Gallery reputation and import process, by amputeerich on May 23, 2021 8:55:03 GMT 1, Good morning,
Great to finally be part of the community.
Im hoping to purchase an original piece of art from street art place Gallery in Italy and was wondering if anyone had any previous dealings with them. Are they reputable and what was your experience like? The piece in question is framed with museum glass, has anyone ordered a framed item from the EU to the UK and how was your experience of shipping? Did it arrive intact? Is there anyone you would recommend for shipping?
Secondly, the gallery manager doesn’t fill me with confidence when it comes to additional charges at this end, is there anything I can advice him on the process for VAT etc with regards to codes? If I got landed with a 20% charge it would make it unaffordable and would put me in a bad position but the 5% that it should be would be palatable.
Thanks for your time and I look forward to the replies.
Rich

I bought several pieces from Davide. Nice guy and easy to deal with. I bought also framed ones, but small. Always arrived safe. The price is a different thing and you have to be clear about everything.

Do a search on here for the thread about Tarif Codes... marking it correctly could help... But chances are you’ll be charged 20% anyway and have to claim it back.

Gallery reputation and import process, by danny2400 on May 23, 2021 11:03:03 GMT 1, Just reiterating at this point, few purchases from SAP, all good, few queries, all dealt with, would recommended. Your going to have have to accept paying the 20% up front & claiming the difference back down to 5%. I don’t know of it working for anyone, any other way...
You can’t fault the gallery for not knowing each country’s import fees & processes when the people doing the delivering clearly don’t!!

Gallery reputation and import process, by amputeerich on May 23, 2021 13:40:43 GMT 1, Excellent advice and it surely fills me with enough confidence to move forward. For those with experience, is claiming the 15% duties back fairly straightforward or quite laborious?
There was a suggestion put to me to insure the consignment for less and therefore pay less duties but my biggest fear is the glass smashing and damaging the canvas. This could be playing with fire but people have contacted me directly to say everything they’ve ordered from SAP has arrived on time and as described (with the exception of the chap in the link above.
The other question which some of you may be able to help with is one of payment. Is there a low fee option for buyers in the UK to pay with euros? I’ve looked at PayPal and their rate is not particularly competitive and then there’s fees on top...

Easy. Form BOR286 if delivered by Royal Mail or Parcelforce. Form C285 for any other couriers.

Gallery reputation and import process, by danny2400 on May 23, 2021 18:23:11 GMT 1, Bit of too & fro with courier via email. Last time took me 3 weeks to get refund. Less aggravation than devaluing an item for the sake of less up-front fees, & worrying about the postman playing football with it all the way from Italy..

Has anyone actually received a COA like this from Street Art Place or are we just going on a post from GP?

I’ve not bought from them to be able to comment. I did try and buy something but the website kept glitching and I ended up with a huge number of preauthorisation charges which prompted a fraud check from my bank. I gave up in the end.

Street Art Place has issued COAs of this kind for official releases through their own gallery (e.g. Kunstrasen).
In my opinion, it‘s a question about the definition/interpretation of a COA. I guess, GP takes the view that only they as the publishing print house are eligible to issue a COA for prints of their own releases. However, one could also argue, any reliable expert (in this case SAP) who can proof the authentity of an artwork based on material, signature, and provenience is legitimate to issue COAs. I mean, this is certainly the way for artworks of artists who are not alive anymore… But to be honest, it‘s certainly unfortunate that they made all these spelling mistakes…

I don’t know this Gallery, But if the print is an authentic one, what’s the problem ? When you look the print it’s look authentic with the GP stamp, They have so many Gallery that make they own COA when they resale, the problem is it because they Flip/ Resale ? And they don’t pay the « « Artist Resale Royalty Rights »

Gallery reputation and import process, by tab1 on Jun 17, 2021 23:38:08 GMT 1, Must be a vault sale coming up, knock out the competition to direct sales to the vault sales It’s embossed, a few checks could find the original owner, pictures and details to the printshop should issue a coa again ? Not at pest control levels yet and no known fake gp prints yet to the market with the embossed stamps although there is a shop in China making fake gp products without stamps

I think here the issues are others, above all "exclusivity" of an artist. What works you said were sold as secondary from GP with their own COA? Just those Dolks?
There used to be whole page section of various other artist of secondary market prints seperate to release page , beejoir, mau mau before he represented them, these only stick out as I used to collect these artists Around 2015 and prior by this thread

To be technical this outfit just states the authenticity of the print on their coa they do not imply they made it, there by just confirming it’s a genuine product
Gp coa states graffiti products genuine product on the certificate there by implying and stating they made the print

Come on. No. That's not okay.
Option to whinge and bitch here on an art forum or if feel so strongly about the issue contact the gallery and state your opinions and support gp on his social media posts ? Gp should not have vip lists or selling aps or pps discreetly then this event would not happen ?

Gallery reputation and import process, by tab1 on Jun 18, 2021 18:25:55 GMT 1, How were these prints released if no one was supposed to get them, and how do they always get gp prints as stated , That’s the problem that can occur when print shops conduct special sales to vip clients and do no release as a whole to the general public. Comparing gp prints to Banksy is a bit far fetched I would say more on par with Picasso authorization body ?
