Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Horatio Nelson on Jul 24, 2021 22:12:35 GMT 1, The colour rarity scheme is not quite what it sounds like on the tin. One would assume it works on a dot basis (i.e. how many dots of yellow/yellowish paint have been dropped onto the canvas), but it is really based on individual pixels that make up the photo of the artwork. So in theory, one could have a very high yellow score if the image/artwork contains a significant amount of orange and green paint yet not a single drop of yellow paint. I also doubt the white balance on the camera equipment is perfect, meaning that even the white of the paper could appear different shades of white/cream across different images (and therefore have different amounts of yellow pixels even for those blank areas where the is no paint applied). For that reason, I personally attach little value to these colour particularities, especially if you plan on keeping the original artwork and burning the NFT. Find it very funny that the stats are much more relevant if you're keeping the NFT, because perceived rarity is more important in that market, but many of the stats become meaningless when applied to a digital artwork. For example, an NFT cannot have weight or texture. The more I think about this project the more I like it. The conversations it's started already are so interesting and sometimes completely mad.
It gets stranger, potentially.
My artwork has pretty average rarity scores across the board (i.e. 4,000s to 6,000s in most categories), so I imagine not as exciting/valuable as others might be to NFT collectors for the reasons you say. But what if, for that same reason, these more generic, less “rare” NFTs are all swapped for the original works leaving the (vast?) majority of NFTs in circulation as having one or several high/rare scores, on the premise that the works without the high/extreme scores will be less valuable as NFTs. Following that through, this could end up meaning that any artworks with predominantly average rarity scores that remain as NFTs end up being more rare (i.e. more hard to come by) within the pool of NFTs.
I’m interested to know if there will be any live, granular data on what NFTs are converted to artworks (or artworks burned) as the year progresses, so that we can start to see trends during the ten month exchange window.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by artnow on Jul 24, 2021 22:15:14 GMT 1, Love the mat color idea. I'm going to see if there is a way to make the back visible so the name and signature are still visible but that may mean I can't float mount it with a mat in the background. Another option is to print out a photo of the back and have it attached to the back of the frame. It allows for more framing options.
Pour resin over the whole thing, 2 inches all around. Boom! Preserved for life....handle with as much or as little care as you like

You mean £5k as an appreciation of your token?

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Charlie Bronson on Jul 24, 2021 22:37:59 GMT 1, Framing options of mine... It's great to pick different mat colors based on the % of your colours in the painting. Also it's all personal. I remember fighting with my eyes and heart when I see the different framing options of Shag prints... it really bring up different tones and colors!!
Interesting. I’m going with a thick, high gloss white frame, foated with archival corners and a white mat to make the colors pop.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by My Name is Frank on Jul 24, 2021 22:40:24 GMT 1, It’s very simple. If you wanted a Hirst on the wall, this is your opportunity. If you wanted a Hirst investment, let the paper burn! The NFT is a moveable asset, it probably values out more than the original.
Want the art? Wall it
Want the investment? Store it

You've sort of answered your own question. It is possible I've done it myself, recently with a Peckham rock postcard. You can float mount it, but you have a non visible window cut out of the acid free card which it is float mounted onto.
Then you have glass on the reverse (either specific to the window, or same frame size as the front glass) a window cut out of backing board. Bob's your uncle you have your signature and name of art work visible but is also stable and safe ... perhaps not Bob but you get my drift.

Rarities, in this case, doesn’t mean “rare” or more valuable. It’s just where the piece is ranked for each category within the 10,000.

It's debatable if the ranking will affect the value of the piece. I can easily imaging one with high ranking being uglier than one with lower marks, but who knows? People are used to such rankings and normally the higher the better. Plus its a very easily way to compare these.

I couldn’t imagine anything other than White on White in some form. Anything else would be too much for me. The art is more than enough colour imo.

Read what it says. The number 7 means that there are only 6 with less yellow than the one you got assigned, not that there are 7 yellow spots.

Don't worry. NFTs are not make for the walls. They are stored on the blockchain. You can tell the art police that you sold it and your NFT will be safe there. There will be no delivery from Heni, so you're 100% covered.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by storm breaker on Jul 25, 2021 0:25:30 GMT 1, Would float it. Make a virtue of the uneven edges. I'd always frame an original so you see the whole piece. But as long as you use a really good framer then there shouldn't be any 'risk', however you want it framed. I intend to float mine, just as was said above. Key point worth emphasising, given you haven’t framed anything before is using a really good framer who understands the value of the piece and treats it accordingly, meaning the painting can be removed from its framing without damaging it ie archivally framed incase you wish to reframe or sell it. 2c. Edit Sorry just saw it’s not your first framing experience 🙃
I bet you regret flipping your Green Banksy Choose Your Weapon rather than framing it.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Charlie Bronson on Jul 25, 2021 0:27:52 GMT 1, Interesting. I’m going with a thick, high gloss white frame, foated with archival corners and a white mat to make the colors pop. I've never used archival corners on a piece, but I think for these it's a good call. I don't like seeing them, but you don't really want any adhesive used on the back at all.
Another approach would be archival corners on a Perspex/acrylic box type frame, to showcase the back.

Nah there’s hardly any noticeable difference, I can only really see the difference if there is say one painting with both very high greens and blues and one with both very low, that could just be my eyes though. Same to an extent with yellows and reds together, but if it’s just the one colour you’d have to have a good eye I reckon

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Deleted on Jul 25, 2021 6:20:50 GMT 1, Does anyone know from were the works are going to be shipped? The mods on the Discord said the pieces are in the UK, which is great news for UK buyers. Was worried that because the price is in dollars that they'd be coming from the US.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Slipped Crown on Jul 25, 2021 7:50:47 GMT 1, Framing options of mine... It's great to pick different mat colors based on the % of your colours in the painting. Also it's all personal. I remember fighting with my eyes and heart when I see the different framing options of Shag prints... it really bring up different tones and colors!!
The black frame and mat colour can be distracting but you do you. I think most people will be keeping it simple in white and let the spots take the attention
