Art Car Boot Fair, by met on Jun 14, 2016 3:35:23 GMT 1, A couple of queries.
They'll probably come across as aggressive, arrogant and judgemental. But I'm okay with that, because the questions are also sincere:
Are there graffiti fans who'd actually frame and hang on their wall a Tracey Emin heart poster with soppy, sentimental text such as "You loved me like a distant star"?
If so, what kind of music do they listen to? I'm thinking power ballads by Bonnie Tyler or Whitney Houston, though I'm wary of making overly-hasty assumptions.

I have always wondered what the connection is between the raw art Emin can produce, the obsession with nudity, her lady bits etc...and these cheesy as fuck neon / poster things.
To me it more interesting that a same person can make both than the fact that someone can like both...

I don't think it has any influence on music choice either.

Hi. Who did the Perspex box for the black gold piece? And have you had it hanging on the wall? I ask because your oil has not dripped. Mine is still vertical. But I want to display it soon.

The tyre track canvas would have been cool, but I definitely have my tyre quota from the other year ( I've 2m of print, and a tyre, as well as gloves, jacket and paper mache cast ). Yeah went a bit mad that year.

Art Car Boot Fair, by thisisit on Jun 14, 2016 22:38:30 GMT 1, I think they are perfect. Definitely will be on display! Hi. Who did the Perspex box for the black gold piece? And have you had it hanging on the wall? I ask because your oil has not dripped. Mine is still vertical. But I want to display it soon. I made the Perspex box, (the least i can do with 5 years of architecture degree...) and i will be making 2 more this or next week, There was a problem with the laserrcutter the day i was cutting, and there are some minor errors that cant be seen in the pictures that i want to replace.
The canvas is floating and just squashed in the sides, so once you decide to break the perspex, its free... Mine does not drip as i got one with not a lot of petrol on it.
If you want I can do one for you for 110£ total (only the material costs 60£ since its 3 large perspex pieces to make this.) I did get a quote from perspex framers for around 300£ for this job.... thats why i decided to do it myself.. it looks really good, better that the gavin turk frame they had there on sunday
the edges are so visible due to the error in cutting,,,

Art Car Boot Fair, by .dappy on Jun 26, 2016 19:48:50 GMT 1, ... I bought two things at the ACBF 2016
... one of them was a James Cauty ADP - PC Conehead ... I've been debating to buy one of the miniture jam jar figures/scenes for a while and missed out on a couple that I would have liked ... who could not resist a copper in a yellow hi-viz jacket with a traffice cone on his head while carrying a smiley face riot shield ... a classic!
... I have been after a piece by Susie Hamilton for a number of years! ... and always seem to miss out ... well ... there was a stall holder with a black folder and when I opened it up it contained a number of A5 size originals ... it was towards the end of the day, and I was able to take my time and had a good look through ... this piece was painted by Susie, in watercolour, when she visited Marrakech in 2013 and undertook the painting of what she saw on the streets themselves ...
... I am very happy with my purchases ... and another thank you to the person who gave me a little something extra
J 'Cauty classic
not everyone's cup of tea, but I'll have a large mug of it

Art Car Boot Fair, by darrenrapley on Jun 29, 2016 18:21:34 GMT 1, Might be good. Especially as I live 2 minutes away...
Supported by Vauxhall Motors and the Arts Council of England Saturday 16th July, 12-4pm, £3
Drawn by the sea, the light, the net lofts, rhapsodic bohemian sensibilities and the spirit of pirate smugglers - and thanks to the generous invitation of Jerwood Gallery - we will be gliding into Hastings town this July with the artworld’s most exuberant event. For one afternoon only!
Our art convoy will be making its way through the vibrant streets of cool cycle shops, designer beard trimmers and shops bursting with re-found classics to set up outside the oily lustre of Jerwood Gallery to bring an afternoon of unforgettable art and frivolity to The Stade. Car boots will be flung open, overflowing with local and London talents including an exciting new collaboration with Marcus Harvey whose exhibition opens that very day in Jerwood Gallery. Plus Hastings exclusive prints from Sir Peter Blake, Tracey Emin, Keith Coventry, Gavin Turk, plus a talking Chicken Town hand- print from John Cooper Clarke and just for the day hand painted album covers containing the latest vinyl release from Turner prize winning artist Martin Creed & band who will also be performing live as as part of an exciting and eclectic three hour cabaret from Cabaret Futura’s inimitable Richard Strange.
A myriad of random performances and happenings besides and fresh from a hands down success at our London event in June we’ll be continuing our 2016 ACBF theme of ‘The Hand’ with ever more clapping, spanking and ticklings of your cultural fancy. Something for everyone and plenty more besides!

