I’m going to give this a miss this year , the whole advanced tickets thing has put me off. Along with the fact that it’s now £10 each to see what scraps have been left after the advance tickets people 🙁

I haven't been to art car boot fair before. I was going to attend this year, I will give it a miss.

I have only been once before and to be honest it was a complete bun fight.

I also have an advance ticket so will give it another try.

My technique is to pick a few artists you really want to see, if you can find pictures of the work they are selling before and the prices then you have a better idea what to look at and what you want to spend. For example I see polly Morgan (who I like) is selling a sculpture for 800, I'm not looking to spend that much on the day so can pass on that.

I will also be avoiding Peter Blake, Pure Evil, Ben Eine to name a few, they will all be really busy and knocking out the same crap as every year. The pure evil melania print is an easy pass.

So, a few artists I'm specifically interested in and hopefully I'll discover a bunch of less popular/well known artists along the way, and leave with some fairly affordable art.

I wouldn't describe it as a 'scrum'.  It's busy and for some of the more popular artists it may be hard to get served but it's fairly laidback generally.  (In the old days, Tracey Emin used to have a queueing system and a big burly security guard keeping everybody in check!)
You have the right attitude though.  Just go along and enjoy browsing.  Some of the artists are very approachable and chatty and there is no pressure to buy if you don't want to.  But it helps if you check instagram and Facebook pages beforehand to try and find out what the different artists are going to be selling and the prices etc.  The Facebook ACBF page is useful.
As long as the weather is good, I'm sure you'll have a great time.  Everybody does.

Thanks everyone for the replies and tips. I reckon there are 5-8 artists I'm really interested in, so will check out Facebook to see what they're releasing, visit them first, then just have a mooch about and see what catches my eye. 

Go with an open mind.  Look out for new stuff that you find interesting.  People bought Damien Hirst paintings for 50 pounds at the ACBF when he was a complete unknown.   

Advances Tickets are non transferable as ID matching the persons name on the ticket have to also be presented, oh well looks like either I am going or not!!

To be honest I think this advance ticket thing is a bit of a joke.  They sold 1,000 advance tickets so you will still have to simply join the queue.  It opens at 12 noon for advance ticket holders and then once they are all in, the rest of us can get in too.  They are, however, exchanging tickets from 11am for wristbands so, when 12 noon arrives, people should all get in very quickly.
