I would also not know if someone switched a diamond and diamond switching actually is a thing.

The thought has definitely occurred to me before, so you're not alone. I went with an extremely reputable framer who does high-end framing for wealthy private collectors (of which I am not, lol). I think he was interested to see a different aspect of "the scene" come through his doors. He's done quite a few for me... Cleon Peterson, Shepard Fairey, Invader...

Ok, during the shipping it's safer to send it in a tube to avoid folds etc... but I'm still not happy... even more so when they also write that picking up the print flat between two cartons is better. At this point I would have preferred to pay shipping and receive it flat, safely.

Totally agree with this. The ideal would have been: flat inside two cartons and the cartons inside a safe box.

With the tube, the risk to get your artwork damaged is close to zero.
With a flat box between 2 panels, it can move inside and get a damaged corner easily.
So if i was not in France i would have prefered the tube in any case.
You just have to flat it for a moment when it's delivered
I'm happy i got the chance to buy one, so flat or tube i don't really care
