Visit NEW YORK πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by dreadnatty on Mar 4, 2014 19:17:35 GMT 1, When I went to New York I spent a lot of time wandering Manhattan, but someone on this board recommended the Bushwick Collective in Brooklyn. I spent most of the day just wondering the area. A great place to kill some time and see some great street art. Here is a quick link to a NYTimes article on some of the street art areas. (this article is old so places like 5 Pointz are no longer there sadly) Yeah great place and now quite a few places to grab a bite or a beer. Just avoid the Pixel Pancho, that chicken Abatoir is pretty damned disgusting This place has some great Mexican over there - www.menupages.com/restaurants/tortilleria-mexicana/menu

Visit NEW YORK πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Hairbland on Mar 4, 2014 22:26:26 GMT 1, Always something good at Jonathan Levine. I suggest the Morgan Library, it was JP Morgan's old mansion, free on Friday nights and 2 good shows on now, plus all the unbelievable stuff he collected with all of his money, from a Beethoven manuscript with Beethoven's writing on it, 2 Gutenberg bibles...it's truly amazing I was in there one night with a buzz and was reading a note from Michelangelo to his dad about his painting. And it's within blocks of the Empire State Building which looks great lit up at night.
I've lived in city almost 30 years - the skyline never gets old. Come to Brooklyn, go to the Dumbo waterfront and eat at Juliana's pizza, opened in the past year by the formerly retired Patsy Grimaldi, who used to own Grimaldi's (which is now where the tourists go). Juliana's is great and Patsy works the room - NYC history at its best. Walk along the Dumbo waterfront for a true view of NYC.
Xi'an Famous Foods is also great Chinese, the hole-in-the-wall in Chinatown the best. Or take the subway to Queens and go to the New World Shopping Center - voted best food court in NYC, all Asian.
Guggenheim has an Italian Futurism show underway - free on Saturday nights.
Definitely go to Williamsburg and the Brooklyn Flea - considered one of the world's Top 5 flea markets, crafts, and great food the Smorgasburg...many vendors and the best ones have quickly graduated to restaurants - open Saturday and Sunday.
I agree with most of the fine suggestions here, I'm more of a Mighty Quinn BBQ fan.
Eataly is full of tourists.
Go to The Strand and buy a book.

Visit NEW YORK πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by aladdinsane on Mar 6, 2014 19:02:16 GMT 1, Darren Aronofsky is taking his visionary vibe to a literal and logical conclusion next week with an art show in New York City. "Fountains of the Deep: Visions of Noah and the Flood" will give attendees a taste of what inspired Aronofsky's vision of the Biblical epic.
The "Noah" director said, "While writing the script for 'Noah,' I wondered how my favorite artists would interpret the iconic text. So I decided to ask a few of them to return to Genesis and create an image of their own... This exhibit is the collection of their work: in painting, in drawing, in photography, in sculpture and in music." The exhibit will feature works from a wide swath of modern artists, from psychedelic illustrator Jim Woodring to legendary photographer Nan Goldin. Aronofsky has been posting sneak peeks of the art on Twitter, along with retweets of stuff like this:
"Fountains of the Deep" will be on display at 462 West Broadway in New York City from March 7 to March 29.

Visit NEW YORK πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by mmmike on Mar 8, 2014 6:04:16 GMT 1, My quick reviews of my ny trip
armory - WOW!!!! Scope - worth taking a walk through, some nice stuff but not even close to armory Volta - some interesting stuff, but not my favourite Spring break - really cool. Very funky stuff, a great mix, the most artistic fair of the bunch. I had a great time. City as a canvas - check it out. It is worth going just to see the lee Howard the duck piece. IMHO that might be one of the most important graffiti canvasses out there. There are a number of other cool things as well. I also went to MOMA for a bit. Crazy good as always.
Not bad for two days in the city. Looking forward to the next two days.

Personally I felt it was a bit dull. Some great Ryan McGuinnes and Opie pieces though. There were too many wow moments. Some by artists I know and many by artists that I had never heard of. I liked the mix of artists and I'm partial to large pieces, and abstract works there was a lot of both.
today i went to the independent, adaa and fountain. My two favourites overall are still armory and spring break for very different reasons.
If you didn't like armory you might like spring break. They could not have been more different.
