How do you make deals with other users?, by Zero Hero 2 on Oct 19, 2021 12:28:33 GMT 1, Hi! Weclome... I got a couple of years in this forum but I have done bought a couple of things from this forum and always had a plesant experience.
I usually try to pay with paypal. Both as "friends" and / or "goods & services". If you uses "goods & services" you got protection. But note that there has been going on some kind of scam with that aswell. Which poses a risk for the seller.
A good and solid tip is to see if the seller/buyer is noted in this thread: urbanartassociation.com/thread/92153/good-dealings?page=36&scrollTo=2124619
and aswell note the good experience you have with others in there. Its not a full good bullet proof protection.... but I feel if its trust that goes around in the community.

How do you make deals with other users?, by eD on Oct 19, 2021 16:23:12 GMT 1, I have purchased from people on this forum and have had good experiences.
If you are buying a high value piece make sure you do some real world due diligence (facebook, insta, ID etc) on the seller and the piece (COA provenance etc). If paying with paypal don't use friends and family, as mentioned above you wont usually get buyer protection with it - you can dispute a payment sent via friends and family direct with your bank but there are only a few circumstances where you'll get the funds back.
I'd like to think most are good eggs here but its always best to do some ground work when buying.

How do you make deals with other users?, by iamzero on Oct 19, 2021 18:13:33 GMT 1, I have made plenty purchases on here from longstanding members using the friends and family feature with PayPal. I wouldn’t sell anything to newer members unless they used this method as it’s too easy to get scammed using the buyers protection way.

How do you make deals with other users?, by eyectopus on Oct 19, 2021 18:27:33 GMT 1, I have bought a good few items here and was mostly a very good experience. I paid with PayPal most of the time, but have paid by bank transfer also. It was riskier but I trusted the sellers.
Either way you need to get good photos and clear description of items and ask questions. One man's mint condition is another man's good condition. You also need to ensure how it will be packaged and shipped.

How do you make deals with other users?, by John The Badgers on Oct 19, 2021 19:17:07 GMT 1, Never had a bad experience on here, predominantly buying. Indeed, some very knowledgeable people who have helped me out in other areas.
I would take your time, do your research, look at previous posts etc, you will soon get a feel for whether they are a good 'un or a Shyster.
Totally agree with Hubblebubble, ask them for references from other members who they have dealt with, I'm sure you will find people more than willing to help you, myself included.

How do you make deals with other users?, by Acme Thunderer on Oct 19, 2021 19:32:47 GMT 1, Use the experience of long standing members as a lot us would have dealt with / been connected to someone in the past as either buying or selling. I’m always surprised what a small community it is. Because of this, I’ve given references for buyers of some high ticket items a few times to reassure them. But don’t be scared from buying from overseas either as there are some great international members.
Basically, don’t be afraid to ask for help as we all started as a newbie on the forum at some point.

Believe it or not, I read something a few days ago and people are managing to do successful charge backs through some banks even though the payment was made via PayPal, using friends and family payment. It’s put me off PayPal a-bit if I’m honest.

How do you make deals with other users?, by wrigs on Oct 19, 2021 20:15:01 GMT 1, I’ve only brought the one piece and sold a couple but all in all have had good dealings. Like anything else do your research and know who you’re dealing with before parting with cash. Worth checking previous thread history/comments to get a feel for who you’re talking with.

How do you make deals with other users?, by andypandy on Oct 22, 2021 20:50:34 GMT 1, I bought a Banksy print from another member on here within the past few weeks. Was probably one of the most straightforward transactions Ive had. I also purchased a Kaws Portfolio from another earlier in the year/end of last year. No issues either.
My advice would be to exchange copies of photo ID, speak on the telephone aswell. Anyone that isn't willing to speak on the phone is a def no no for me. Get references and give references if possible. Be dilligent and forthcoming and expect the same in return.
Good Luck

How do you make deals with other users?, by That Print Guy on Oct 22, 2021 22:24:15 GMT 1, Read the users posts, it's easy to see who you DON'T WANT to deal with. Shitty opinions = a potentially shitty deal, people show their true colors proudly. Ignore everyone in this thread that pays by friends and family, they are dummies. A phone call? A PHONE CALL? gtfo we live on the internet, no need to go analog. Paying by goods and services in PayPal offers all the protection you need. Use a credit card and you're double covered.

It’s good advice. But in reality I’ve often paid/been paid by friends and family. Never had a problem. One quite quickly knows who is trustworthy and who isn’t. Asking for references is a must. Obviously if it’s big money, then additional protection is sensible.

So you would be more than happy to do a deal for tens of thousands of $/£ without any need to pick up the phone to the seller if required? Yes we live on the internet but saying its not needed for transacting with private individuals on a forum is simply bad advice.

I've sold millions over the last decade. Haven't picked up the phone yet.

Haven't picked up the phone yet. That’s a big statement - millions? I’ve never seen you try to sell anything on here, and you’ve not even started one thread on the forum. Then when you have commented on other people’s posts, you have a tendency to swear or be bullish, so probably best you don’t speak to someone on the phone.
Just wondering if it’s these that you sell…?

Indeed. The bank is just acting on your behalf so it's always been doable. Technically if you have a direct debit in place they could just recharge. It also shouldn't affect the seller in the slightest.
Given the lack of protection from friends and family paypal payments it makes a lot more sense to use Wise or similar to save on fees/exchange rate. Bit more involved though so I can see why people avoid it.
