The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by My Name is Frank on Jan 23, 2024 10:04:25 GMT 1, acquired, adj. Gained; obtained or secured, esp. through concerted effort or over a period of time; (of a characteristic, etc.) developed without intent, picked up.
I think acquired directly from the artist covers gift. Elton performed at the walled off Hotel and was gifted this, so picked it up/ secured it through the concerted effort of performing at Banksy's hotel. Acquired is a perfect word. There may be some tax issues with the description being gifted maybe?
The 2017 date on the canvas appears to give creedance to the typo by a junior reasoning.
Hopefully now we can now all move on.
FWIW - I do rather like your postings minecrafter, but would prefer that mods simply set up a minecrafter responds section for me to dip into with a link to the thread you are responding to.

Well, "Love is in the bin" had a backstory saying it was gifted and I'm pretty sure other original gifts were also declared as such.
With the seller being Elton John it obviously makes the item more interesting , why, for example, doesn't it have a "thanks Elton " or something similar written on it (like other gifts usually do ).
We wouldn't have questions if not so many were left - and we get attacked for legit questions. If people can't answer the question, then they shouldn't say anything and not come in with personal attacks from anonymous accounts. THAT is trolling.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by My Name is Frank on Jan 23, 2024 15:21:23 GMT 1, I didnt think I was trolling, just answering the question. To answer the next set, if you are a volunteer called Chris, it would be great if Banksy said to chris, thanks Banksy. Not sure Reg would be so star struck, the present is fine.
My name is genuinely Frank by the way, hope that answered the next question.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by Minecrafter on Jan 23, 2024 16:30:22 GMT 1, Update:
Christie's wrote back , the piece comes with a COA and "isn't necessarily a gift" , that's why it's not declared as one. Which I'm taking that they basically don't know.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by Minecrafter on Jan 23, 2024 20:37:10 GMT 1, Why does someone with a net worth of ยฃ500 million need to sell a gift ? And if the piece was a gift for playing at the opening at the walled off, why not give it that backstory so Palestine and what happens there is mentioned and in the spotlight ? Why not give the money to Palestine ? I've read Elton John is actually a supporter of Israel, maybe that's why.
Meanwhile, the road sign is still missing, no news on the people they arrested even though the bail would have expired by now. That sign could have been auctioned for charity for Palestine, too. Instead they closed their hotel and I doubt it will ever open again.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by Minecrafter on Jan 23, 2024 20:54:12 GMT 1, This is an interesting video, notice how the reporter doesn't even wear a bullet proof vest. No way would Israel let Palestinians earn money of these artworks. It's obvious Israel / IDF was aware of Banksy painting there . Permission granted.
It's disgusting to have made a fortune of the back of such suffering. Shame on the whole firm.
I also wonder if all the hotels in the West Bank did shut ? Or just the cowardly Banksy ?

Notice how the first words in the clip are 'lost their homes in last year's brutal war'. The video is dated April 1, 2015 - no fools here. Maybe.
The intense fighting was in 2014, starting July 11 and lasting until a ceasefire was declared on 26 August 2014.
Perhaps the journalist didn't feel the need for a bulletproof vest some seven months after that conflict had ended.
Granted, reporting in an occupied territory could always carry potential risk but assessments are constantly carried out by the news agencies in these areas.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by drip on Jan 24, 2024 0:26:16 GMT 1, I say this with love, but take a step back for a moment and imagine, hypothetically, going to a therapist and telling them that the world famous street artist, Banksy, is out to ruin your life. That you're at war, your term for it, with Banksy, and that you're going to destroy him. Bring him down. That you're also going to bring down the major auction houses of the world too.
After that, IF they allow you to leave their office, imagine returning the following week and revealing to them that Sir Elton John is also involved.
I'm not even saying you're wrong, I'm just saying I've worked with a lot of therapists over the years, good ones, and they would NOT be happy with this thread. They'd be very upset and shaking their heads at this, and they're not supposed to shake their heads in the sessions.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by drip on Jan 24, 2024 0:55:32 GMT 1, Is now a good time to remind folk that, while we like to engage in a bit of banter on here, and lord knows social media isn't for the faint of heart, you never truly know what someone's going through, or what their financial or mental position is (mine's doggy).
There's never any need to make things personal on here, we're all just nerds and anoraks talking about pictures, and we're all here for the same reason - because our partners don't understand us.
Right, back to the art.

Why would the reporter have needed a bullet proof vest ? It wasn't an active war zone.. just your average open air prison within a open for prison and as you're fully aware, the British reporter would be there on permits. She's not a local that they will blow up and pretend it's Hamas.
As for the hotel, I doubt its a tourist destination atm.. you get enough grief travelling over there in normal times.. without there being all the stuff that's going on now.

We must be watching different videos, it literally shared some facts and a video of someone in a tunnel. Yes, Robin/the painter did use a tunnel as you can't get in or out of Gaza without a permit.

She didn't need a bullet proof vest but Banksy did need to enter through illegal tunnels. Banksy played it like you need a tank to be safe there. We must be watching different videos, it literally shared some facts and a video of someone in a tunnel. Yes, Robin/the painter did use a tunnel as you can't get in or out of Gaza without a permit. Your answer may look good to someone who doesn't know the real truth about Banksy and Israel, but to us it looks like you're defending a fraud.

I'm responding directly to the content of your post to me. I'm not defending a fraud by sharing non truths.. just replying with facts.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by Deleted on Jan 24, 2024 10:49:20 GMT 1, Why would the reporter have needed a bullet proof vest ? It wasn't an active war zone.. just your average open air prison within a open for prison and as you're fully aware, the British reporter would be there on permits. She's not a local that they will blow up and pretend it's Hamas. As for the hotel, I doubt its a tourist destination atm.. you get enough grief travelling over there in normal times.. without there being all the stuff that's going on now. She didn't need a bullet proof vest but Banksy did need to enter through illegal tunnels. Banksy played it like you need a tank to be safe there. If you and your husband put this energy into JPS instead of Banksy things would be much better for yous. This is clearly unhealthy. People that care about yous that know about this campaign of self destruction need to have caring word. Anyone who tells you to keep it up isn't a friend. Forget Banksy exists, focus on JPS.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by drip on Jan 24, 2024 11:35:55 GMT 1, Don't really know what to answer, but seems like everyone here couldn't care less about Palestine. I have a feeling my therapist would say that's deflection, possibly projection, and also, sir, this is a Wendy's.
If ALL Banksy has ever done, is send a few of us muppets over there, and temporarily increase local taxi rides and falafel sales, IF that's all he's done for the ordinary Palestinians, then it'll still be more than the vast majority of us will ever do.
And even then, it still wouldn't be fair to say folk on here couldn't care less about Palestine.
If your argument is that Banksy used the Palestinian crisis as some sort of prop to promote his own work (which I don't personally believe to be the case. It would've been far easier and safer to work with Dogs Trust); if, IF that was even true, then Banksy's still done more to help in that region than the vast majority, and certainly among artists.
A road sign with drones on it was never, sadly, going to be a workable roadmap to a peaceful two-state solution.
