Banksy • frAGILE • Legacy of War Foundation , by Mark on Dec 28, 2022 16:39:46 GMT 1, I totally get why some people get too upset and angry, being a fan but having no opportunity to own any of his art is frustrating, much like wanting to see your favourite band live but tickets being sold for way more than you could ever afford.
Although Damien Hirst is out of reach for many, at least with his NHS Butterfly Release, it allowed people to own something of his, which they could normally never do, given prices were still a little high.
Personally, I find this whole lottery a little mean, and not keeping in a good spirit, in fact, he should feel proud that so many want his work hanging on their wall. Personally I would have liked to see the lotteries (LoWF, GDP) done without any COA being given, this would at least reduce the number of people entrying purely to flip the art for profit.
Banksy has clearly decided to be a profit-making business, not an artist, which is a little sad, especially as he's come from nothing to being able to demand huge sums, and now forgets many of his followers.
Releasing a print wouldn't cause much harm, in fact, if he is set on making huge sums, it would make good business sense, an unsigned Open Edition with no COA would ensure all Banksy fans are kept happy and refrain from being negative.
I look back at the days POW was online and only think, that would be fantastic to re-launch,i'm sure there are a huge number of print houses which could do with the extra business producing the work.
Anyway, only my thoughts, don't get angry :-)

Banksy • frAGILE • Legacy of War Foundation , by mojo on Dec 28, 2022 17:22:42 GMT 1, Yeah Banksy, so totally selfish what with supplying an ambulance to Ukraine and raising the profile of Legacy of War Foundation resulting in making a small fortune in aid going to war torn countries... and then to top it off giving 50 people from all over the world a fair chance of buying a print that in a couple of years might be sold for life changing amounts of cash...disgraceful, should be ashamed of themselves.
*You didn't win deal with it...and for those that did congratulations.

Hirst is a good businessman
Banksy is a good artist
That pretty much explains it all
Does he wanna make money ? Who doesnt
Does he wanna run a business or have an understanding of that infrastructure in any way at all ? Hell no
In the end this was a nice thing for a good cause, it isn’t GDP/ PC / POW style , it was a charitable release at random.
plenty more chances to come in 2023/24/25 etc im sure
will they be well run like a Hirst release? Nope. Will it be hella exiciting and adrenaline fuelled? Yep
to paraphrase Warhol, Banksy is a commercial artist but he isn’t a business artist

So an artist shouldn't expect to make money? Just because he or Hirst or Kaws are more popular/mainstream doesn't mean that they shouldn't profit from their success.
If anything, it seems to me like Banksy is the better of the 3 when it comes to not flooding the market for sheer money grabs, but especially Kaws with one vinyl OE after another after another. And Banksy could do exponentially better if he/she/they wanted to profit from that success by going the auction route versus fixed price sales given the huge disparity between price at release via POW/GDP/etc. versus re-sale prices at auction.

I think people are missing my point.
An artist should absolutely make money, and they should make as much money as they can \ want. That is their right.
And no, they should not flood the market with random crap.
My point is, Banksy has a large following, of which 99.99999% would never be able to afford his work, if they did, it would most likely mean taking on some sort of debt.
So maybe he should consider keeping his fans happy, because without them, he wouldn't be in the privileged position he is, to do big scale projects (Ambulance to Ukraine, The Louise Michel etc).
So an occasional well thought out release every few years, that allows people to proudly put his work on their wall wouldn't do any harm.
Sure, people would look at it as a money maker, which is why you run an open edition without any COA.
I'm sure his team does put a lot of his work though auction, and with GDP, I believe that was a mix of good PR \ Marketing for the Banksy brand, and to help with his copyright case.
Although Hirst does churn out a huge amount, most is unaffordable and unobtainable, he has at least made his work accessible through his charity release, and The Currency, although kind of a lottery, the odds were pretty good with a huge number released.
Hey! My post was never meant to start some was or argument, I know people are very passionate about Banksy, which is cool, I love his work too, so don't take it personally.

Banksy • frAGILE • Legacy of War Foundation , by vamoose138 on Dec 29, 2022 6:02:31 GMT 1, Congrats to anyone who won. I do think these lottery's would be better done by entering your Instagram handle and following Legacy of War Foundation , at least that way, they can have a look at who is legit, who is clearly an art flipper, and be pretty sure only one entry is done per person. It would also boost the spread for the Legacy of War Foundation. Maybe a small dontation to enter would have been a good thing too, with a million applications, a donation of £5 per application would have been a huge help to the cause. Sadly I did not get an email, but well done to those who did Instagram wouldn’t help either. Their bots would just do that too & legacy of foundation instagram would just have thousands of new fake followers unfortunately

Banksy • frAGILE • Legacy of War Foundation , by Bigal 1987 on Dec 29, 2022 16:22:59 GMT 1, Why are people getting so angry? Hes made 50 prints to go to 50 people, ALL the money goes to charity and Banksy has made a loss on it as hes covering all charges. How many here have made £250k to go towards a charity, im guessing not many of you! There are people dying from a war that no-one wants and some of you on this thread moaning because they cant get a piece of his work to hang on the wall (and as we all know some will flip). Atleast you have a wall to hang the piece up on or the 5k to buy it. Those of you that are whinging because its not fair get a f**king grip, life isn't fair!!
Congratulations to anyone who has won on this forum 👍🏻

It’s full of bickering self entitled old men, would be great if it went to random non art collectors across the globe - just to spice things up. ✊🏻✊🏻 Your right I have not been on here for a long time but when I signed back in I quickly got insulted and no matter where I looked there Is lots of bickering by genuinely unpleasant people .

Banksy • frAGILE • Legacy of War Foundation , by Wearology on Dec 30, 2022 1:59:41 GMT 1, Money ruined Urban Art forever ! This place used to be a source for unannounced launches and other great information ! Now it is filled with keyboard warriors who act like the staff at Dismaland. I have been on here since 2007 and used to be a very proud member of this scene.
