Unfortunately, the email came after I spent $2K on a couple of prints the day before, thinking I had no chance to get a Hirst. I had reluctantly passed on The Virtues, but, like many, there's no way I can pass on an opportunity to have an original Hirst on the wall and I pulled the trigger with just a few hours left.
Mine is called "Big and Powerful"

At first, I was disappointed to see it rank so low in each of the characteristics. But after looking at the piece for a while, I quite like the fact it is less dense and has less overlap. I view it as there was more restraint and care taken in its creation, but that could just be me justifying the purchase in my head.
Hirst's rollout of prints/art during COVID has been interesting and quite brilliant from a money-making standpoint. First, he starts out with the Butterfly Rainbow and Butterfly Heart timed release, which I'm sure many had thought was their only opportunity to get a Hirst on their wall. Next, he came out with the Fruitful and Forever timed release, which was more desirable than the Butterflies. Then, he stepped it up with the Virtues timed release, which many had been waiting for an opportunity to buy a larger scale cherry blossom print. And now, he ups the game again, giving many an opportunity to buy an original. Each release is more desirable and more hyped than the previous. It makes you wonder what is coming next...

I guess there are no rules saying that the NFT has to remain in the original buyers name to be able to swap it for an original?

Keep the piece as an NFT and then display it on the wall using a 55 inch (or bigger) Samsung 4K The Frame TV, so it looks more like art than a TV. Maybe the best of best of both worlds? You keep the value speculation of the NFT AND you get to enjoy it on the wall in a much bigger format. |
