Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by LJCal on Feb 6, 2023 23:04:46 GMT 1, Are people trying to compare this to Hirst in terms of pricing? Hirst is arguably the most important artist of the last 20 years, Invader is a street artist who is on the rise but certainty hasn't reached Blue Chip status as yet. I like these works, I like the size, the colours and the medium. I don't think you can compare them to Hirst though. Not even close. Pricing these closer to ยฃ1000 or ยฃ1500 would be more appropriate. I was going to go for the Marilyn but I am still wrestling with my decision. I normally buy with two factors in-mind, investment potential and what I like. Unfortunately there is no investment potential in these for my mind. Hirst has released probably about 100x more prints and originals so his output more than covers his additional notoriety. Don't get me wrong I love and collect Hirst but they're totally different markets. We really won't know the investment credentials of these prints until the editions sizes are known, I personally think a lot more true collectors who are planning to keep hold will buy these compared to some of Hirst's timed releases, of course plenty of flippers but perhaps a smaller proportion. I don't think ยฃ2.5k+VAT is a bad price at all even with edition sizes of 1000-1,500.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by Smokeidaeye on Feb 6, 2023 23:56:12 GMT 1, If I wanted an Invader and didn't already have one, I would track down one of the s/n screenprinted VNA magazine covers for less than a third of the price. They are much smaller than these but it's a great image and an edition of 150. yeah but it's a magazine and the size of an a4 piece of paper. Just giving a cheaper alternative for anyone who is looking for an actual screen print that is signed on the piece and with a (likely) much smaller edition size vs. an oversized picture on aluminum with a signed sticker on the back for $3k.
Ultimately people should buy what they love, I just think these are overpriced for what they are. I'm not a buyer or a seller so I have no skin in the game.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by stuckeyc on Feb 7, 2023 0:32:15 GMT 1, Price per square cm on these is less than alert and I would think the production cost is significantly higher to make them. Not sure why everyone thinks the price is so crazy. Seems pretty reasonable actually. Probably just me justifying buying.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by esfer on Feb 7, 2023 3:20:30 GMT 1, Surely it's cheaper to screenprint these? it would cost way more to screenprint these, labour and materials would be triple the cost I highly doubt that. Screen printing anything is cheap as chips. And these are straight color separation... you could easily have these printed, in this size, for less than $40.00 each (and I'm being very generous here). Maybe not if you do it to through some high-end overpriced print "publisher", but many screen printing shops could do it with no problem. I had 9 color screen prints made for around $12.00 each, 18" x 24", and I made them in a small quantity. In larger quantities it's even cheaper. If these Di-bond mounted to aluminum prints are cheaper than $40 each, I'll be shocked.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by Londown 01 on Feb 7, 2023 9:04:53 GMT 1, I am not buying, so I am not trying to keep the edition size low.
The price is crazy, because, like many have stated, these are PHOTOGRAPHS ! They have ZERO ARTISTIC MERIT !
I have written many bad comments, because I admire Invader's work, but his prints are beyond my budget. When they announced the HENI collaboration, I was excited about the opportunity! I, obviously, don't think that anymore. The worst thing for me is not that they have made these unappealing reproductions, or that HENI is trying to make money from it - it is that Invader goes along with it: its really is taking his fans and collectors for fools!

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by slartibartfast on Feb 7, 2023 9:37:19 GMT 1, In my view these are a cool massive Invader piece for a reasonable price. Ive been unlucky on Spaceshop and prices evade my pocket on secondary. I would never be able to afford a Rubiks edition so I think im happy to partake but understand folks views on the photograph. They look awesome though.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by rockbeer on Feb 7, 2023 9:59:35 GMT 1, I dropped in to Heni to see these in the flesh yesterday, and they actually look more interesting than I expected.
One thing which became immediately apparent was that anyone considering buying to hang needs to give careful thought to where they'll be hanging them. To my mind, neither Camouflage nor Country Life (nor Marilyn to a certain extent) worked at all when viewed from any closer than about 3 metres. I wouldn't consider either of these for a small room or a hall or stairway. Perhaps that's one reason for the cube image โ it's simple enough to work, at least kind-of, close-up. That said, the cube is still far and away my least favourite of the four.
To my eye, Marilyn was surprisingly effective โ far more so than country life, which I found impossible to really process, no matter where I was viewing it from. Maybe it's just because Marilyn is such an iconic image that my brain found it easy to interpret and to fill in all the missing detail, whereas Country Life just looked too blocky and lacking in detail to work for me. For those that love the image it might well be a very different story.
As for the selection of images, they may not be to everyone's taste โ is anything ever to everyone's taste? โ but I got the impression that the artist was heavily involved in the selection process. That won't make them any more appealing to the haters, of course... but let's at least put the responsibility where it belongs.
Up close, the photographic origins of the images really comes through, disappointingly. Standing in front of them, I really couldn't convince myself that they were anything other than photographic reproductions, although of extremely high quality. On the plus side, they do have a lot more life and character than I was expecting. All the detail of the original images is preserved, the obvious involvement of the human hand in assembling them, and the big, heavy chunks of resin gives them a real solidity. And of course, the majority of prints are photographic repdroductions, ultimately, so I see no reason to be especially hard on these particular ones on that basis. At least two, and arguably three, of the four are strong images. All are well reproduced and immaculately presented, and they fulfill Heni's aim of making high-end art accessible. Where else are you going to get a signed Invader at this price?
I'm really confused about this one. I hoped seeing them up close would help me reach a decision, but if anything it's made it even more difficult. The cube and Country Life are, for me, an easy pass, but Camouflage and Marilyn are genuinely impressive pieces I'd be happy to hang โ if I had enough wall and floor space. But 3 grand isn't cheap for a giclee, and I don't, as a rule, buy giclees. Although there's always an exception to every rule.
Five more days to decide... Hope this helps anyone who's as uncertain as I am.

