh replacement cow heads, they sell all sorts of weird exotic dead or even alive creatures to eat or use as art.
