Some of New York Cityโs most desolate spots are also some of its most beautiful. This derelict Sunset Park warehouse I recently ventured into qualifies as one of those places. Thoroughly dilapidated and rundown, yet beaming with sunlight and rows of columns, the sprawling abandoned space is adorned with graffiti from the likes of NOXER, PLASMA SLUGS, SEND HELP, VEW, KLOPS, COMIK, GOUCH and so many others. There were definitely ways around what he did. ย I don't fault him for making a business decision to develop his land, i just wish he had done it in a way that preserved the art. ย There has to be a way for business and community to exist hand in hand. ย At the ed of the day the way he went about it was terrible. ย He ddn't even allow time for proper archiving of the artwork. ย Dispicable if you ask me, but hey, that's the new big apple right... ย Giuliani got rid of the hookers and peep shows and movie theaters in time squaree, and turned it into some f**ked up outdoor maxi mall catering to the base vulgarity of capitalist humanity, and it was all down hill from there...
This massive buff was what inspired our efforts in Miami this year. Living the life of a professional I imagined that he went through the expense to buff something he was only going to knock down because the people on the other side of the table were being contentious and possibly unreasonable. Remeber, originally he said he would provide some walls and some artist housing. From what I was able to piece together, instead of someone reasonably negotiating for more, the discussion got nasty and he did what he could do, he took it away, spent thousands (likely) buffing it just to make a point. It was a shame. It could have been a much better outcome. and things could have gone suddenly.

The oft-photographed, paint-covered concrete slab at Bowery and East Houston โ colloquially referred to as the โgraffiti wallโ โ is going into hiding again. Os Gemeosโ mural from 2009 had been exposed for about a month earlier this fall, essentially as a reminder that art still existed here during construction activities next door.
Workers have been busy the last week assembling the two-story enclosure, which will become the new replacement canvas for a slew of artists on the horizon. Scaffolding and netting is in place to help with the feat. This was expected. Goldman Properties, owner of the graffiti wall since 2004, revealed as much back in October.
Meanwhile, the new two-level commercial building rising at 76 East Houston Street is still under the knife. Once complete, the floor area will boast 775 square-feet on the ground floor, 680 square-feet on the second floor, and 803 square-feet on said rooftop.
Official unveiling is expected sometime in spring 2015.
