Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Terry Fuckwitt on Jul 26, 2021 14:30:26 GMT 1, Any guestimates as to the final numbers on these? 9000 in circulation. Perhaps 1000-2000 not claimed so destroyed: I'd guess: Physical - 5000ish NFT - 2000ish Thoughts?? None will get destroyed, they go back into the allocation process or if no demand (seems unlikely) Damo will keep. Also; I think 5000 NFT, 4000 Physical
All unclaimed will be destroyed, both physical and NFT. Going by the amount of people that were lucky and never received an email, this could be a big number of them.

Firstly, what part is disinformation? It's clear I am making a prediction.
Secondly, I couldn't give a single fuck what you think.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Horatio Nelson on Jul 26, 2021 14:50:26 GMT 1, To all those who have been allocated one and have decided it’s a no-brainier to take the original rather than keep the NFT - have you reconciled yourselves to the fact that the NFT may nevertheless go up in value by several multiples more than the original?
This is how I’m feeling and it’s a weird dilemma. I much prefer having physical and original artwork framed and up on the wall over proprietary rights to some jpeg and would gladly keep the original even if the NFT ended being worth double. But the financial/economic side of my brain is telling me that at least for the next 0-3 years there is some stupid money sloshing around in crypto and NFTs meaning that you will probably see more idiotic (i.e. much higher) prices paid for the tokens than the originals - possibly 3 to 30 times where you would expect to see the physical artwork priced.

If you had the choice of an original from your favorite artist would you pick the image that you loved the most or the one worth more.

If you had the choice of an original from your favorite artist would you pick the image that you loved the most or the one worth more. It's a totally reasonable position, though. If the NFT were worth tens of thousands*, most people would at least consider keeping it over the painting. It doesn't mean you're more interested in profit than art. It just means you're a realist and probably not a millionaire.
Asking yourself the question of which is more important to you is the point of the project.
*I'm not saying it will be

You can simply download the Image if you want a digital copy, same as the NFT. You can have both, just not the Money that would go along with one or the other appreciating higher.

I’m with you on this.
I know I want the physical original Damien Hirst piece on my wall. But I also know with anything on my wall there’s a value of money that I’d prefer to have if it was offered.
I love my ‘Politeness’ more than the £7-8k I could get selling it, but could I say the same if it was 3, 4, 10 times that? (That’s not a price prediction, obviously, but feels like that needs spelling out). I don’t know.
I believe the NFT will be more valuable than the physical. But the interesting thing here is that if I’m right then the option to sell at a high price (the price I’d part with it at) won’t be available after I’ve hung it on the wall 🤯

This is an extreme but far from unique. If you REALLY wanted one you'd clearly apply multiple times using various email addresses.
This is the reason I believe that thousands may go unallocated. Don't shoot the messenger.
For transparency I got one and I will be keeping the physical. I have no interest in NFTs or Crypto.

To be fair, this project is called 'The Currency' and is very much about considering the value of both digital and physical items.
Update: whatsthestory beating me to it! 😂

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by yoss on Jul 26, 2021 15:19:31 GMT 1, I don’t get this forum sometimes…y’all have the chance to actually own a 1/1 piece of art from arguably one of the best artists in the last 50 years and y’all are yammering about a digital token SAYING that you own the actual physical piece of art. I’m just shaking my head. I wish I won. I’d love to have a Hirst on my wall. Not some damned electronic code in one of my flash drives.
All this talk about value but very few in what it would look like framed on your wall!!!!
Maybe it’s like saying you own apple stock and not a Mac laptop…but I still don’t get it.
I can’t wait to finally meet someone that says they own a Hirst NFT and that it is worth so much more than the actual art itself…thinking how much I’d like to backhand their “NFT-rich” asses…
Da Vinci is rolling over in his grave…

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Inknart on Jul 26, 2021 15:19:34 GMT 1, If it's about money, maybe this piece isn't for you? To even have that thought means you're more concerned about profit to begin with. If you had the choice of an original from your favorite artist would you pick the image that you loved the most or the one worth more. To be fair, this project is called 'The Currency' and is very much about considering the value of both digital and physical items. Update: whatsthestory beating me to it! 😂 I get it, maybe i'm just old now, but I would never buy something if i didn't intend on enjoying it.
Can you enjoy an NFT as much as the original is what i'm asking myself here. You have the ability to have both digital and original. I find it hard to believe you can enjoy the NFT solely alone however and to me that means it's only about money and not about the art at that point. Theres better investments potentially for 2k out there than an NFT of a Damien Hirst. He will no doubt release a million more.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by jimmyjam on Jul 26, 2021 15:20:20 GMT 1, Technology in display screens are getting very advanced and new types of displays will come out in the market. You might have screens that are almost as thin and feels like paper someday.
The NFT could be displayed larger someday on a very nice screen made for art. This of course is all speculation but the technology is coming.
www.google.com/amp/s/scitechdaily.com/new-electronic-paper-displays-brilliant-colors-with-minimum-energy-consumption/amp/
But then again an original on paper - never needs electricity to be displayed.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Deleted on Jul 26, 2021 15:21:00 GMT 1, He speculating, nothing wrong in that. If it did a 30x over time and you had one would you sell it? If i was even going for one, no it wouldn't be an option since i would never buy an NFT as I would want to hang and enjoy it everyday. You can simply download the Image if you want a digital copy, same as the NFT. You can have both, just not the Money that would go along with one or the other appreciating higher. But if you enter this then you have to buy an NFT. You have an NFT for at least two months. You can only decide to trade later. So you have to make the choice to ditch the NFT knowing its value. Whatever they're trading for after two months, you have to say you don't want that amount of money and want the painting.

They might find its worth 100x more as an NFT. that is the fun

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by whatsthestory on Jul 26, 2021 15:30:37 GMT 1, To be fair, this project is called 'The Currency' and is very much about considering the value of both digital and physical items. It's all well and good to say you would cherish the original but the simple fact is that everyone (probably) has their price.
I'm not saying the NFT price will get to 50k, but if it did I'd be happily selling it in a heartbeat to be honest. That is kind of the whole challenge from Hirst with this project, at what point is it interchangeable for cash for you.
