Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by funster on Sept 4, 2008 9:34:28 GMT 1, I would urge anyone who's thinking about bidding to look at the condition of the piece first. I've never seen such a collection of creased and poorly framed pieces in one place before :/

i will second that... those banksy and faile pieces are croupled and knackered along the edges....
i love bombing middle england... but it wasnt framed... edges were battered and held up there with bulldog clips!
someone buys that.. they need a good optician.
but where can we see these online live??? whats those websites that do the streaming live... normally phillips are via ebay.. but not fo this auction.
any ideas??

Loads of bits have been put in with no reserve so they are going dirt cheap compared to the auction estimate.....

Just some of the prices I caught there. Bidding was relatively restrained and a few of the Banksy (prints) lots didn't meet reserves.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by edcase on Sept 6, 2008 15:55:54 GMT 1, Well, home empty handed but pleased I stuck to my guns and showed restraint!!
I bid on the small to 3500, the supine I thought I won @ 3,200 but he took an aaaage for more bids and suddenly someone on the phone went to 3,500 (not the 3,800 reported above). The signed bomb hugger went for silly money, like 3,700 or something. I also nearly won the framed walker life's too short with an unplanned cheeky bid of (I think £1200) cos it looked like it was about to sell, but then that got someone else bidding so I stopped. Very surprised a v for vandal, unframed and frankly very tatty went for something like 1100?
The banksy rat og on card went for around 33k, bme around 1.5k although very tatty, the wrong war trio which supposedly had full authentication went around 2500.
Looking back now I'm home, I'm not too disappointed. You can never tell what the other bidder will do so it's pointless saying one more bid might have got it. I really wanted to come home with the supine or the small but there will be other chances.

Artificial Gallery was trying to pawn that off for awhile at a price tag that was several times that. Although I kind of liked that painting, not a bad price today. But a bit of a wakeup call on that guy.

what does "tatty" mean? that it had creases and spots or something?

that painting is cool in its own way but I don't know who would want a cooch on the wall. I didn't expect it to do very well because of that fact but 1.4 is even lower than I expected.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Zippy on Sept 6, 2008 16:10:18 GMT 1, I cant believe the RR went went so cheaply at 11k. But then when you addon the auction extra's it looks about right....
11k x 25% = £2,750 VAT on £2,750 = £481.25 So, total = £14,231.25

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Zippy on Sept 6, 2008 16:13:31 GMT 1, The choe amuses me. I was meant to be buying it from JLG a year or two ago and it was 2kUSD. Choe was about to get massive and I thought it was a good opportunity whilst prices were still low. But, every time i looked at the e-mailed images I couldnt get excited and really didnt like it. So, following my own rule of buying only what you like, I didn't bother. I think the same must of happened today. A strong Choe would have sold for 7-8k no problem but this really isnt that strong. IMO of course!!

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by edcase on Sept 6, 2008 16:14:12 GMT 1, Have to say the matty small and judith supine's were the stars by a long way for me, I think we'll see great things from both of them in the next few years and those prices today will look like a steal. I would never in my wildest dreams pay 11k for a RR print over those two originals plus enough spare change for a very nice Faile on top. But that's just me.

No not so bad as to have creases, but you could see it had been 'well handled' versus the others, looked to have some slight finger marks, and the right and left edges were far from perfect. I wouldn't have paid that price anyway but certainly not in that condition.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Harveyn on Sept 6, 2008 17:06:45 GMT 1, Not bad prices for the market. Better bargains to be had outside auction houses. Good price on the Small and Supine. The Choe at £2k is very cheap but its not a good one and a bad market to be selling.
Sounds like it was a fun day.
Wizbong did you pick up any nice pieces of furniture?
