Art Car Boot Fair, by sohohoho on Jun 9, 2013 18:28:00 GMT 1, The organisation was pretty poor. When we arrived, we were around 120 in the queue. By the time it opened, we were well over 200. Why they didn't have barriers is beyond me. The position of the Peter Blake stall was ridiculous. Why haven't they learnt from previous years? It NEEDS to be backed against a wall. The first people in thought it would be a good idea to start forming a queue round the back, idiots. That left the front wide open to opportunists resulting in panic, crushing and a near collapse of the stall. Felt sorry for the Blake family who were genuinely scared. Probably why they started selling multiple prints to people. Lucky Sir Peter wasn't there.

If it was a structured event it just wouldn't be the same and it seemed even more popular than ever so hopefully it will happen next year.

Art Car Boot Fair, by .dappy on Jun 9, 2013 23:53:05 GMT 1, I too was a bit disappointed in this years art fair. Billed as a 10th Anniversary Special! hhhmmmm! Putting PB right at the entrance - did they not learn from past years? Gavin Turk meant to be displaying a retrospective from past years - but only came up with blown up balloons (I kid you not) Ltd Ed of 99 for £100(!) each. Polly Morgan barely had a table together - but she did display a number of her chicks . Swifty - one of the smallest collections of merchandise he has ever displayed/sold. Jessica Auburn - nice prints and originals paperweights/hex's but nowhere near the display from previous. Even Marty Thornton with his bejazzled art was stiffled! Overall I thought a lot of the pitches were smaller and poorly displayed compared to previous years.
Good to see Jealous Gallery (hi nipper & co) and Pure Evil doing good trade.
Had a nice thai from the indoor market, went back to have a less rushed look at dface's show at stolenspace, picked up a Sarah Lucas from The Colony Room Club tent and got my mugshot done by Russell Marshall, the sun did not come out - but it did not rain - so not tooo bad a day
(PS Art Car Boot Fair Flyer 'giveaway' on the FS thread)

Art Car Boot Fair, by Trevorm on Jun 10, 2013 10:17:16 GMT 1, First time for me (and Mrs trevorm). Got there about 11am but didn't queue - had a coffee and took some pics of some fairly recent pieces around and about. Picked up a nice little 'pick up' tucked away in a wall recess in Woodseer Street. Met up with 'skitchy' while he was queuing, he'd arrived at 8am and was about 100 back from the front. Got in around midday after chatting with a lady just outside who was trying to sell a Gavin T from 2009 for £200 ono - tempted but not really a fan especially after seeing the 'balloons' for £100!! I wish I'd been more resolute and got on the end of the PureEvil queue - so missed out on that bargain. Did get the £50 CB tube tho' Quite an enjoyable outing - not sure I'd queue for 4+ hours if it returns next year

I presume the idea is that the balloon deflates, otherwise the metaphor wouldn't work.

I thought it was about inflation from the posts in this thread. But honestly I haven't seen anything about the work so don't know. So probably wrong. If it is deflation then the metaphor works. But as a piece of work it's still poo. I guess the lesson here is a metaphor doesn't ways make good art. IMHO

Art Car Boot Fair, by sneakerfreak on Jun 10, 2013 21:21:32 GMT 1, My first experience and a mental one. The Peter Blake I love you print is amazing, I missed out in the mega scrum but just bought one on eBay as was really gutted, hate feeding flippers but its worth it to me. I scored the other Peter Blake commemorative print which is quite nice for £50. I thought the pure evil Audrey prints were excellent value at £20. A lady in front of me bought 20 of them, not sure they should have sold her that many as the queue was massive. Looks like they are printing a few more now though. All in all a nice day out but far too many people!
Dice - good to see you (again - gotta stop meeting in queues!) and well done for having far more patience for the Pure Evil print than I did: pleased it paid off for you eventually!
Purchase of the day for me was the Jessica Albarn Bee - print edition of only 25 and £75 beautiful and a bargain. quite liked the Mat Collishaw butterfly on fire as well, but didn't go for it in the end.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere once it calmed down a little, but agree with the other posts - you have to query the common sense of putting the Blake stall right at the front - It was absolute chaos for the first half an hour.
Still good day - hear its likely to be the last one though ...

The blue one is actually an AP hand finished with a safety pin forehead piercing (!) and nose ring. Think these will look nice on the wall altogether, and they are nice and small too, which is good.
