Damien Hirst NFT or Original , by cnrdvln on Jul 14, 2021 9:28:35 GMT 1, in my mind there will be two 'waves' of trading.
the initial NFT trading up to two months before the decision.
After the decisions are made, the ratio of NFT and Originals will have changed, again creating a new wave of value
very interesting stuff, and amazing to think you can get an original Hirst on the wall

Damien Hirst NFT or Original , by met on Jul 14, 2021 10:29:14 GMT 1,
While I'm not especially interested in the forum poll, thank you very much for uploading this Financial Times video.
Damien Hirst is someone who's consistently been worth listening to. His questions are just as thoughtful as his answers, which is something I always take note of. And he doesn't disappoint here.
An aspect revealed in the video is that, as with the artist's spot paintings, on any individual "currency", no two colours are the same.
For the benefit of those who aren't familiar with Hirst's interlocutor, Mark Carney is the former Governor of the Bank of Canada (2008โ2013) and former Governor of the Bank of England (2013โ2020).
__________
Video details added below, in case the above YouTube link is for whatever reason later taken down:
Damien Hirst and Mark Carney discuss the artistโs new hybrid NFT project โThe Currencyโ - uploaded by FT Reporter Clips on 13 July 2021

Damien Hirst NFT or Original , by PS on Jul 14, 2021 12:13:02 GMT 1, Thanks for posting. Mark Carney says some very interesting things as well as Damien Hirst. I was struck by Carney's comment that a ยฃ5 note is worth as much as a ยฃ50 note. It's just that society dictates that the ยฃ50 note is worth ten times as much. There's nothing about the ยฃ50 note that makes it intrinsically more valuable. I think he said that it costs as much.
As in it cost the same to produce a ยฃ5 note as it does a ยฃ50 note.

Damien Hirst NFT or Original , by nobokov on Jul 14, 2021 15:26:26 GMT 1, Does anyone actually like the painting image or are they keeping it because it's an "original Hirst?"
I suppose the art really isn't about the image in this experiment. The art is to test greed, psychology, the followers mentality and all that. Will there be such a demand for the NFT that the value of the crypto will be higher than the actual physical object that allegedly has value because it's original art, or will there be more demand for the object? It'll be an interesting experiment.

Damien Hirst NFT or Original , by Deleted on Jul 14, 2021 18:25:38 GMT 1, Seems a very easy choice. Would I like a Damien Hirst original for $2,000? Yes. Would I like an NFT for $2,000, or indeed at any price? No.
Respect him for doing something creative with NFTs. The first artist I've seen actually properly engage with the idea of them in an artistic way, rather than just crap out a terrible gif and hope it makes them rich.

We've all seen the lack of link between the value of physical work and NFTs.

We've all seen the lack of link between the value of physical work and NFTs. I'm pretty sure I would still want the original. The simple images are appealing enough that I'd like one on my wall, and I'm definitely shallow enough that I would just like knowing I had a signed Hirst. NFTs don't interest me and I'd feel little pleasure in knowing I had a valuable computer file.
If the NFT was worth a life-changing amount of money in that first year, e.g. enough to pay off my mortgage, then yes, would probably want the NFT and immediately sell it. I don't think I'd want to hold the NFT as a possible future investment, though. That's just not really my bag.
I love the project and the fact it makes you ask those questions. I think the concept itself is Hirst's most interesting work in a long, long time.

Damien Hirst NFT or Original , by My Name is Frank on Jul 15, 2021 8:36:54 GMT 1, Cant wait to win one, then create a block valued off the NFT that I can sell as Damien Hirst shit coins valued against the NFT. Hirstcoin, who wants to own a little bit of the currency?
In all seriousness, I think this is a fascinating project and really does focus on individuals and their perception of value. Love the algorithm section which creates rarities out of the group of 10000, so even within what appears an even split, some pieces will be coveted more. Get a good one (rarity 1 out of 10000) and the Hirstcoin could even become a reality.

Sorry, I don't get that. ย Why are some more rare than others? ย As they are all hand painted, each one is unique, even if they do all look the same. ย
If you look on the Heni gallery page you can filter the pieces by features. One example is the Titles which have themes so there are subsets within the 10k, this could attract those interested in collecting multiple copies? Also every piece has been individually weighed so some may covet and place more value on the heaviest or lightest. Likewise the piece with no.1 may been seen as more valuable etcโฆall down to the psychology of the buyers I guess.

I think crypto will have a big role int he future, and even NFTs too, but the current use of NFT is pure gimmick and wouldn't turn down an original piece for one
That said feels like most people feel the same so the NFTs will be much rarer

Wonder how many applications they will end up getting? Personally believe that NFT is a market for investing rather than the Art itself, prob easy way to stash and hold legit or illegitimate money.

Yes, but the nft isnt minted by the artist then. I think you should see it as Banksy shredding a girl with balloon, or some moron burning a Morons print...
