Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Deleted on Jun 8, 2021 13:40:16 GMT 1, How much more are the edition canvases now? Thought they would be about double that.. They start around £450k if you can find one, I don't see any available. They seem to have dried up. My point is if you have 200k for a Nola, Choose Your Weapon, us/Girl With Balloon or Love is in The Air print, then I think many buyers with that type of money would rather get something a little more special and room for price growth and originals makes sense. 100% agree. Getting a canvas is a no brainier at £400k compared to a £200k print.
Print market is limited and flooded, the other has unlimited upside. You choose.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Graham H on Jun 8, 2021 13:57:55 GMT 1, Its difficult to keep up with the numerous Banksy auction pieces that appear to have popped up in recent auctions. Has the Crude Oil landscape gone through yet?
Does anyone have a definitive list for us all to watch?

Forum auctions print sale this Thursday, should give us an idea of the current print market. Very few originals available or coming to auction sub £1million. Most of the well know Banksy dealers aren't openly selling originals so it's difficult to gauge the original market other than auction sales.
That being said there is a Stephen Munnery/Banksy quote piece with a low reserve at Sothebys. These traditionally have been the least expensive original available, I imagine because the text is by Munnery and not Banksy may have held these back to most informed Banksy collectors in the past, no image other than text and no Banksy tag or reference to the artist. IMO they are a good buy, they'll come with PC and Sothebys provenance and in years to come, I expect people will forget the Munnery connection altogether and only that it's a Banksy. Actually there is already no reference to Munnery, so his contribution is already forgotten. Anyone know if Munnery is mentioned on the PC certificate of these pieces?

No it didn't. I'm not surprised though, even a lot of people here claim it's only the print market that goes down, I also see a massive drop in his originals. It was very quiet here after the hessinks auctions for example, granted the rat didn't have a coa but it was an iconic, huge and well documented original.
The laugh now should have gone higher, especially as it's super limited and because of the option of paying with bitcoin. I think it was a attempt to boost Banksys worsening market, the Banksys piece was the only one on which bitcoin was accepted. bitcoin is on the way down too and really a lot of people want to get rid off it - so the theory was, that people spent their bitcoins on a Banksy, get a high sale price and everyone's happy. Didn't go well though.

I’d say that there will be another price rise at some point. Been around for long enough now to see this happen time and time again. There will be a ceiling, no doubt, but I’m of the opinion that there is still a bit to go yet. Time will tell. Do you own any artwork by Banksy?
I own an unsigned print and some bits, nothing special though. And to be fair, seeing the drop at the moment makes me happy that I don't have more lol

You mention the Hessinks auction, Winchester. What about the cardboard Love is in The Air that sold for 1M Euros? That piece was the only original in that auction that had a COA and it sold for 7 figures - for a not so big piece of cardboard with a stencil on it. Frankly I think this was cheap for an original Thrower (or Love is in The Air), and had it been with another auction house such as Sotheby's or Christie's it would've likely sold for much more. Hard to judge the original market for Banksy when taking account results from no name auction houses on street pieces that will never be issued a COA, regardless of how documented their authenticity may be.

All Im saying is that people like to hype up results and seeing them as "good", even though they show a steady decline. "bad results are just being ignored and talked down. There are accusations of Banksy working together with Sotheby's with misdated pieces, there are more and more fakes coming up as Banksy doesn't owe up to who he is to secure his trademark, collectors are waiting for their paid COAs way too long How is it OK to take over 100 GBP for a COA and stop being in contact with the costumers for over a year? I think all this factors and many more will make the market drop more and more - for originals and prints.

You are pretty annoying. Let things play out and that's it. Find a new hobby or something.

Seems Banksy, unlike the auction houses, certainly doesn't want people to forget Munnery's connection.
Oh, and it's Simon Munnery, not Stephen, btw.

Wait for the sour grapes to comment. Everytime I post price observations, creepy crawlies emerge to defend their artists like Edgar Plans and Oli Epp. Even though the price facts speak for themselves, they still deny the truth and go on a crusade.
Having said that, Nara money is $10m. So not a chance.

None of the Naras at this auction hit 10m… not even 2m.. But they are mediocre Naras. But yes I agree glassy eye vs glassy eye - Nara beats Javier 10 to 1. At least.
Yet Javier’s rise in such short times is remarkable. If he keeps rising at this rate… who knows.

Any reason why you constantly talk down his market?
Did he take your pocket money at school or something?

All I’ve seen of you over the last couple weeks is yourself talking down his market..
It’s getting mildly embarrassing now tbh

Well recently I'm completely fed up with him, the market drops and he still hasn't answered any of the fraud allegations. He's not doing anything at all to be fair and I'm also fed up with people in this forum claiming his market is fine - it definitely isn't.

People are waiting for COAs for months, that's a big problem, isn't it?

For someone who just has one unsigned print I really wouldn’t lose sleep over it. It’s really not worth the hassle.
His market is absolutely fine - with such a meteoritic rise over the last couple years it would always pull back.

It won't pull back if he doesn't finally act. He needs to get his pc authentication under control, people who are paying to authenticate their work should receive immediately what they paid for and not need to chase up pest control. Or am I wrong with that?
He also needs to secure his trademark, so the market with the fakes stop.
