Art Car Boot Fair, by Deleted on Aug 14, 2018 12:41:49 GMT 1, whats going on thread wise here? The first ACBF was started by Markiemark now he has started another? i dont understand..anyway v pleased to be invited this year and are planning something fun and interactive with v cheap screenprints by interesting talented artists..natch If you check, you will find I started one thread on the ACFB, that's all. Admittedly I did it without checking to see if anybody else had already started one. Apologies if this annoys you.

Contrary to what you have said, I have NOT started more than one thread on the ACBF. "top of the second page" is not a new thread.

Art Car Boot Fair, by Deleted on Sept 11, 2018 9:11:25 GMT 1, I'm going to ACBF for the first time this year (bought an advance ticket) and wondered if there are any tips on how it works? I'm not after anything specific, though there are a few artists I definitely want to check out.
Is it just a scrum to the most famous people as soon as it opens? Is there still lots to see even if you're not buying, i.e. is every stall only things for sale, or are works just exhibited too?
Like I say, don't have my heart set on anything in particular, so if I come away with nothing, that's fine. Just interested in what to expect.

Art Car Boot Fair, by Schrödinger's Chat on Sept 11, 2018 9:57:50 GMT 1, I have only been once before and to be honest it was a complete bun fight.
I also have an advance ticket so will give it another try.
My technique is to pick a few artists you really want to see, if you can find pictures of the work they are selling before and the prices then you have a better idea what to look at and what you want to spend. For example I see polly Morgan (who I like) is selling a sculpture for 800, I'm not looking to spend that much on the day so can pass on that.
I will also be avoiding Peter Blake, Pure Evil, Ben Eine to name a few, they will all be really busy and knocking out the same crap as every year. The pure evil melania print is an easy pass.
So, a few artists I'm specifically interested in and hopefully I'll discover a bunch of less popular/well known artists along the way, and leave with some fairly affordable art.

Like I say, don't have my heart set on anything in particular, so if I come away with nothing, that's fine. Just interested in what to expect. I wouldn't describe it as a 'scrum'. It's busy and for some of the more popular artists it may be hard to get served but it's fairly laidback generally. (In the old days, Tracey Emin used to have a queueing system and a big burly security guard keeping everybody in check!) You have the right attitude though. Just go along and enjoy browsing. Some of the artists are very approachable and chatty and there is no pressure to buy if you don't want to. But it helps if you check instagram and Facebook pages beforehand to try and find out what the different artists are going to be selling and the prices etc. The Facebook ACBF page is useful. As long as the weather is good, I'm sure you'll have a great time. Everybody does. Good luck.

I've already spent way more than I should have this month, so if I see a piece I like for £50 then all the better.

To be honest I think this advance ticket thing is a bit of a joke. They sold 1,000 advance tickets so you will still have to simply join the queue. It opens at 12 noon for advance ticket holders and then once they are all in, the rest of us can get in too. They are, however, exchanging tickets from 11am for wristbands so, when 12 noon arrives, people should all get in very quickly.

Last year I took the view that I wasn’t interested in any bun fight, or trying to buy what others wanted. So I turned up in the afternoon. Had a smashing time as a result. Mostly pottered. Bought some nice things, the best of which was a Rachel Howard drawing, and a superb one to boot. Chatted to artists. Atmosphere was chilled, as the afternoon passed.

Art Car Boot Fair, by Dibbs 45 on Sept 11, 2018 22:47:54 GMT 1, Been a few years now and the worst part is that’s pricing has gone crazy. It’s not cheap anymore unless you want a PE or a lesser known artist. The peter Blake’s haven’t been great for a few years. You need £500-£1000 if you want something by a prominent artist.
However it’s a good day out and you may pick something unexpectedly cool by someone new. Depends what you want. I’m not sure people will be queuing all night this time as there’s no great grab to be had. I will be going but no queuing all night like usual.
