Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by LJCal on Jan 22, 2021 9:52:13 GMT 1, Ouch. That's the sound of a long overheated B (as he's affectionately known round these endz) balloon deflating. I’m a bit confused. Didn’t two of the prints sell for record prices and the other two their second ever highest prices? I haven’t followed the Banksy market for long but aren’t these good results? Were people expecting even bigger prices?
They’re fine, donuts perhaps underperformed a bit but BC and Napalm were records (Napalm was an AP but who cares about numbering when image is identical), people expect price rises of 10% between auctions or they all have panic attacks, or all the salty people who can’t afford a Banksy print delight in any sign of the market cooling and call it a crash.

Not that I disagree with your overall message, but wasn't the record for U/S Barcode the last one at Bonhams?
banksy-value.com/individual.php?printn=Barcode&edition=Unsigned
£80k Hammer / £107,200 all in.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by lollo88 on Jan 22, 2021 10:19:38 GMT 1, That's what I'm going on about! Did you watch the auction - she stated at the start of each Banksy lot, that this item is subject to additional US import costs. Just saying.... don't shoot the messenger! I call bullshit, checked special conditions in the t’s and c’s for these lots and no mention of additional costs over and above standard premium and arr. I’ll speak to them tomorrow to confirm this. I swear he is not bullshitting, the auctioner stated that before all of the Banksy peaces

Apologies, you’re quite right I thought that was a signed impression when I reviewed the list of results on my aggregator. Never the less two sold in October for £55k hammer so for me the December is the outlier. It’s is an important reminder to never gauge the value of a print on one result (which people all too often do).

That’s very strange, you would have thought this would be in the written terms. I’ll investigate and ask my contact at Phillips to confirm as this would of course have a huge impact on results. If I’m wrong the I apologise to the member who claimed this,

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by JFCC on Jan 22, 2021 10:31:37 GMT 1, Not sure what the fuss is, the prices were pretty consistent with what we have seen over the last few months?
Barcode u/s has been a bit over exposed of late with 4 showing in the last 3 months and the price achieved was the second best ever, so pretty good.
Strawberry Donuts repeated exactly what had been seen in the previous 3 auctions, the repeat of a record.
Chocolate Donuts was down 10% but still in the same range as the last one seen through auction. This was a surprise.
Neplam was on the face of it a great piece, an Ap and a different colour, but its a little bit "specialist" as its always been marmite to most people. I like it personally, but it was in very poor condition in my opinion which will have ruled a lot of people off. that said a 27% increase is a very strong result.
So a pretty decent day, it hasn't blown the doors off but a fair start. Just my view 🤷🏻♂️

The whole Auction has been estimated prices being doubled or tripled, and this thing stopped with the arrival of Banksy's pieces. It think we all felt the shift of momentum and felt like Banksy underperformed which, as it turns out, is not true.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Alexander 88 on Jan 22, 2021 11:28:27 GMT 1, Slightly off topic observation: Hirst seems to have had a bumper day. All lots selling comfortably above estimate Inc. Aspects for +30k. Some of the lower end editions selling for 3/4 x estimate. I’m guessing another Heni drop is coming soon? Any experts able shed light on what’s behind the bump in hammer prices?

Not as well as Banksy, but I'm guessing that with a recession on the horizon investors are heading for the safety of certain name artists. Not headed for Freud !

Freud’s prints are meh. His painting are what people want and they’ll still perform well

The Freuds in yesterday’s auction are far from his best (or most popular) etchings. Plenty out there which would easily make £50k+ on the right day - self portraits, Kai etc.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by lv90210 on Jan 23, 2021 13:17:26 GMT 1, I’m a bit confused.
Napalm AP’s are different.
I’m actually in the market for the pink one ( like pink police kids )
If anyone has a lead or know the owner PM me pls.
