Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Deleted on Jul 25, 2021 17:53:08 GMT 1, Man, the discord server, although full of helpful knowledge, has now turned into something resembling a financial advisor chat room. A lot of non-art loving “investors” looking to cash in. I mean, I get it to a degree; of course I’m interested in the financial aspect and this whole discussion is part of Hirst’s experiment, but it sounds like a bunch of stock broker types in there, spewing this and that about NFT’s. Kind of lame tbh. Yeah, it's pretty soulless reading, but by its nature this project is going to attract a mix of NFT evangelists and more 'traditional' art lovers. It's intriguing as well as dispiriting. An alien world.
What I've read has made me less interested in NFTs, not more. The chat about whether a piece will be worth more if it has a tag, a high rating for overlaps, or some other meaningless point of difference, is so uninteresting. It's just expensive Pokemon cards. But I do sort of enjoy that that's part of this project, the contrast between two worlds.
The NFT would have to be worth massive, life-changing amounts to make me value it more than having a Hirst on the wall. Long-term, the painting would bring me more pleasure than a minor cash windfall.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by put the kettle on on Jul 25, 2021 18:24:21 GMT 1, Ignored this initially so missed the boat but just seen the vid of Hirst with Fry. I think its brilliant and so Damien Hirst. Easy 20 million! Not sure how they will fare over time. Probably a bad investment overall but an enjoyable experience/experiment nonetheless.
This Sentence doesn't make much sense. I think you don't understand NFT and the art market.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Wearology on Jul 25, 2021 18:51:16 GMT 1, I have been dabbling with buying & selling and also collecting NFT Art the past few months and I quickly realized that typical art collectors are not buying NFT"S as much as individuals and institutions whose main focus is crypto currency and high financial plays. I just assumed because Christies, Sotheby's & Phillips were all over NFT Art that art people would follow but it is definitely not the case. The real action when it comes to NFT Art is happening on Nifty Gateway, Superrare and similar platforms. I would not be surprised if the auction houses will not be the preferred space all together in 3 - 5 years for artists to offer their works for sale to the secondary market.

According to the timeline the allocation ends on the 28th. With 48 hours to pay it seems likely tomorrow the final notifications will be sent

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by moron on Jul 25, 2021 19:55:46 GMT 1, This project/exercise does make one ponder about what currency really is and what has intrinsic value etc…. (Although an NFT is not itself any form of currency or even cryptocurrency from what I understand, so it’s a slight conflation between the two concepts by Hirst). Personally I don’t see the need to pay £2k to participate in the experiment, but it could get interesting further down the line. But who knows, Heni and elsewhere may ultimately accept these NFTs as tender for other (not NFT) works by Hirst.
One things about Hirst, whatever concept he comes up with it's guaranteed to have been done before.
J S G Boggs started drawing money in 1984 and out of curiosity tried out going to shops with one of his hand drawn dollar bills and exchanging goods in the shop for the same amount on his hand drawn dollar bill.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by moron on Jul 25, 2021 20:01:18 GMT 1, I'm still confused. 1. Has Damien Hirst really produced 10,000 originals? How long would that take you? 2. Has Damien Hirst really numbered, titled and signed 10,000 pieces of paper? How long would that take you? 3. Are Heni really going to keep 10,000 originals in their vault? How big is this 'vault' of theirs? 4. Are you really given the option of keeping the NFT or having the original artwork? If so, who in their right mind would choose a token rather than the real thing? That's like choosing an e-mail from Banksy or having a signed Banksy on the wall. None of this really adds up. 1 all done by assist ants
2 Titles probably by assit ants. Hirsts ego is big enough for him to have signed all of them but there again just like the governor of the Bank of England doe snot sign all of the bank notes then I doubt that Hirst signed these himself. You can ask him on his instagram.
3 I'm sure they have a big enough secure room etc to store these artworks
4 You buy the NFT first otherwise you cannot have an art work. Buy the NFT then after some months have passed, you have the option of exchanging your NFT for the physical artwork.
It's not meant to add up. It's Hirst making out he has discovered or created something new thats all
