As prints have got more expensive, I think people have probably bought less.
But I still buy plenty of cheaper prints just because I like the look of them.

Iโd be willing to take a chance on an artist I enjoy who isnโt established yet for $100-150 or so. But too many as of late come in with their first print at $300+ with nothing to justify it, just using whatever galleriesโ mailing list to hawk it to collectors. If Iโm spending that kind of money and itโs a new artist Iโve got to absolutely love it and be happy keeping it forever. With an established artist I can often at least recoup most of what I spent when my enjoyment of it wanes.

of course, sure value as Invader ( not so quicik anyway these times, more tees or books than prints ) , Faile are a bit out of the stage, hyped ones as Mr Doodle, etc.. . And of course, all these reserved and bought prints in advance ( as the last Obey/Invader at Itinerance galery or on obey site, the last Mason Storm, all sold out before the drop ) ..
I think that a lot of gallery or artists, for different reasons ( shipping, vat, choosing country, avoiding Europe - we saw taht with some Clown skateboards decks - sold out too before the drop it seems) , prefer to sell before to their fidel customers, galeries, mates etc ...
Anyway, It's a new and real good question ! That we could transform in " why artists sell out mostly instantantly whenever they realease a print ? "
A Bit boring sometimes to be invaded by multiples prints or tats, 2 times a month, etc ...
Very interesting, as ( Because Covid ? or not ? ) a lot are doing that, via fora, Instagram, etc...
Too much is too much and the quality is not always here...
Anyway all the valuable prints are gone before the drop. No risks as this. Safety for the sellers.
But very annoying for fans like you and me, that live in Europe or not, and that are not VIP.....

Pricing is difficult. I price prints generally ยฃ40-ยฃ60 depending on edition, materials, effort etc and that's with me doing the printing myself. I have had galleries contact me wanting to sell my works which would in turn increase my exposure but they want me to up my prices as 50% of ยฃ40 isn't worth the hassle for either of us. But if I up my prices i'm probably less likely to sell out.

I even wrote to him as I know him since the beginning, no prints, no books, nothing... We see that in fact all hyped artists ( toys ones, Kawas, Blok ) and " easy " prints with " easy " colors and pale subjects ( most are buying for their dining room, guests, or thir dentis saloon ) , no waves, all hyped artists are selling quick ( as I sadi all is done before )...
I would like art a bit different and not so " easy "... ( no please, no Jonas Wood ) ...

Ive never bought from them, as their artists donโt fit with my taste in art.
There are still plenty of people who buy for the love of art, not money, I think, and as such donโt give two hoots whether something theyโve bought sells out or not.
