Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by aclondon on Apr 4, 2023 14:01:06 GMT 1, just been at the Heni gallery in London, to check the works. They are pretty nice and the quality of the colour is good in my opinion. I suggest to go at least for the 70cm size, the others are too small.
I have the impression that those works will do extremely well on the secondary market. At the end of the day those are unique works (not edition of 500, ..)

Not for me but good luck to everybody going for one!

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by nobokov on Apr 4, 2023 15:18:22 GMT 1, Interesting to view as a precursor to this current project... The above Christies auction lot states: 'stamped with the artist's signature and inscription 'This painting was made by Dave to celebrate the opening of Damien Hirst, Requiem, at the Pinchuk Art Centre on April 25-26th 2009 Damien Hirst'' "During the first two days of the exhibition, visitors were invited to create their own works of art using the machine. Hirst and several studio assistants were on hand to help, and the completed works were stamped..." (Quote from Rago Auction House on the event, not above link) So, made by Dave, enabled and endorsed by Hirst and his 'machine' (and subsequently sold as a Hirst)
So, how many paintings did you make Dave and can you make me one too ?

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by its all about me on Apr 4, 2023 18:24:51 GMT 1, I have to admit, I'm not all that keen on the actual artworks but I do like the conceptual side of things. I like the questions it poses...
Authenticity. Is it art or isn't it art? Does it become art simply because it is signed and authorised by Damien Hirst?
Authorship. Is it a Damien Hirst artwork, my artwork or a nameless computer who is the artist here?
Generation of image. Is it of less value because a computer has generated the random image rather than the random image having been created by thrown paint on a spinning surface? Is one necessarily better than the other?
Reference to art history. Is this a modern take on Marcel Duchamp and his 'bottle rack' and urinal'? Is it art because an artist says it is art? I think it was Joseph Beuys who said "Everyone is an artist". Is Hirst saying that it is true and now everyone can be an artist for a couple of thousand dollars. Is this finally the democratisation of art?
We live in interesting times.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by jfox789 on Apr 4, 2023 21:58:07 GMT 1, Im super on the fence with these. I like the image, but Hist's past large releases are hit and miss. Cherry Blossoms did well, Currency did well, and Emporesses didn't do well.
I know everyone is going to say buy the work you like but I also dont want to buy something that isn't going to do well. $3K for a signed Hirst, I'm on the fence.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by jjpopup on Apr 4, 2023 22:15:19 GMT 1, The cherry blossoms were dismissed, only for those who boo-hooโd them to get egg on their face when the secondary market exploded, and still is. Everyone then jumped on the Empresses and expected the same thing only for it to be a flop. The spins are a nice idea, and will do well.
the simple fact is, everyone will still enter the competition to win a spin - regardless.

I appreciate and agree with your points regarding authenticity, authorship, and a willingness to be open to change/evolution/broadening of art.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by larsson on Apr 5, 2023 4:12:09 GMT 1, Just thought I'd share that HENI / Hirst are running a competition to boost awareness of this time limited self generated 'Spin Painting' release.
10 Winners appear to get a painting created by Hirst himself - rather one you've knocked up yourself online.
The odds on winning will no doubt be long, but hey it's free to enter so there is that.
Cheers, Larsson

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by lukas01 on Apr 5, 2023 7:12:15 GMT 1, Someone on the previous pages compared two totally different things. The Stik printing process is very different. In that case he used a mold and some ink. The kids just stepped on the silhouette. They have generated the differences between one silhouette and another making them all unique. Very lucky owners!... One of the most requested jobs of tomorrow!... And few collectors who have it available!... Too bad someone is already catapulting it now! Catapulting today for a few thousand pounds? Tomorrow they will sell for hundreds of thousands! Will someone who catapults sooner or later become a collector?
Very interesting children's laboratory (Stik-Southbank Centre) work process.

That was me, but you probably know that, and you should know that thatโs not what was said. Incase you donโt, I said the talk here about the user input โreminds me of the STIK Stamps discussion recentlyโ.
The two are completely different, artists, mediums, price, creation process. Of course. To compare things you need differences, but thatโs not what was said. anyway.
I think many catapulters will become collectors, most already are (you can see collectors on the forum trying to catapult books etc. for 2x right after release).
Most catapulters are collectors but luckily most collectors arenโt catapulters.
Yes Stik stamps will sell in the hundreds of thousands one day, maybe tomorrow?
but will the beautiful paintings? I am less confident, but to catapult them you simply need others to believe that will happen, which I am more confident in.

There's also some interesting texts on the development of the algorithms, etc, that generate the artworks.
