Keith Haring Galerie Watari Poster For Sale, by Roman Emperor on Jun 14, 2018 13:25:59 GMT 1, A couple of weeks ago @museumshop_onsundays on their Instagram page announced that they will sell a limited number of sheets of the poster, which was published by them (On Sundays Publication, Tokyo) in 1983.
I love that image so I asked for info and yesterday they replied:
Herewith, we may tell you details of "Keith Haring, 1983" Poster.
Price: JPยฅ30,000
525 X 680mm
2 color offset lithograph printing.
Shipping via EMS(traceable via Japan Post): cost depend on destination.
Packed with cardboard tube.
Payment before shipping. (by wire)
I remind that the lithograph is printed on Japanese pearlescent paper, Edition 1000. 30,000 yen is around Euro 230, or ยฃ203 if you prefer. If you consider shipping costs, VAT and customs duties the full price in Europe wouldn't be less than Euro 330. Not a great price considering that you can find it around Euro 250, more or less. On the other side the buyer would get a great provenance, the publisher itself!

I inspected these and could not fault them. I bought two. Both of which I still have with receipts.
The pearlescent on these is like nothing I have seen on a print. I'm with you on this... I hope they are real.
If not, what a bloody beautiful print quality. When did you buy yours?

I checked Artnet for some previous sale results and details, and there do seem to be a couple of different measurements going around. None of them coming from major auction houses, which doesn't help make sense of it.
The most common from the sales are close to, or equal to, the above measurements, and who knows how things were done back in '83.
Any ideas on this?

Shortly after that they showed up on the site as sold out only to be replaced by a second run. I emailed YL In 2018, and they confirmed the second run was also 1000, printed on a slightly thicker paper - and the price rose to 500 euro. My first run print is near mint as these were kept in storage @ YL, whilst prints from the same run that were purchased and framed up in the late 80's often come to auction with 30 years wear and tear - this can obviously cause confusion. My recollection is that this was Basquaits last show before his untimely death in the same year (1988).... |
