Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by stendhal on Apr 5, 2023 14:27:26 GMT 1, At some point, bad taste becomes an art performance in itself. If it is DH intention, he nailed it. Perhaps in 50 years, all this will be fascinating for our grandchildren : « I want to collect all the mistakes of thé previous generations (cars, fast fashion, DH art) just to remember what not to do ever again » So it might get some value then…

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by pamplemousse on Apr 5, 2023 15:49:09 GMT 1, If I had a boss I would've been sacked by now for pratting about with this generator. Still on the fence, I love the concept but do feel like I'm paying the price for a bag of fudge at a pick n mix and getting marshmallows and flying saucers instead.
One thing I've noticed is the jump in size between S, M and L is 75% whereas L and XL is only 40%. So the large is the better buy for me. Whether XL proves to be better on secondary... who knows.
Thoughts on edition size? My guesstimate.
S: circle 2000 square 400 M: circle 1200, square 240 L: circle 800, square 160 XL: circle 600, square 120

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by vvk on Apr 5, 2023 18:11:03 GMT 1, this project is purely Hirst laughing at all the people that laughed at him using "assitants". Not only will you be the assistant making he painting (which is actually a inkjet print) but you will pay for that priivlage. Fraking brilliant. This dude just keeps winning laughing all the way to more castles for his portfolio This is interesting. What's the difference between a Damien Hirst assistant making an artwork and then you getting a signed print of it...and an AI generated Hirst artwork and then you getting a signed print of it? Genuine question. I'm trying to work out the answer. its no surprise that assistants make up the work, all of currency was made by others, but signed by hirst. the difference is a assistant gets paid. and in this case you are paying to be a assistant. This project is more about the signature then it is about the "artwork" what is stopping you/us from taking a screen grab of the image and making your own printed canvas at the local copy shop? if you like the spin you made, save yourself a few thousand dollars and print one at the copy shop or online.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by Crime in the City on Apr 5, 2023 19:03:56 GMT 1, That was me, but you probably know that, and you should know that that’s not what was said. Incase you don’t, I said the talk here about the user input “reminds me of the STIK Stamps discussion recently”. The two are completely different, artists, mediums, price, creation process. Of course. To compare things you need differences, but that’s not what was said. anyway. I think many catapulters will become collectors, most already are (you can see collectors on the forum trying to catapult books etc. for 2x right after release). Most catapulters are collectors but luckily most collectors aren’t catapulters. Yes Stik stamps will sell in the hundreds of thousands one day, maybe tomorrow? but will the beautiful paintings? I am less confident, but to catapult them you simply need others to believe that will happen, which I am more confident in. Excuse me but the translator is what it is. So is my English unfortunately. 🤦 ♂️ I couldn't find the comment and remembered reading it, but not being able to reply at the time. Stik's prints are very nice. Only time will tell if we are right. What do you think about the work Lukas?.. If you had a 'Beautiful Painting' would you keep it or catapult it?

They just be a bit crap and there is nothing you can do? 9i) No right to cancel for Generative Artworks: You can’t change your mind and cancel your purchase of a Generative Artwork because these Artworks are personalised and made to your specification based on parameters chosen by you. The cancellation terms set out in clause 9 a) to h) do not apply to the purchase of a Generative Artwork.

Are you talking about Damien or about Stik?... Look, I'm just telling you this... if I buy something I like, I hardly sell it. If I receive a gift I never recycle it!... Because whoever gave me that item did it with their heart (often). Moral of the story?... I'd buy a catapult!... That's it!... But I'd have to move house first! :-)))
Seriously... I can't afford to buy works... and that's why maybe I'd really like to have them on my wall.

The advice I can dare on this specific work by Damien Hirst is to buy just because you like it. This is an experiment. The digital machine composes the work. You just put the colors. It is a work of art made from Damien's artistic thought... from the user's personal taste in choosing colors and types... and from the digital artificial intelligence that composes the work in a very particular combination. Hirst also signs. You put the money. Digital AI makes itself available... to screw us over a few hundred years into working for it. ;-)

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by ab3 on Apr 6, 2023 10:49:55 GMT 1, Also has there ever been an artists who has released this many unique works in one go?
I saw a rough estimate from pamplemousse (I think) who reckoned that there would be about 5500 of these sold.
If nothing else, to produce that many totally different works of art in one release is pretty spectacular.

The choice of the work generated with artificial support was also made by Felipe Pantone

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by StickOut on Apr 6, 2023 10:55:37 GMT 1, I was hugely sceptical at the start and only saw this as an opportunity to get myself a signed Hirst. However, it was fun creating the patterns, playing with colours to work out what worked well and I even spent some time generating a title. I’m fully aware that I’ve been sucked in by the art equivalent of a casino fruit machine and the Heni Casino have taken my hard earned cash. Through the process though I’ve created something I feel emotionally invested in, which is what art should be, so congratulations to the Hirst ideas team for this idea. II look forward to having my art up on the wall.

What I don't understand is why each generated title starts with the word 'Beautiful', that's a little pointless and saccharine. Why not just have them all unique.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by Timmy on Apr 6, 2023 11:40:52 GMT 1, Intrigued by these but like others... struggling to commit. It is a good opportunity to add a signed Hirst spin to the collection. Personally, I quite like them.
I suppose looking at if from the perspective of the Stik posters that came out with Hackney Today Newspaper, I'd rather a signed one for £400 than an unsigned for £75.
We're basically paying for a signature.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by DB on Apr 6, 2023 15:30:49 GMT 1,
Any excuse to show off my spin painting! I've always loved the tondo/circle spins but have to say I equally love the square format! I'll be going to Heni tomorrow to check the spins.. unlikely that I'll end up purchasing one of these prints as I'm extremely lucky to already own an original. If i didn't I'd be very tempted because I see Hirst spins as iconic as spots.
