Banksy Bristol TShirt • Colston Four, by Rouen Cathedral on Dec 24, 2021 4:04:06 GMT 1, So you seem to be saying that it is ok to break the law for views you agree with but not for those that you disagree with. Of course everyone is against slavery. But that doesn't mean you can do what you want, because you are against slavery. I'm reminded of L. P. Hartley who said "the past is a foreign country. They do things differently there." Any statue celebrating anyone involved in slavery and the mistreatment of people based on race should be taken down. Sure - first by authorities, but if they are too ignorant to act in a timely manner then in this particular case, yes it was a justified statement of the movement. In the US the government has removed many similar statues themselves, particularly in Charleston and many southern states. I'm reminded of Rosa Parks who said "To bring about change, you must not be afraid to take the first step. We will fail when we fail to try."
How do you feel about Ancient Roman statues in Rome?
Or the Ancient monuments and statues in Greece?

Banksy Bristol TShirt • Colston Four, by Hairbland on Dec 24, 2021 12:38:58 GMT 1, silly counter argument there. Why do you think it's silly??? It's literally the same thing. If you want to destroy the Colston statue then you should, presumably, want to destroy ancient Roman statues as well (although hopefully, you don't). one difference might be modern history of the last 200-250 years, versus ancient history 2000 years ago.

Whilst it might be difficult to mount a logical argument to this effect, one can certainly have a “gut” feeling about it. I certainly feel that there is an emotional and ethical difference between removing a relatively recent stature of a slave trader (after inaction by the authorities) and removing ancient Roman remains/statues, regardless of whether logical arguments can be made to assert that there is no difference. I think the passage of time (and the resultant rarity of the artefacts) does make a huge difference. The result of the counter argument is that all historical monuments and artefacts have to be removed when the events of the day no longer match modern thinking, or nothing can ever be removed no matter how abhorrent it becomes. That outcome must be wrong.

Talking about racism, let's not forget what caused Robin all those problems in Kingston, jamaica all those years ago. You can find the original interview by simply googling the quote.
By the way - that word has done nothing for hip-hop.

If you want to destroy the Colston statue then you should, presumably, want to destroy ancient Roman statues as well (although hopefully, you don't). I suppose one notable difference is that there are a significant number of people today whose known family history has been permanently and negatively affected by activity in the time of Colston. I have yet to meet anyone who feels personally aggrieved by actions carried out on their ancestors in Ancient Rome. Perhaps they exist and the Roman statues are a daily reminder of the pain and suffering felt by prior generations of their family, but it seems less likely. yip, tell me what the Romans have ever done for us !

So now that Brainwash is ‘no longer discussed’ does that mean Banksy failed with that art project?
