I did a lot of research on the Dali print market, love Dali and really wanted to start stocking his works more regularly but the Dali print market is a minefield, huge amounts of fakes, he signed thousands of pieces of print paper which were later printed, lots sold dubiously on cruiseship auctions with coas, the number prints dali produced is insane, the number of Banksy prints is tiny.
I do love Dali and im certainly not suggesting theres anything wrong with the sellers piece just talking about comparing the 2 markets at this stage, of course nobody knows what the future holds

The lithograph comes with the COA and Original receipt from the Gallery it was bought and also with a copy of the pages where is mentioned - page 133 and shown in the Salvador Dali, Das druckgraphische Werk, Bd.2, Oeuvrekatalog der Lithographien und Holzstiche 1956-1980 Gebundene Ausgabe โ 1995von Salvador Dalรญ (Autor), Ralf Michler (Autor), Lutz W. Best to deal with a well known reputable dealer when it comes to his items. You may pay more but will have peace of mind and recourse if ever need be

I have seen many of his prints with different stamps on the back and on the bottom of prints. I do believe that there are a lot of dodgy items out there. I had the same experience with some Calder prints recently. What I have found is asking any questions causes a lot of people to suddenly lose interest in selling to you, which I assume at least means they are suspect.

It is rumored that more than 80% of the pieces in circulation are fakes. Refer to Albert Field, he is the one person in the world with the knowledge you are looking for. His book, "The Official Catalog of the Graphic Works of Salvador Dali" is a bit on the expensive side but it will save you $$$$ down the road. The information you are seeking in reference to every individual piece Dali has ever made, can be found there. Good Luck |

He's one of the world's leaders in Dali authentication and I was put on to him by some big auction houses.

It can save you a lot of money in errors. Fields is the only catalogue worth having. I would avoid the galleries thats say they specialise in Dali prints if they are also involved in printing their own catalogue of expertise for Dali.
I personally would avoid Park West gallery of ship auctions fame and wasn't Bernard Ewell authenticating for them or was it someone else?
Don't get drawn into buying from any gallery who tell you you are buying an investment.
The Albaretto Dali's prints have been alledged to be fakes.
Also not all theplates that were used to print Dali's have been destroyed and reprints have been produced.
You have to know your paper as certain paper was used and fakes have been printed on the wrong paper. and the Albert Fields raisonnรฉe has all the info.
Genuine Dali prints do come up from time to time and the best way is to take your time and learn and don't part with money too quickly.
Authentication is not impossible if you have the right information at hand.
I don't know if Dali.com is good but they have the complete list and images of Dali prints on their site.
