Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Inknart on Jul 24, 2021 16:29:33 GMT 1, I’m the very happy owner of #2937 and while I wish that I could keep it as an NFT, the allure of an original Hirst hanging on the wall will probably be too great. We will see. One thing that I find curious is that the vast majority of publicity for “The Currency” has taken place or been released after the initial application period. If you didn’t already follow the artist, or if you weren’t already a member of an art forum, or if you weren’t active in the world of NFT’s, you would only be finding out about the project now. For most people, the only opportunity to secure 1 of the 10,000 would be on the secondary market. Now if I’m the Hirst/Heni team fresh after filling up their crypto wallets from “The Virtues” release, I would be continuing to build up “The Currency” release hype all the while being ready to manipulate the market in an upward trajectory as soon as the NFT’s enter the wild. Hirst is holding 1000 NFT’s which would only appreciate in value and he stands to generate a commission from each future digital sale. If each NFT is worth a small fortune, it also only serves to add to his legacy and legendary status. I can’t wait to see how it all plays out. It just depends, I think it will have a lot to do with overall conversion rates of each.
With that being said, I still look at something like a Banksy Tenner. I would find it hard to believe these wouldn't appreciate at some point as they are indeed originals, signed, numbered, all with unique names.
Then again, we all know Hirst LOVES money. His head is probably spinning right with the idea of cranking out another 10k each yr for a quick 20M. He could do 5000 Cherry Blossom Originals and raise the price to 4k and yield the same profit. Replicate this across all his works and he could become the first blue chip artist to sell originals on what could be considered a commercial scale. The Murakami of originals.

It’s also nice to have a release where no one can moan about the imperfections of screen printing.

Of course he could have so many different future plans, but what I’m proposing is that it wouldn’t take a whole lot to manipulate the secondary market, especially if they played with the crypto that they generated from the last sale. It seems like the BTC price is constantly being manipulated by major players, and there’s a supply of just under 19M. I don’t think it would take much to move this market of Current NFT’s. Just a silly thought.

For sure, but it has remained in high gear after the release had already been basically sold out.

But the fact they all look very similar doesn't really matter. It's the whole project that's interesting, not any individual painting.
And why does number matter that much anyway? Is something only worth having if not many other people have it? Why? How few would there have to be to make one worth owning?
Damien Hirst has produced over 1,000 spot paintings, which all look broadly the same. They have sold for millions. Why?
See, these questions are largely the point of this project and by trying to piss on it you're actually engaging with it.

You only have 2 months to decide though, have to pick one or the other after 2 months. Hirst will only announce what the split is after everyone has decided I imagine. Then you could find yourself with 1/100 NFTs going for silly money or the opposite.

No that’s not right. The exchange period opens after two months, it closes at 12 months. You have the whole time to decide

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by jr10 on Jul 24, 2021 17:58:28 GMT 1, A lot of winners here — and am thrilled with mine: 'Prejudice still reverberates' currency.nft.heni.com/item/8200
If anyone might know the background to the title, please PM!
As many have already noted, the characteristics don't count for anything (yet) but it's another element of intrigue to this project as a whole, and the more I compare and contrast with other #s the differences/particulars become more obvious. I will likely opt for the original at the first opportunity but who knows how often I'll sway opinion until then!

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Deleted on Jul 24, 2021 18:20:01 GMT 1, I'm still not sure I understand this ratings thing. I have scored around 9,000 on density and texture (Woo-Hoo!) but only 3,000 on weight (D'oh!). I thought the added texture would mean it weighs more. Think the weight is most likely down to paper size

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Horatio Nelson on Jul 24, 2021 18:23:08 GMT 1, Somewhat depressingly I just realised that I have spent more time today staring closely at the heni.com image of my painting (number undisclosed for now) than I have spent staring at any of the dozen plus artworks I have at home up on the wall / mantelpiece in recent times.
It’s fascinating to see the paint drips and paper at a multiple zoom level, as well as these so-called particularities, but it would be a shame if all art viewing shifted onto a digital display and/or had value determined by a random set of parameters. I hope that isn’t the future of art/collecting.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Smokeidaeye on Jul 24, 2021 18:25:31 GMT 1, I'm still not sure I understand this ratings thing. I have scored around 9,000 on density and texture (Woo-Hoo!) but only 3,000 on weight (D'oh!). I thought the added texture would mean it weighs more. So, there is no rarity scale for the Currency by Damien hirst because they are ALL rare, as 1/1 paintings. He could have done 1, 3, 6, 100 or like in this case 10000 but they are all rare and individual. They surely look similar, but they have "particularities". That's why Heni has created some categories, or ranges, or spectrums where you can see where your painting stand. Heni has also given us a spreadsheet so that's great because if you have data, you can measure and rank. Therefore there is no benchmark, as people might like it more or less of a certain category. Eg. People like it more dense or less dense, or just the average! So, that's why I set myself a 1% benchmark on top and bottom of each spectrum. So, if your painting is in the top 1% of "density", surely it can be considered more "particular" than others. Or the opposite, in the low 1% density. same thing. If a painting enters more than one of these 1%s, it can ge globally considered as "More particular than others". These categories also include Tags. Only 621 paintings have been tagged. SO, the max a painting has scored in my algorithm is 7/28 categories. And you can check yourself what that means. Check numbers 8110 or 9092. They are the only two 7s. I hope it's clear? There is no "best or worse" as it's all relative by individual's taste! Just numerically "more particular" I didn't realize there were only 621 tags. Mine has a "friendship" tag -- #4935 "I Want You To Be My Friend".
I'm still not sure I understand this ratings thing.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Deleted on Jul 24, 2021 18:27:54 GMT 1, Got mine yesterday "Ice Cream and Kiss You" , and the wife just had an email. Does anyone know if she can use my metamask account or needs to set up her own?
I’ve just asked a similar question - I am trying to help my father-in-law out and had hoped I could use my wallet but have been told on Discord that the recommendation is to use separate wallets.

How long was it after purchase until it ended up in the wallet?
I can only see the image and the title when I look via login in on the website at the moment.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Pawel on Jul 24, 2021 18:35:28 GMT 1, Hard to hold out hope for an email when it looks like Heni's already opened up the floodgates. Though I guess if there really are thousands of them going out, the tens/hundreds already received and announced here are only a small drop of it. All the same, nothing for me yet. Don't give up yet. I'm sure I read that there will be another round of e-mails on Monday.
Is don't want to that person, but seeing how many people scored today I'd assume that all go the reminding 7k works have been allocated. The Monday round will be only for works that hadn't been paid for.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Smokeidaeye on Jul 24, 2021 18:35:44 GMT 1, I think weight would be one category that you'd not want to score crazy high since that is mainly the weight of the homemade paper. So a high score would mean thinner paper which means more bleed through, possibly obscuring the title and signature. Though if it is framed no one is seeing the back...

I said the same thing earlier, it doesn't make sense. Also, I checked with the magnifier a low ranked drips compared to a high ranked drips and there was hardly any difference. In fact, it looked like the lower ranked had more drips than the low. I think they used a commodore 64 for these rankings🤣
