Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by robo on Aug 10, 2023 14:39:16 GMT 1, any forecast on edition size? I guess in the 500 for the h13 1-2-3-4 and much less for others These open editions always sell >1,000 each and I don’t think this will be different, despite the views of the minority audience here (including me). The release has been promoted heavily at a highly visible London show alongside $100k+ works and to the audience for those works, they’ve spent a fortune on targeted social media ads (its all over my socials at least), and the Philips audience (plus many galleries) will not hesitate to buy multiple complete sets.

I think sometimes uaa members think it’s just us and our opinions, but you are spot on we are only a tiny slice of the art world and there will sadly still be a lot of sales for this release and the next, and the next and the next …….

The market is in horrific shape. Anyone who is well versed in it would be very weary of such a large outlay on poor images. I've said it in relation to other releases, but I think that HENI and Hirst will be humbled by the sales figures. I await them with baited breath and hope that they will drive them away from shiny finishing and towards the creation of a more higher-end product.

Clueless tbh, but I would not be surprised if the majority of them end up being editions of 200-300. Best case scenario for HENI right now would be to sell 50% of the volume from The Virtues and I do not see it happening at all.

I also loved what he said on instagram about the photorealistic seascapes which made me appreciate them much more than I did. The dibonds are terrible though. Wouldn’t go anywhere near them

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by stendhal on Aug 11, 2023 8:31:27 GMT 1, At some point, when a guy releases so much editions of poor quality (for a lot of them), low edition numbers is not a guarantee of value for the future. Only question to me is your valuation of intrinsic quality of the works. On these ones, there is very little chance that there will be high numbers : size, price, release in august, lack of enthusiasm…

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by cryptoowly on Aug 11, 2023 11:48:09 GMT 1, It's hard to know how big Hirsts market actually is, other than to know it's big. If you sell based on time limited demand then surplus demand is entirely attributable to flippers. You can argue that the current state of the market will remedy or greatly reduce this issue, in which case it just comes down to whether you like the art or not. I think these are quite compelling. Agree it will be interesting to see final numbers.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by its all about me on Aug 11, 2023 19:22:29 GMT 1, You know, I am beginning to feel quite sorry for Damien Hirst. The capitalist scum at Heni are now forcing him to sign posters 24-hours a day squeezing every last cent they can out of him before they put him out with the trash. They don't even allow him to wear clothes anymore. (I would post the actual video but I don't know how)

It'd be nice in a guest bedroom and at least he signed it on the front instead of a sticker on the back that'll age and peel off over time.

It’s a bizarre way to manage an artistic career Making fucking boat loads of money. they’ve sold hundreds of millions of dollars worth of a kit of his in the last few years and they’re just one of his galleries. Hirst is a billionaire no doubt. There is literally no one better at making money from art, not necessarily best for his collectors but he’s long past needing to care about that.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by The Greased Piglet on Aug 12, 2023 20:36:11 GMT 1, What is cool and weird about Hirsts market is that literally someone on minimum wage could save up and buy a Hirst edition right up to a Billionaire buying a canvas. I can’t think of any artist who can do that and could put out so much stock and still be able to keep selling it. It defies logic, whether he’s able to keep up the alchemy remains to be seen.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by cryptoowly on Aug 12, 2023 20:46:46 GMT 1, That's the alchemy right there. You know he's big, controversial, loved, hated. He ticks the box. The artistic persona box. Bigger the better.
Mostly, he's aspirational. To everyone. It keeps the wheels going. Why segment your target audience. Broader the appeal the better. As you say.
What's interesting is his reach might be broadening. He's becoming less niche and conceptual and perhaps more mass market. Cherry blossoms. Waves. But then there is the currency. NFTs.
The subject matter is broad. The target market is broad and his brand is broad. Win win win.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by robo on Aug 12, 2023 20:54:21 GMT 1, It’s become a fairly standard practice for artists to sell at all possible price points. I think one of the first proponents was Takashi Murakami who famously sold everything from paintings and sculptures to prints to key rings and pencil cases.
