Visit NEW YORK ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by thesewalls on Oct 29, 2014 16:16:02 GMT 1, Might possibly be the worst mural I have ever seen in Williamsburg (i've lived in the area for 12 years now) and that includes all the new "had painted walls" that are actually advertisements. Haha the Colossal ads, nice little niche they carved out for themselves, the best are the ones for the company, funny stuff.
I see both sides of the mural I guess, it really is at the bottom of the pile, but it could be a lot worse!

Visit NEW YORK ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by thesewalls on Oct 29, 2014 16:26:15 GMT 1, Not just going over but calling out COST as a defeated and very dead dinosaur? That's a big old can of beef he's just opened... Haha honestly not sure if he realized what he started; think he might've viewed it as an homage of sorts, but Cost is not feeling it. That said, I wanna see this piece and have no clue where it is - somewhere that has a Cost/ENX post-up and graffiti tags, so that eliminates... 1/10 of the five boroughs. COST getting pissed about this seems ludicrous. He's All City all day. And it's 2014, people are going over sh*t left and right. The graffiti culture is obviously prevalent and at large, but it's evolved, evolving. It's not like he went over the whole thing or wrote TOY or anything. And besides, COST is using paste, so he's more of a 'street artist' now anyway lol.

Visit NEW YORK ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by sgolby on Nov 4, 2014 18:45:08 GMT 1, ON my way to lunch today, I came across this Canvas Stapled to a wooden wall near a construction site... with a paypal contact written on a piece of paper, and a price of $5,300. Written underneath the price was "New York is My Gallery":
Is it me, or does it seem absolutely NUTS to leave a canvas like that in the middle of the street... Anyone know about this guy?
I happen to like the piece quite a bit, however am philosophically opposed to pulling art from the street... even if, like this it is meant to be taken into someone's home...

This 5 Pointz Documentary Reflects on the History and Destruction of the New York City Landmark www.complex.com/style/2014/11/5-pointz-documentary-reflects-on-the-history-and-destruction-of-the-new-york-city-landmark
A year ago, the world famous graffiti site in Long Island City, Queens, called 5 Pointz was whitewashed by the owner without warning. Early this month, demolition crews began knocking down the walls of the iconic building, making the anniversary of the art destruction an even more painful one for the artists that had enjoyed the space for almost two decades.
Independent filmmaker P.J. Monsanto shared a documentary online this week that discusses the history of the space, owner Jerry Wolkoff's plan to build new luxury condos on the site, and captures reactions to the whitewashing by 5Pointz artists Kid Lew and Dane 2. It's sad to hear one of the artists share his optimism about the legal battle to save 5Pointz under the Artists Rights Act, knowing that it didn't work out that way at all.

Fuggin SHAME!!! wouldve been great had he just sold the Air Rights to other developers and somehow turned it into a museum/gallery type venue perhaps allied with PS1/MOMA. There were definitely ways around what he did. I don't fault him for making a business decision to develop his land, i just wish he had done it in a way that preserved the art. There has to be a way for business and community to exist hand in hand. At the ed of the day the way he went about it was terrible. He ddn't even allow time for proper archiving of the artwork. Dispicable if you ask me, but hey, that's the new big apple right... Giuliani got rid of the hookers and peep shows and movie theaters in time squaree, and turned it into some fucked up outdoor maxi mall catering to the base vulgarity of capitalist humanity, and it was all down hill from there...
