Perspex Box Frame โข Display Box, by iamzero on Sept 28, 2013 22:36:59 GMT 1, Just out of interest why would you want to put a canvas behind Perspex? There are paintings that have survived hundreds of years without the need for protection and surely it would just look obtrusive. Just my opinion of course but I would just enjoy it out in the open.

Perspex Box Frame โข Display Box, by DameHoracia on Sept 29, 2013 0:43:32 GMT 1, I'm sure ashrx will say his reasoning behind wanting to have his canvas framed perspex box.
I know how some of my graffiti canvases from the early 90's have fared having been exposed to elements from everyday living and those are fully spray painted pieces. So going on that and taking into consideration this piece has a mainly white background (untouched by the spray paint used) and only primed white - if that from what I can see, I doubt it would look very nice after 20/30 yrs hanging in the open. Most paintings that survive are in oil/or acrylic and the canvas surface is fully painted. So if they need to be cleaned by a professional after years of hanging, it can be done easily. An unprimed/even primed exposed canvas will not stay white for very long.
If I could have saved the money and got away with it, I would have spent it on art!

Perspex Box Frame โข Display Box, by Hubble Bubble on Sept 29, 2013 9:44:51 GMT 1, Nice ashrx
Two of my Eine canvasses are behind perspex. 'Hot Words and Glossy Covers' is 1 metre x 80 cm (canvas size)
'Monsters' is 75cm x 75cm (canvas size)
Both are clear perspex. One thing to check is the frame size... Ben's frames can be a less than perfectly squared which, if you have tight borders between the edge of frame and your framing can make them look like they've been set wonky. This was the case with Monsters and, in the end, I had the backing changed to match the colour of the concrete canvas... problem disappeared.

To answer what people have been speaking about, why?..... because I want to? No real reason, partly because I want it protected and partly because I like the look of them behind perspex. hubblebubble if you'd prefer not to say thats cool but what sort of price range did you pay for the perspex?
cheers

Perspex Box Frame โข Display Box, by Jimmy Oscar on Aug 5, 2014 14:13:04 GMT 1, Saw that - surprised it hasn't been snapped up already. Already framed with COA for 3k. Guess folk are waiting to bid at the last minute. Also can't ship it which limits options.
Framing should be similar to it - I like the look - any idea on cost anyone?

Perspex Box Frame โข Display Box, by opalis141 on Aug 5, 2014 14:41:22 GMT 1, I've had these guys build custom perspex boxes for me before: www.hpmanufacturing.com/ A 66โ L x 13โ W x 6โ H box cost me $183 plus shipping. When the box arrived damaged they sent me a new one, expedited shipping, free of charge for an exhibition I had. A pleasure to work with if you are U.S. based--I'm not sure what their deal with international shipping is.

I'm presuming in a Perspex box the print needs to be pretty solid taped down?
Is that what you guys have done?
Non sticky tape presumably!

Is that what you guys have done? Non sticky tape presumably! I was using mine to display 3D work on the floor of the gallery. That said, depending on your display preferences you could probably use clear, very small, photo corners if you are afraid of damaging the print. They would show, but minimally. Otherwise maybe others have suggestions for floating the print--I would just imagine you would need a decent adhesive to have it stick to the perspex back.

Perspex Box Frame โข Display Box, by Oski on Feb 19, 2015 4:48:15 GMT 1, I took a piece to a respected framer here in NYC and was initially quoted a preliminary range of $150 to $200 for a smallish perspex frame job (approx. 9.25" x 7.625" x 3"), which I was happy to pay. Most framers outsource their custom perspex frames, so I had to wait for him to get a quote from his source first. It then came back at a total cost of $350!
The framer, being a reputable guy, advised that I go direct to one of the perspex places here in NYC to save some money, since he doesn't have to take his cut. There are two places downtown (1) T&T Plastic Land and (2) Canal Plastic Center. I provided each with rough dimensions to obtain a quote and received a quote of $98 and a 2 week turnaround time for T&T and $110 from Canal Plastic with a 3-4 day turnaround. I ended up working with T&T because they were slightly cheaper and also because they seem to better understand what I was trying to do (communications seemed easier).
It became apparent that I should provide as much detail and clear instructions as possible of the custom job and that I should put together drawings to help in the process. The back and forth with them ended up taking about 2 weeks, but I finally provided them with the following drawings:
This gives an ideal of the level of instructions required to avoid miscommunications and disappointment. It also involved a few additional calls to clarify various elements.
2 weeks later (now over 4 weeks from the beginning) I was able to pick up the frame and was really happy with what they put together:
If you have time and can provide clear instructions, I'd recommend you to go to a local plastic center to have a custom job made instead of going to a framer. In this case I can highly recommend T&T Plastic Land if you are in the NYC area.

Nice invader as well Thanks Willy. It certainly seemed simple enough initially and they were able to price based on the rough dimensions. But then of course when it came time to make it, then everything needed to be specified. The drawings were done on MS Word and became more complex as I had to answer more questions from them.

I'm looking to get something similar done for my Invasion Kit. Thanks for sharing the plans, its given me some good ideas.
Has anyone in the UK got any experience of working with plastic companies? I see on the Acrylidex website that they make bespoke frames for Invasion Kits - anyone know if they are any good?
