TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by saint on Aug 26, 2020 16:58:12 GMT 1, I can't see this as a 100k print, but for those who were lucky to buy it I hope it reaches those heights. I would value it around the same as morons personally, its a huge edition, and its not actually that approachable as a print imo... As much as I'd like one, and I would, I can't see it replacing any of my other pieces by Banksy that are on my walls at the moment.... Whereas there are some that if I was offered a straight swap for one of mine, I would do so.... Not taking into account value, just image at this point..... BTW, I wonder of the people who bought it, how many took the time to look into the meaning behind Basquiat's crown? Or to research him as an artist? I hope the majority, but I fear the minority.... Just a thought on a boring day. Edit- took me ages to write that reply, so it looks like I'm talking to myself, I was commenting after the 100k comment above..... I do own it and agree on value. I would be fine with it not increasing (comparatively) massively because I don't want the huge insurance premium or fear of having something so valuable on my wall. It's not that big an edition, for Banksy, is it? There are 750 Girl With Balloon, inc. signed and unsigned. Donuts is 598. Lots of big numbers on his editions. Interested if you meant anything specific on the crown? One of the reasons I like Banksquiat so much is that it has layers of meaning to it. I like that it's Banksy taking the piss out of himself, for jumping on the Basquiat ride with everyone else. But at the same time he's using the crown to show respect to someone who influenced him, in the same way Basquiat sometimes did. Could also say that where Basquiat crowned people, whether himself or his heroes, reverently, Banksy's ride is saying crowns are cheap now. You can have your ride as the king without earning it. I'm not that well read on Basquiat, so if there's another reading I'd love to know. Like you, Banksquiat isn't my favourite but I do love it. If it does hit a stupid price I may one day sell it and get a Soup Can instead. That's my favourite. I think it's the most elegant, witty encapsulation of Banksy. I was more meaning compared to say the edition of 25 CYW colour ways, or the soup can editions of 10, of which this should not IMO be as valuable (even though the soup can ed of 10, which is my favourite of all my pieces, seems to be nowhere near the price it should be).... Agreed, lots of large numbers in his editions previously. Comparing to older prints even with larger edition sizes is tough tho, not all survived, and not all were sold.....
Lots of views on the reason behind his crown online, some typically arty farty ideas, as well as some more basic ones. I didn't have a specific thought, just wondered if people had looked into it. It's such an obviously Basquiat crown to anyone who knows, but I wondered how many people had wondered about it, and how many had just thought, its Banksy, great I'll have that.... Good to hear your thinking behind it, and good that it means something to you. I guess the same thing could be said about CYW really....
Excuse any typos, on my phone and on my way home.

TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by Stonetown on Aug 26, 2020 17:02:36 GMT 1, Hand finished handles π Incorrect - for the avoidance of doubt these don't have hand finished handles.... I am an owner of a Bethlehem Trolleys and had it sent to a respected conservator to remove tape on the verso. While they had it I asked them to put the handles under the microscope so I could solve the 'hand finished' mystery. I had them include their findings, pics etc in the final report to me. They confirm that the handles were added after the fact. Its also visible where the orange color has slightly bled through to the back of the print. That all being said, I know it would be pure speculation whether it was done by B and PC doesn't list it as a hand finished print so I l leave it at that.

If I'm honest, I don't know any meaning behind Choose Your Weapon, other than Haring tribute. Don't even know why it has that name. Will read up.

Hand finished handles almost as exciting as the ice cream van giving out prints at cans ....

The bids are now on 55k (bids) on the Basquiat. And I Think it raise with 5k for every bids, I Think 5k is a large jump..

I make that Β£74,000 after fees at the current bid and without PC
I suspect this has a little more to go in this auction and that the lack of PC induces a value reduction of 20% or a bit more so ultimately this will be around 100K when all settles down in my view.

TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by jp on Aug 26, 2020 23:35:43 GMT 1, I've never seen a Monkey Parliament poster in real life. Are they particularly excellent quality? Struggling to see how people pay Β£5k+ for them, even if the painting did sell for millions. It's pretty good for a 10 pound poster. The paper has a good weight, but the image itself is a bit muddled in some places, and color separation leaves something to be desired. The upper left hand corner of the poster is where you see this the most IMO.
In contrast, the painting was absolutely fantastic. One of the best things at the 2009 show.

TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by daniel3886 on Aug 27, 2020 1:38:44 GMT 1, Handles are not hand finished. I enquired with PC last time and was informed as such.
The sale was extended 2 days due to a number of buyers struggling with the new Identity checks Artsy have put in place. If youβre trying to register and cannot please contact us and weβll help you through the process.
A note on the Banksquist, as with all Coa pending works we fully assume the risk on behalf of the buyer. In the very unlikely event of a issue the buyer will receive a full refund. Hopefully that puts any potential bidders mind at rest. If anyone has any further questions on this or any lot please contact me and Iβll help you personally.
The sale finishes tomorrow at 4pm BST. It isnβt a staggered finish and there are no extensions to bidding so get your bids in early and only what is needed to win will be used on any bid you leave.

TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by LJCal on Aug 27, 2020 2:47:17 GMT 1, Handles are not hand finished. I enquired with PC last time and was informed as such. The sale was extended 2 days due to a number of buyers struggling with the new Identity checks Artsy have put in place. If youβre trying to register and cannot please contact us and weβll help you through the process. Yeah the registration is a major pain in the ass, the tech they use fails a lot.

TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by Graham H on Aug 27, 2020 9:22:27 GMT 1, Good to see the auction house standing behind the COA issue on the Banksquiat.. ( clapping hands emoji if it was on here!)
Still would be a p*sser for the buyer to see a COA'd one worth double what they paid in a years time if they cant then get the COA ( if things carry on the way they are going!) but only get their money back.. but at least its a no lose gamble!
Good luck with the auction!

TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by JockoLad on Aug 27, 2020 18:10:59 GMT 1, Β£16k hammer. Iβve assumed a 25% commission.
Even a Β£16k hammer price is mind blowing. Flags was miles off every other print for cost only 12 months ago.
