Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Deleted on Dec 27, 2016 10:48:41 GMT 1, Surprised the Harland Miller 'Who Cares Wins' and the Taschen Hockney print are going in so soon after release. Sadly I'm not that surprised really as when Liberty contacted me to say I had won their raffle they were telling me that they had been inundated with private buyers and galleries contacting them to buy this print from the portfolio. Most were not interested in the remainder of the portfolio which is a pity as there are some excellent prints contained within !
When I posted that I had won the raffle it is fair to say that I received a good number of PM's looking to procure this print from me and I know for a fact that some would have been buying from me to sell on.

Some 50% over estimates. The economy must be good! You would think post-holiday recovery would set in. I can only imagine what the Banksy's will command.

They're huge and very lovely looking. When I saw them on display I thought they were originals, the detail of the paint is so sharp!

And at £5K all in it seems a real entry level Warhol - never seen it before.
Anyone have any info on this print? Is this a typical price for this?

Whilst small I think this is a good image.

And it's things like this that underscore for me how badly people's impression of art can be skewed when they know its monetary value.
I'm a big fan of Banksy. Love many of the pieces he has done. But that is a big miss for me.

When you put something like this on canvas or print (happy choppers) it loses a lot for me. This stops being cute when you attach crazy money to it.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by jluhiex on Feb 10, 2017 0:59:06 GMT 1, Isn't this a common theme with Banksy? Austerity, violence, authority with a contradictory, playful twist?
It's not just the monetary value, it's the fact that the MAN himself stenciled it. You have prints that are going for $50k (albeit beautiful prints) where the guy spent 3 seconds signing it. Originals are hard to come by...

I'm in the thinking it looks great camp. Is knowing it's by Banksy influencing that. Maybe. I don't know. But I enjoy the image tremendously.

surely you take in account when this piece was created, understand what the artist was doing in that period and look aesthetically at the piece too? Rather than just take it on face value?
Obviously an artist just biting and doing similar now, over a decade later would get shit? It's a trope that's done and as Banksy himself as done, you move on and push yourself.
The biggest criticism of a number of artists now...mentioning no names...is they simply haven't pushed on but continue to do the same tired tropes Banksy as already done years and years and years ago

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Matt on Feb 12, 2017 16:55:24 GMT 1, nex not really
There are loads of Banksy pieces that I find week and / or ill executed, especially when compared to others that came out around the same time.
This image for me lacks the power of HC which is in a similar vein, and in terms of execution it looks like someone threw a Rootsmanuva LP in the wash
I certainly do not think this is a "nice Banksy piece" even though I agree it has nothing to do with it being derivative

Won't be long before Banksy achieves the same status as Jesus. (in fact he allready has, his name is in block letters and Jesus name only in plain text)
Regardless of who it's by. Phillips manages to achieve huge prices for all sorts of stuff. So this one should sell way over reserve.
