NFT Art , by That Print Guy on Sept 16, 2021 7:19:13 GMT 1, I burned a solid .3 the first mint I went for, I thought something was broken and I kept hitting the signature because I didn't see the transactions coming up in the list on my metamask. My gas wasn't high enough and none of the transactions resulted in a mint. Painful lesson to learn What price level would be ideal for the buyer that would drive them to buy a certain NFT and minimize gas fees and all that stuff? that's a big ball of wax and you don't quite have all the concepts involved down yet. NFT Art , by That Print Guy on Sept 16, 2021 7:23:56 GMT 1, So why hypothetically speaking, doesn't the power of the forum use it's collective power to hype a single nft project? The NFT creator could set the price at a certain point and the forum piles in and uses discord and IG to hype it to outerspace? It won't work. No "big whales" on this forum unfortunately. The Crypto/NFT community outnumbers the influence of active forum members by a significant multiplier. Power in numbers, and we don't have the man/woman/cis/bi-power ten people on the forum could buy 40 each of the cheapest listed on opensea in a particular collection and "sweep the floor" leaving only more expensive ones available for sale. Then you have to collude to list higher than the new floor and hope other holders don't come in and undercut you. The fact that the cheap ones were bought up in bulk starts momentum. I believe this is traditionally called pump and dump but it's happening en masse every day, a group of forum members could certainly try the same thing.

If I had been able to mint more than one at a time (site limited you), say 3, it would have cost .2 or so, i.e the gas doesn't rise in line with the qty you are minting.
Of course this will all depend on what gas is at the moment you're trying to do something.

Newb question: I’m reading about lots of buyers minting. I thought it was the artist that mints the artwork when they put it on the chain and it becomes an NFT. and then the users trade the nft. What’s the extra minting about?

That's what I've always accounted for. I wouldn't even try if you only had 0.1 in the wallet. You'd probably run out of gas.
I've had failed transactions before, it sucks.

NFT Art , by GMA on Sept 16, 2021 9:50:44 GMT 1, I've actually been looking into how to set up your own smart contract and mint your own NFT's. It's actually not as complicated as it sounds. The main thing is having a good idea for a project to start with and imo, adding some kind of benefit to having the NFT in the first place. Access to areas of a site, to gaming, passive income etc..
Creating the 10,000 is all done using code too. But you do need to create the layers. A lot of maths involved, which I'm shite at.

NFT Art , by GMA on Sept 16, 2021 10:25:03 GMT 1, One thing I would also advise, like with anything, don't get too caught up in the hype on discord servers. Of course before a drop everyone is going to be going ballistic about it and you can quite easily get swept up in that hype. I've seen with some projects, so much hype before hand, and then it drops, and it doesn't sell out as quick as they thought, or it does sell out but then the floor collapses. Some of the strong projects, of course, will rise. But just try to keep a level head. If the project has a strong road map, it may take time to pick up steam.

NFT Art , by rinz on Sept 16, 2021 11:16:34 GMT 1, I previously recommended Groupies. Let me put some more thoughts out:
It's a totally organically project. There have not been any hype about it before release, no marketing and there was only 2k in the discord. The drop was a dutch auction. Starting at around 2 eth and going down to 0.06. 10k pieces; mint when you want. As soon as it went to 0.06 it sold out instant - that was a surprise for many people. So someone had been eyeing them. So 10k sell out with out hype. Furthermore the buyers are the ones, you want to buy your project; Not the hypekids but big collectors. The Cryptopunk chat loved the project, and yesterday everyone was writing about it and sharing their Groupies in the Punk chat. The art is (imo) very, very good and very different from all the other pfp projects.
And looking at Nansen, you can see, that a lot of "notable buyers" bought into the project:

NFT Art , by nobokov on Sept 17, 2021 3:53:40 GMT 1, What price level would be ideal for the buyer that would drive them to buy a certain NFT and minimize gas fees and all that stuff? that's a big ball of wax and you don't quite have all the concepts involved down yet. Gas is what it costs you to do something on the ethereum network. If you're just sending ETH to another wallet it will vary, but if you're interacting with a smart contract (this is what happens when you mint an nft) and 10000 other people are trying to do the same thing you're doing, you're going to want to pay more gas to make sure your transaction gets processed faster than theirs. In my complaint I was trying to mint and then I tried to mint over and over, none of the transactions went through but they TRIED to go through (burning up to the maximum amount of gas I was willing to pay) and I ran out of gas while other people who paid more gas were successful and got the token (nft) they were trying to buy. They ended up paying 2-3x the mint cost in gas, while I just paid gas to fail. Lesson learned Hmmm interesting how it works. Thanks for explaining.

Except this is false.
Opesea you can offer with many different types of currency, not just eth.
Coinbase you can also convert, but I wouldn’t convert unless you have a purchase lined up as the fluctuations in eth have been great for the majority of owners. I mean just last week eth went up 1k…

This is the same as purchasing works from Mrs Banksy or the other several hacks. They will not hold any value, not because banksy doesn’t hold value, but because banksy hasnt setup shop in the nft market yet to create a baseline value.
We all know cryptopunks… but that doesn’t mean that CP knockoffs are not valuable! Here are a few that are quite successful
CP - eth floor 1k+
Dysto Punks - eth floor 6.1
opensea.io/collection/dystopunks-v2
Gan Punks - eth floor 0.35
opensea.io/collection/bastard-gan-punks-v2
Space Punks - eth floor 0.2
opensea.io/collection/space-punks-club
Only punks - eth floor 0.02
opensea.io/collection/onlypunksnft
The floor is the lowest available to others reading this. Each of the listed above have a lot of higher sales and can be seen in recent sales on opensea and other locations.
My issue about the rats posted above is that you can make these yourself and mint them for less than 0.08.

"This week, a top executive at OpenSea, the largest marketplace for crypto collectibles, was revealed to have profited by using insider information to buy NFTs in advance of his company publicly promoting them.
The platform’s head of product, Nate Chastain, used secret crypto wallets to purchase digital artworks before they were set to be featured on OpenSea’s home page—a form of promotion known to drive up the price of pieces. After the initial pop of interest, Chastain then sold the NFTs, funneling the earnings into a personal account."
