Where the Land Meets the Sea
HENI is delighted to present ’Where the Land Meets the Sea’, an application based drop featuring works from Damien Hirst’s ’Coast Paintings’, ’Sea Paintings’ and ’Seascapes’ series, which have never been exhibited before. All the paintings are oil on canvas, hand-signed by the artist and numbered on the verso.
’Coast Paintings’ is a series of abstract action paintings named after British seaside locations that Hirst developed while painting his acclaimed Cherry Blossoms series. ’Sea Paintings’ marks the latest iteration in Hirst’s long-established practice of producing paintings after photographs, and freezes in greyscale the power and energy of coastal storms. ’Seascapes’ uses the photorealistic scenes of ’Sea Paintings’ as the basis onto which Hirst creates additional and tactile layers of action through splattered paint.
To coincide with the drop, HENI presents an exhibition of 'Where the Land Meets the Sea' at Phillips’ London galleries. The exhibition features a selection of works from the ’Coast Paintings’, ’Sea Paintings’ and ’Seascapes’ series at Phillips’ London galleries on Berkeley Square, from 20 July to 18 August 2023. A catalogue of the complete series will be available. The exhibition is being presented with the support of the artist’s galleries, Gagosian and White Cube.
Applications can be made through this website from 20 July when the exhibition in Phillips commences. To register your interest, sign up to our newsletter to be kept up to date with ’Where the Land Meets the Sea’, and other HENI updates.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Inknart on Jul 3, 2023 16:47:29 GMT 1, Shouldn't everyone on this Planet have a Hirst by now that wants one ? At which point does this market of his become "Saturated?"
Guy releases more prints and originals than kaws does open edition vinyl.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Georgie Poppit on Jul 3, 2023 18:56:03 GMT 1, I saw the Heni Brian Clarke prints in Soho last week. I have to say this Ctrl-P approach to printing is just lazy money making. They look cheap and awful. How poor Brian let Heni represent his work so badly is beyond me. I’d be amazed if they’ve sold any.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by elzerman on Jul 4, 2023 11:34:36 GMT 1, Kudos to Damien for being 100% honest about the fact that these are made by assistants. But in this case it really makes his artistry seem very unimpressive. The idea here is basically to find photographs that someone else has taken and then have someone else make a perfect copy of that using paint and then sign it off as yours. I usually respect and admire DHs projects as innovative and challenging but this is just a lazy cash grab trying to sell something that should have stayed in the studio. Starting to feel like a part of a contract fulfillment. Reminds me of the record industry where artists will put just about any shit out there just to get rid of a bad record label agreement (been there done that;).

Reminds me of the record industry where artists will put just about any shit out there just to get rid of a bad record label agreement (been there done that;). I don't think that's quite true. As far as I can make out, these are paintings by his assistants but then Damien comes along afterwards and splatters them with his own splashes of paint. To be fair, I think that makes them a cheap version of a Damien Hirst original. How 'cheap' they actually are however, remains to be seen.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by elzerman on Jul 4, 2023 12:58:46 GMT 1, That’s true for one of these. but one of the series is “just” the paintings made by assistants. Another one is copies of those with paint thrown on them by DH. The third is the floor.