I probably would have been tempted with a stronger image but these aren't screaming out to me. As a few people have mentioned I'm not sure these would work in your standard 2 up 2 down house or in hallways. definitely need the right environment to make them pop.

One questions, on your pictures the colours don't seem to be "vibrant", is this similar when looking at them?

They definitely looked more vibrant in the flesh. I didn't spend a vast amount of time optimising the photos, just set the camera to auto so it's probably that. I did notice the photos look a bit muted and yellow when I uploaded them. They aren't easy things to photograph well...

It's actually what makes the Rubikscubism pieces so appealing to me, abstract up close, only revealing the image only when taking some distance or looking through a phonecamera.
I can understand Marilyn "works" best as it contains the most cubes (or pixels if you will) to create a clearer picture.
I'm still undecided, if I do pass it will be with some regret, hoping there will be a second series with images more to my liking.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by Petrusino on Feb 7, 2023 11:55:11 GMT 1, Over the past decade, like many other forum members, caught up in the rush to buy some new release or for other reasons, I've sold my Invader screenprints for a few hundred pounds and many of them now seem to be worth over ยฃ10,000... but that doesn't mean I now have to get caught up in the fomo and settle for buying this sheet metal photograph. I still remember Invader's craftsmanship in sticking his mosaics around and in making editions and this one by Heni is what is the furthest away from him and from his way of making art. This stuff is what it seems: a pack of signed labels shipped to London and a huge bank transfer to Paris. I still keep noticing that not even Invader seems to advertise it on his profiles. These open editions of mediocre quality are making everything look like a big supermarket, many artists and gallerists are only thinking about getting rich. I much more prefer lottery editions. We live in times of war, climate change, economic crisis and urban art and contemporary art seems to have nothing more to say. We are at the gas barrel

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by The Origin on Feb 7, 2023 12:18:26 GMT 1, I went to see these in person and they are vibrant and impressive in the flesh.
Echo the thoughts above that they will dominate a space so need a big room to do them justice.
Price is a little punchy but for a massive signed Invader you can buy at your leisure I think its a great opportunity for people who have never got lucky at the spaceshop.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by Martin M on Feb 7, 2023 12:23:20 GMT 1,
I dropped in to Heni to see these in the flesh yesterday, and they actually look more interesting than I expected. Really good, well written helpful post Rockbeer.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by Buckwurst on Feb 7, 2023 12:26:30 GMT 1, Iโve seen people complain about the medium, and how far removed it is from Invaders normal practice. I agree that he was always an artist doing things old school, getting his hands dirty doing screenprints, tiles and glue.
But I have to say, when you want to really transfer the look and feel of the Rubikscubism pieces into an edition itโs a really effective way. I do like the Rubikscubism prints heโs done in the past, but I donโt know if they would work on this scale and if I would have preferred them over these. Yes theyโre glossy photoโs, but the actual works are shiny too and you do get the same experience (from what I can tell) as looking at the originals.
The only things they should have done differently, I think, is keeping the cubes 1:1 scale, that would have been so much better. I think Marilyn comes closest to it. Also, a few more image options would have been nice, there are a ton of them that would have made this release a no brainer.

Yes, I meant pretty much what you're saying โ I totally agree that the essence of this kind of work is the way the image fragments when seen close-up and coalesces when viewed from a distance. What I'm saying is that the effect will be lost in any space that doesn't allow the viewer to stand at least around 3m away from the print โ you really need to be at that sort of distance for Camouflage and Marilyn to coalesce. To me, at least, country life never really coalsced fully. Obviously the cube's simplicity reduces the close-up fragmentation significantly, so perhaps that image was chosen specifically to work in smaller spaces.
As you say, it was very interesting to see the extent to which the images coalesced when viewed through the camera.
When I was at the gallery I asked whether they had any more Invader collaborations in the pipeline and they were non-commital. I got the impression they're waiting to see how this one goes.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by its all about me on Feb 7, 2023 14:08:03 GMT 1, These should be treated as photographs - diasec mounted giclee prints with a signed label on the verso. If you go to photo London you will see a lot of this medium. The Virtues were also signed photographs of original paintings. The Empresses could be considered as original art as I believe the only way these image appear is as these prints and are not available in any other medium. If you want to move into photography then buy I agree. My fear would be the current Heni trend for dibond Giclees will not be looked upon favourably in the years to come. Totally agree. Dibond giclees are the very worst possible print releases. People should not be considering these Heni x Invader prints in relation to previous Invader prints. There's simply no comparison.
