D*Face NFT Release - Fri 19 March 5.30pm, by stillborncrisps on Mar 19, 2021 1:28:04 GMT 1, Hope you're right. Have removed my doubting reference to bots.
But even the 'open edition' has finate availability (9999), suggesting in some cases bots would have the advantage.

D*Face NFT Release - Fri 19 March 5.30pm, by gmidd on Mar 19, 2021 3:28:34 GMT 1, Hope you're right. Have removed my doubting reference to bots. But even the 'open edition' has finate availability (9999), suggesting in some cases bots would have the advantage. I've been kind of following these Nifty drops and it seems like as long as you're there during the open edition selling period then you should be fine. The "limited edition" ones will likely be harder to get unless they're auctions. It's definitely interesting to watch, but I haven't been able to bring myself to buy anything from Nifty. Still having a hard time justifying paying that much for what is essentially a glorified GIF.

D*Face NFT Release - Fri 19 March 5.30pm, by Ravnur 2020 on Mar 19, 2021 4:01:00 GMT 1, Apart from them being NFT's what do people think about the pieces as works of art? Bearing in mind we have not seen the actual loops yet!
If they are just bobbing or falling wings then I would prefer to loop some Jon Rafman, Arthur Jafa or Jeremy Shaw.

D*Face NFT Release - Fri 19 March 5.30pm, by dilu on Mar 19, 2021 8:49:14 GMT 1, While Iโve not seen the loop and my opinion is based on the static images plus Iโm 100% not behind the whole NFT (I still remember buying into minidiscs).
Bolloxs. but then again, one persons bolloxs are anotherโs fruit flies or maybe even cranberries ๐

D*Face NFT Release - Fri 19 March 5.30pm, by jimmyjam on Mar 19, 2021 8:57:11 GMT 1, Across multiple hobby forums NO ONE is buying into these NFTs.
I'm not sure what type collector or who are really buying these. It seems like young kids or people with a ton of random crypto and don't know what to do with it. I think a lot of big sales are very questionable and many are mostly for media attention - it looks like 98 percent of NFTs are already losing a lot of money.
Pretty much all the comments have been the same - in expressing not much support or eagerness to get into NFTs.

D*Face NFT Release - Fri 19 March 5.30pm, by stillborncrisps on Mar 19, 2021 14:46:41 GMT 1, it's just stupid because a) you are paying $$$ for a jpg or an mp4 that you can download b) is not clear the type of ownership and what you can actually do with them. Can you make hats and tshirts with that image now? c) size and formats are just stupid. Where do you watch it, at home on your TV? On your ipad? And then what? TV is horizontal 16:9 and these jpgs are vertical or squared. It looks crap. d) what do you show your friends or family as a proof of "ownership"... a code? e) NFTs as they are now, they are good only for the artist, the platform and a quick flipper.
To play devil's advocate while I get my own head round it all....
a) You could kind of say that about a lot of art. eg the difference between a signed and unsigned Banksy is a pencil squiggle and several thousand pounds. But it's the same print essentially. Or between a backdoor print vs official (from the same run). They're pretty much the same object, but you're paying a premium for it being classed as more 'official', the other is deemed virtually worthless.
b) think it's pretty clear - it's like any art, you own the object but not the licence or copyright for the image, so no reproducing or making merch.
c) same could be said for sculpture. A lot of it is impractical with limited display options.
d) what do you show them now, COA? PC Certificate framed next to the print?
I'm enjoying the challenge of questioning all the norms surrounding the art world. The art we own, why we own it, why does authenticity matter if it's just a nice image, etc...
Not seen the prices yet. If the open edition was the price of say, a sticker pack, I'd be cool with that. That's what I'd value a fun Gif by an artist I like to be. Somehow I think they'll be a bit more than that though.

I don't understand them at all, but I think you're wrong about point (b) - you don't even own the object, just the NFT connected to the object. There have been instances where some artists have discovered NFTs connected to their art that they didn't authorize. As I say, I don't understand them (yet).

That sounds like the real world equivalent of a bootlegger? So it wasn't the bootlegger's work to sell, and the work is essentially worthless?

D*Face NFT Release - Fri 19 March 5.30pm, by Happy Shopper on Mar 19, 2021 16:55:10 GMT 1, Apart from them being NFT's what do people think about the pieces as works of art? Bearing in mind we have not seen the actual loops yet! If they are just bobbing or falling wings then I would prefer to loop some Jon Rafman, Arthur Jafa or Jeremy Shaw. Lazy. 10 minutes learning Cinema 4D and anyone could make these. Boring. No creativity at all.

These are getting absolutely no love on the discord. Lots of Dface fans but everyone is balking at the price tag. There are enough high rollers that they'll all sell but they absolutely won't be trading at much of a profit anytime soon. These are a brick if you're expecting a quick flip.

D*Face NFT Release - Fri 19 March 5.30pm, by stillborncrisps on Mar 19, 2021 17:06:56 GMT 1, So much for my 'price of a sticker pack'.
I have to say, I think the balloons look really good. They're well made and look distinctly D-Face, very much in keeping with the D-Face world (even though he's not used 3D before). It's a concept perfect for the intended display devices and a nice nod to Warhol's balloons. Aesthetically the 3D is something that wouldn't work as a print (a Giclee maybe but I'm not a fan of those), and they don't look like a print that's been retrostpectively animated, so top marks there.
The mural ones however look absolute (d-)dog shit. This is what I was expecting a lot of artists would do - try and animate still pieces they'd already done. Those glitch effects?! The concept's weak, they look cheap. He should've kept those out of the mix.
So thumbs up for the balloons, though don't think I'll be dropping ยฃ1k on one.
