Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by orchid on Jul 26, 2021 21:18:17 GMT 1, Gutted that I’ve missed out on this. If by any chance anyone has a spare, I would be forever in your debt 😁
I wouldn't worry too much, there will be hundreds or thousands physicals being flipped in a few months and in the lead up to Christmas. And given the success of this project, and Hirst's greed, it won't be his last.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by dunkers on Jul 26, 2021 21:28:05 GMT 1, You already know exactly how Metamask works, as evidenced by your stupid seed phrase thread, which could have really screwed some people over, so what exactly is your point? I actually have no clue how it works, but I saw discussions on here about a seed phrase and did some googling while at a bar. Does anyone that uses metamask have the steps to transfer the NFT out of metamask since the user has to wait two months before being able to exchange for physical? I wouldn't be comfortable letting something sit in account that has no recovery option if something is moved and doesn't support any multifactor authentication.
This is actually a genuine point and the lack of 2FA together with being a hot wallet is exactly why I’ve purchased a ledger nano

I don't love it either, because I don't like trusting security of something valuable to something I don't really understand, but as long as you keep your seed phrase safe then I don't think you're in any wild security danger. Of course, there's the option to immediately opt for the painting on the 29th and burn the NFT if you don't want to be forced to hold an NFT for any time at all.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by zoomrider on Jul 26, 2021 21:45:36 GMT 1, Gutted not to get one of these. Even more so for not thinking of signing up with multiple emails to increase my chances during registration (as appears did many others)!
Have the last emails definitely been sent out? I understand the July 28th date for NFT distribution and the 48 hour time limit to pay so that would make sense but clinging to some hope I may still get one. But fading fast…
Genuine question, what happens to those who got an in email in this latest batch of emails but don’t pay?!

I had to do a fair bit of reading too.
The ledger also has its own password and seed phrase. So if you lose it, someone still cannot use the physical device without the passwords. If you lose it you can buy another ledger and use your seed phrase to restore your existing accounts to the new hardware
Your NFT is not stored in the ledger itself. The NFT is always on the blockchain regardless of whether you use metamask or ledger or any wallet. What your wallet does is hold your private key. the benefit of the ledger is that it is cold storage so the private key is always offline, whereas metamask being browser based is online which leaves it more vulnerable to phishing scams etc.
When you connect ledger to metamask you need to push buttons on the physical device to allow a transaction, which gives two factor authentication. With metamask alone a transaction can be done remotely by a hacker if they access your password
(I think that’s right! This is my first venture into crypto and nfts so quite the learning curve)

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Schrödinger's Chat on Jul 26, 2021 21:49:17 GMT 1, This is thought provoking. I never really thought of that. There will be tech like you describe, and if/when NFT’s catch on, companies will fill the void of consumers wanting to display their NFT art, in the best way possible, resembling a physical painting on a wall. Essentially the consumers of this NFT project will have a Hirst original that’s as large as the digital file will go before pixelating, which could be huge, compared to the small physical one. Fuck me, that really is something to think about. What if some currency owners will pay to have the giant NFT file beautifully printed at well regarded printers to a large scale, then trade in the NFT for the physical version and sell both together or keep one and sell the other? Could present a different paradigm of buying / selling options. I've not been feeling the NFT thing previously but this release does present an interesting experiment that feels kinda Banksy-esque. Wonder if Banksy will have a K Foundation style physical v digital NFT concept up his sleeve? Feels like a space he could release something cool. He's already printed fake money after all. Regarding Banksy, I think releasing an NFT, however tempting, would damage his integrity due to their environmental impact and would rather undermine some of his other works e.g.

DH destroys them.
So if Bob Ferret entered with 200 emails, was allocated 4 works and only wanted 1, by ignoring the other 3 within the 48 hours window, does that mean the three Bob didn't take are for the physical and digital bin?
That's mental

There are NFTs on environmental blockchains. Look at Tezos for example.

I wouldn't be comfortable letting something sit in account that has no recovery option if something is moved and doesn't support any multifactor authentication. The seed phrase is essentially multi factor authentication. You can't move anything without that. Only from 29th September earliest - no immediately.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by robo on Jul 26, 2021 21:58:03 GMT 1, For those asking about MetaMask and Ledger:
MetaMask stores your seed phrase on your computer in a folder. It’s reasonably safe but if someone hacks your computer they can steal your wallet’s contents by setting up a copy on their computer using your stolen seed phrase.
Ledger stores your seed phrase on paper only. It’s never entered into a computer (except it’s stored on the secure ledger hardware device). If someone hacks your computer they get nothing.
Hope that helps!

That’s not correct. Metamask doesn’t store your seed phrase on your computer. You’re told to write it down and store it somewhere. You could store it on your computer, which isn’t recommended, but it doesn’t store it for you.
All that said, I do envisage a number of people losing access to their NFT because most of us aren’t used to having to keep elaborate passwords in physical form.

Sorry to contradict you but on your computer is exactly where it stores it. If you want to check go into the MetaMask menus and select “view seed phrase”.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by dundun on Jul 26, 2021 22:39:13 GMT 1, There is at least one released with a misspelt title on the back of the artwork. Heni pointed it out, can’t remember which it was In the video with Stephen Fry, Damien mentions that some have 'little errors and mistakes, spelling mistakes' , and also they've noticed a couple have double 'microdots'. Stephen goes on to make the point, 'so like a stamp it could be worth more', and Damien tentatively agrees with the proposition. Oh wow. I just looked at the back of mine and it looks like it has two microdots! I can't believe the luck. I was already excited with how much texture and drips it had but this is extra nice. Love the title too.

Love the title too. currency.nft.heni.com/item/5505

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by robo on Jul 26, 2021 22:48:44 GMT 1, If people on this forum would actually check their facts before they bash out “that’s not correct” we’d all have a much more pleasant time. Second time it’s happened in 24 hours. I’m gonna stay polite though. Apologies
No worries!

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by jimmyjam on Jul 26, 2021 23:00:12 GMT 1, I'm guessing Heni is using either Phase One backs for Hasselblad's to photograph these and also their giclee prints. The photos on the site are very detailed and look great on a large screen. They are also compressed for the site so it's not even the largest photo files. I really wonder what type of file/nft you get.
Those new backs can shoot up to 150 MP or more:
photography.phaseone.com/xf-camera-system/
Commercial photographers use them for billboard ads and whatnot. The camera backs themselves are very, very expensive. It's about 50k USD for the camera/back. You kind of need one though in commercial photography.
If they used one of those cameras and give you a tiff file or large file you can blow these up HUGE with amazing detail. It depends on the file.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by ap0 on Jul 26, 2021 23:02:39 GMT 1, Is there any cost in moving the nft from metamask to ledger? Also is ledger considered the best for cold storage or are there other options? Sorry, it's my first nft...

Heni also pioneered stitching together multiple high resolution photographs for their digital prints. I don’t know if they used that technique here. Probably not as there were so many to photograph

Your ledger wallet can actually appear in the MetaMask app as an additional wallet. However there are gas fees associated with moving NFTs between wallet addresses. I personally like Ledger.

We "stitch" or use about 10 photos for one Vogue photo. We butcher the models. But the camera is usually a Phase one or Hasselblad. Always group photos are multiple photos in one and a single model photo can be comprised of a lot of photos.