Art Car Boot Fair, by met on Jun 30, 2016 10:18:22 GMT 1, A couple of queries. They'll probably come across as aggressive, arrogant and judgemental. But I'm okay with that, because the questions are also sincere: Are there graffiti fans who'd actually frame and hang on their wall a Tracey Em in heart poster with soppy, sentimental text such as "You loved me like a distant star"? If so, what kind of music do they listen to? I'm thinking power ballads by Bonnie Tyler or Whitney Houston, though I'm wary of making overly-hasty assumptions. I have three of these hearts currently hanging in the bedroom and would get this new one if I could get hold of one. I have no issues with this as it allows me to hang, Pure Evil, Eine and a Banksy in the rest of the house! I don't think it has any influence on music choice either. Thanks for the reply.
There are occasional begging requests here along the lines of, "Could a kind forum member please, please pick up a £50 Tracey Emin poster for me?"
I get the motivation in such instances, where the subtext may well be, "... so I can try to re-sell it to somebody else on the forum or eBay for £500 in a few weeks' time."
What's a bit confusing is hearing about this work being framed and hung by graffiti enthusiasts, even those with broad and eclectic taste. If instead it were by people who also collected Royal Family commemorative plates, or whose bedrooms were filled with teddybears, this would make more sense to me. It comes down to cultural sensibility, as with my earlier reference to power ballads.
Is the appeal of the work — photos of Emin's neon heart sculptures reproduced in poster format — mainly a knowing one and kitsch-based?
If not, then I'm at a loss in understanding. Because with irony removed from the equation, all that remains to my eyes is first-level mawkishness. In which case, one might as well display a Hallmark Valentine's Day card blown up in size. The only real difference would be the absence of Emin's signature. And presumably the artist's name isn't the sole attraction to these posters.
A couple of queries. They'll probably come across as aggressive, arrogant and judgemental. There are occasional begging requests here along the lines of, "Could a kind forum member please, please pick up a £50 Tracey Emin poster for me?" I get the motivation in such instances, where the subtext may well be, "... so I can try to re-sell it to somebody else on the forum or eBay for £500 in a few weeks' time."What's a bit confusing is hearing about this work being framed and hung by graffiti enthusiasts, even those with broad and eclectic taste. If instead it were by people who also collected Royal Family commemorative plates, or whose bedrooms were filled with teddybears, this would make more sense to me. It comes down to cultural sensibility, as with my earlier reference to power ballads. Is the appeal of the work — photos of Em in's neon heart sculptures reproduced in poster format — mainly a knowing one and kitsch-based? If not, then I'm at a loss in understanding. Because with irony removed from the equation, all that remains to my eyes is first-level mawkishness. In which case, one might as well display a Hallmark Valentine's Day card blown up in size. The only real difference would be the absence of Em in's signature. And presumably the artist's name isn't the sole attraction to these posters.

I understand the confusion however I am lucky enough that the other half likes most of the stuff I choose. We ended up with these when we went to an Art Car Boot Fair for myself and the missus came with me. She chose the Emin print just on appeal. She had no idea who Emin even was. I guess technically they are hers but I am happy enough as I say it allows me to pick works for the other walls in the house.
