Perspex Box Frame โข Display Box, by kendo on Feb 20, 2015 12:06:03 GMT 1, That looks really smart and a really helpful guide as well!
How are you fixing the back of the invader to the Perspex? Will it tip forward slightly when standing upright without any fixings?
Is there a reason why you went for a thinner thickness to the front and not the same thickness as the sides?
That looks really smart and a really helpful guide as well!

Perspex Box Frame โข Display Box, by Oski on Feb 20, 2015 15:50:10 GMT 1, That looks really smart and a really helpful guide as well! How are you fixing the back of the invader to the Perspex? Will it tip forward slightly when standing upright without any fixings? Is there a reason why you went for a thinner thickness to the front and not the same thickness as the sides? Thanks kendo! Very astute observations. The tiles of this piece is mounted to black perspex so is 3/4" thick, which allows it to stand on it's own on a flat surface (including the inside of the frame) without tipping. There is a hanging hole on the back of the piece, which I can have the option to affix to the back of the frame. But generally I just wanted to provide some protection and stability (2 keyhole mounts on the perspex frame vs. 1 on the piece itself).
I wanted 1/8" thickness in the front to minimize the amount of perspex to see through to view the piece. But having 1/8" thick sides would result in less contact surface for the cement and increased possibility of the front piece lifting off of the sides over time.
I've also left a 1/16" gap between the piece and the inside dimensions of the frame to allow for expansion/contraction without damage.

Although I'm not so keen on the end result aesthetically, I thoroughly enjoyed this post and found your meticulousness most impressive.
One question: Ignoring any cost impact, if you had made the request, would the suppliers have been capable of producing piece 'A' as a single, moulded piece of acrylic with rounded corners and edges (as opposed to one front piece and four side pieces sealed together)?

I did not investigate the rounded corners and edges concept. As a test of Canal Plastic (the other shop) I actually just had another easy small box done by them, which I picked up today. Let me email both shops and see if they can do the moulded corners based on what I sent them previously and get back to you. Cheers.

Perspex Box Frame โข Display Box, by Oski on Mar 4, 2015 16:34:14 GMT 1, met, heard back from both shops and neither of them are capable of doing a mold. Framing shops go to more sophisticated custom perspex fabricators so that's why we've seen that type of framing done. Would have to do research to see what local fabricators will do the round corners.

While I think rounded corners and edges look much better, I also suspect the expertise and labour required to produce a bespoke mould would potentially double or triple the price. And using non-reflective acrylic would push the total cost even higher.

Perspex Box Frame โข Display Box, by disturbart on Dec 18, 2015 21:28:45 GMT 1, Just got my hands on a Keith haring pop shop bag and was thinking of putting it in a Perspex box, does anyone have any recommendations on who to use in south of uk Essex, Herts, London ?
Also don't want to damage the bag so how would it be mounted in Perspex box?
Thanks

Perspex Box Frame โข Display Box, by benjamayn on May 13, 2019 19:32:46 GMT 1, Hi!
I'm thinking about framing my Sweettoof plastic sign with a custom made perspex acrylic box frame. But I have absolutely no expensive with this type of framing.
The sign measures 41 cm x 34 cm x 0.4 cm.
The sign has some velcro on the back, so i'm thinking about trying to use that when I mount it to the backboard. But surely it needs some extra space in the frame? But how much "extra space" would I need around the sign?
Anyone who can recommend someone making those?
Thanks!

Thereโs also a few people doing boxes on etsy, maybe you can message some directly for a custom quote

I'll share the results and info when its finished.
