hardly a paid marketing deal when they're all invested in it is it? It's just part of their business

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by cizza19 on Jul 20, 2021 10:54:36 GMT 1, think you've missed the whole choosing an NFT or Original art part No, its just they will likely want to rinse the exchange fees on their website for a long while. Everytime one is bought or sold they will get a cut. It says 27th July but thats just to decide. Does not mean you will get it then - but maybe thats how i am reading it having used NFT exchanges. It would not surprise me if there was some sort of ETH gas fee to destroy / convert the NFT as well That doesn't stop anyone here being anti NFT though.... majority have indicated they're in it for the art...

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by rockbeer on Jul 20, 2021 13:16:34 GMT 1, I appreciate your point of view on these items i like ( real estate and art) For whats its worth, If you offered me a original @ a said price, and I liked it. I would either buy it or not pending its something i could afford. I dont think I would be looking @ it is if had or would hold value.
I htink you are kind of confirming my point - you would base the value you placed on my hypothetical artwork on its aesthetic appeal rather than its rarity/scarcity.
As a seller, I would have to accept whatever valuation you decided to place on it, because no further demand would exist to force the price up.
yes, land is all around us, But there is only so much land that alot of people want, such As california beach side land.
That's pretty much exactly what I said. An item's rarity/scarcity value is determined essentially by demand. Lots of people want California beachfront so it's expensive. Not so many people want wild land in Minnesota so it's cheap.
if demand outweighs supply then the items ( land or art) becomes more rare? Exactly. Or more scarce, strictly speaking. Something can be rare or otherwise due to its inherent qualities. Huge flawless diamonds are vanishingly rare. Whereas scarcity is often a reflection of the level of demand. Desirable land is not rare but its scarce. The two terms are often used interchangeably, but they shouldn't be.
Picasso would be 100X more popular if the internet was around during his time
Very likely, but there would still be just(!) the 50,000 works. I mention Picasso because he's known for having been exceptionally prolific.
you may not be wrong with your next year prediction. But I for one genuinely like the pieces as well as the project as a whole.I am hoping to support it. What are your predictions on how many will be kept recorded on the Blockchain ( nfts) and how many will be kept as Physical Pcs?
I like it too, and obviously there are better reasons to buy art than the possibility of making a profit. I'm in two minds. On the one hand, $2,000 isn't a lot for a Hirst original. On the other, it seems quite expensive when you consider there are up to 10,000 of them.
I feel quite cautious about predicting the NFT/physical split. If opinions on here are anything to go by, most people want the physical art โย but it's hard to know how representative this forum is, and Hirst/Heni are doing a lot to encourage digitally-focused types to get involved.
That said, my hunch is that for all the recent hype around NFTs, most people still live in actual homes with real, solid walls and would still prefer to see their rare signed Damien Hirst art hung in a frame on the wall rather than flashed up on a screen.
In my view, for what it's worth, a physical object conveys a far stronger and more immediate sense of its uniqueness than a chunk of computer code does. You might know intellectually that the code confers uniqueness, but that's not the same thing as being able to actually see the unique character of the paint and the handwriting of the signature. But then, I'm old school, so I'd be a little bit surprised if most NFTs weren't exchanged for actual art โ but the world is changing, so not that surprised.
What do you think the split will be?

Having lurked on the Discord, there seems to be a LOT of people who would not consider trading their NFT for a paper copy. There is talk of organising virtual group โexhibitionsโ of the NFTs in the future. I find it hard to get my head round. For what itโs worth I would definitely prefer a physical copy to hang on my wall. I value the texture of the paint and being able to interact in the real world with the art. Suspect this may be a generational thing.
I think at least a third will keep the NFT, perhaps more depending on how much being a previous NFT purchaser increases your chances in the lottery.
I wonder what DH will do with the 1000 he plans to keep?
I see that DH is doing a live Q&A on the Discord between 19:00 and 19:30 UK time this evening just in case anyone is interested.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by laughn0w on Jul 20, 2021 16:52:21 GMT 1, I would be keeping the print so for me it comes down to whether I think $2k + vat is a fair price an original Hirst with a classic subject matter. But with likely a massive edition size of at least 5,000. Maybe even a lot more. And that I possibly need to wait a year to receive it. I havenโt decided yet

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by vvk on Jul 20, 2021 23:24:00 GMT 1, What do you think the split will be? i've gone back and forth in mind all week, yes if we guagew whats going on here on this forum i belive the total will be about 80% physical and 20 %digital. However there are alot of Crypto guys and gals that have made a-lot of money in that space and believe that NFTs will be More valuable. I say valuable becuase I Cannot imagine that looking at the NFT on your screen will be nice then looking at the physical on your wall. ( but again, its probally because I dont understand it) 2K is nothing when you originally bought 1 eth for $42.00 and now worth 1.7K so why not throw it to the wind and see how it goes. Hell if enough people end up beliving that these NFTS art actual art, then they will be right? I mean its happened with paper money and alot of other things.
Its a great time to be alive.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Ravnur 2020 on Jul 20, 2021 23:43:35 GMT 1, I like your post vvk :-) I think NFT's are only a format and they can just as well be art as something on paper or canvas is art. Conversely they might not be art as well as something on paper or canvas is not necessarily art. To me it is all about the idea and thought that goes into the work in the first place. I signed up for this drop and hope to get lucky. If I get lucky I will definitely exchange my NFT for a "hardcopy". To me the enjoyment of the work on the wall far outweighs the possible value of the NFT in my crypto wallet.

check these out. a simple test swap ( did not push it through) from WETH ( wrapped etherium) to USDT tether. gas fees are under 10.00 US even if i upped this to 2K worth of WETH it would still be less then 100.00 us. and this is for a swap.. sending you NFT / currency should be much less then this beaucse your not asking for a swap. your just sending.

Its a fee for the miners to process the transaction and if they are busy it will cost more. Unless heni add a fee ontop (possible as its something nifty exchange do).
The gas fee will be under $100 plus a possible fee for heni (which would be an admin fee i guess)

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Pawel on Jul 21, 2021 13:34:39 GMT 1, Happy to spend ยฃ1500....but then not for an extra ยฃ800 (not that there is that kind of fee on top as FR pointed out).....for a Hirst painting. This forum baffles me sometimes. I'm happy to spend ยฃ1500 but then not happy to spend an extra ยฃ800 on some BS fee. Burning the NFT is usually just sending it to an unaccessible addreess. It's a normal normal transaction, nothing fancy.
It's over 50% of the price of the NFT, so I don't think it's unreasonable to say it might impact the purchase. decision.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Fะฏ on Jul 21, 2021 13:35:14 GMT 1, the issue might come when those wanting to trade for the real copy have to pay the gas fee in BTC or eth
that means having to register with exchanges and buy it / transfer to your metawallet
those not used to this might trip over
