The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by Jules Leotard on Feb 23, 2024 18:57:20 GMT 1, Very strange direction this forum is going. It's what happens when governments cut funding to mental health services. More people buy art. Phew! That excludes me. I buy less art.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by LJCal on Feb 23, 2024 23:54:27 GMT 1, If you or I asked then highly likely the answer would be no. If Madonna or Bill Gates asked then I expect he would. Anyone know whether it was ever confirmed that Banksy painted that portrait of Madonna for her birthday? Or was it just someone who said they were Banksy? I hope to see it some day. Only heard rumours, although I have on good authority that she and Guy Ritchie have some pretty special pieces of his.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by Jules Leotard on Feb 27, 2024 2:04:13 GMT 1, So you are saying capitalism came between? In society you mean or in the team? best to let it go I feel that this thread is about to go on another interesting tangent that we can all explore. To me, it feels that a large part of the art business is simply a game. If a person or group has enough money to back them, it is very similar to the stock market.
Drive the prices up - sell to the wannabees. Drive the prices down - buy the same art back. Repeat cycle.
Fun article regarding art today (excerpted):
Which is exactly what happened when Queen Elizabeth passed away in 2022. So overall, William inherited quite a bit more than Harry. But this $1 billion estate is nothing compared to the $10 billion that King Charles received tax free, thanks to a clever investment by the Queen into one of the worldโs most exclusive asset classes โฆ fine art. The Royal family has been investing a portion of their fortune into art for centuries

I think many of the rich invest a lot of money in art. Which may not be odd as tax law includes an art exemption for art used only for personal purposes, like art you use as decoration in your home. Is that good? For the artist maybe, but I donโt think it is, cause itโs another a way to increase someoneโs assets. I see what youโre saying though, although it sometimes may be a mystery why an artist creates a work artists and the rich have the same interest in it.
So headline of that article โArt is not a business, itโs a gameโ?
