Banksy & Ken Livingstone, by Rude Copper on Apr 23, 2008 14:32:09 GMT 1, Plus london has to somehow fund the 2012 olympics so any vote for boris because of 'unfair' taxes is sorely deluded. Whatever government is in charge will introduce a whole range of new taxes and money pinching methods to milk the working person in london for as much as they can.
we are going to have to fund the olympics because the estimate of ยฃ2.8b is short by...............ยฃ5-6b!!!!!!!!!!
boris's fault?

Banksy & Ken Livingstone, by richy00 on Apr 23, 2008 14:40:39 GMT 1, what we DO need is a tory government... i am very f**ked off about the 10p tax band removal, im on placement in london next year and its going to cost me a good few grand. plus kens s**tty congestion charge, the s**t rules on london students oyster cards, the stupidness that on paying back a student loan the government keep all out repayments in a nice big back account that we pay in monthy and then they pay it to the studentsloans company at the end of the year having earned a good packet of interest. . Don't come to London, request your placement elsewhere that will save you money And as for the student loan scenario this was something put into place by the tories and I would imagine that you don't have intimate details of how the system works. Who covers all the students who fail/avoid to re-pay their loans? Should this be the taxpayer?
the repament system was introduced by labour, as it stands the taxpayer does cover for unpaid loans i suppose. i dont agree with the loans system as it stands anyway, i think it should all be scrapped and you pay it yourself. i used to live in the middle east and much prefere the system there, no tax.. you get what you pay for.

Banksy & Ken Livingstone, by onemandown72 on Apr 23, 2008 15:20:53 GMT 1, to be honest at the moment Labour / Conservative same people different labels. Politics has long since moved away from definative left/right positions on the political spectrum and is now just about celebrity. Politicians have long since been the powerbrokers in this country, and all they have succeeded in doing is alienating the general public with their self seeking behaviour. Real power for change lies with non-elected bodies as they haven't the restrictions of transparency that the government has. And this means relying on those in such positions having a decent moral compass and a desire to force change for the good.

And Silky's quote of taking 5 years to get over what Labour have done! Un-fucking believable! It took Labour 10 years to get over what the Tories had done to this country under that fucking bitch Thatcher and the rest of those twats. Rudecopper you obviously don't know what it was like under the Tories otherwise you wouldn't spout such crap. And if you think students are going to be better under the Tories you are in for a big fucking shock. Besides the Wars Blair took us into Labour has done a huge amount to turn this country around and as someone who has worked in the NHS for over 20 years let me tell you things are a lot better now, and that includes pay, equipment and service. I know some of you have got some horror story about the NHS but for each one of them there is a thousand good stories. I can't believe people are bigging up the Tories, if you are, you are either to young to know what it was like then, have a poor memory or have always been a Tory. Go and ask the families of the Miners what it was like. FUCK THE TORIES AND EVERYONE INVOLVED WITH THEM.

unfortunately, i remember the mess this country was in, in the late 70's under labour, we were economically retarded, & you could argue that the tories spent their 1st term undoing all the bad work then as well, as i said, i dont have a particular affinity to any one party, but i do recognise when someone is making a fucking shambles of it, & that is right here & right now, this government is past its sell by date, by about 4 years.

Banksy & Ken Livingstone, by funyoung on Apr 24, 2008 10:56:25 GMT 1, I'll be voting for Brian Padd**k as 1st choice, then Ken. Anything to keep Johnson out. Anyone actually read his proposals. No fcuking idea what he's on about. Ignorant misogynistic p*ick
Nice way of wasting your vote and effectively voting for Ken. If you vote Ken second then you are voting for him. This is a two horse race where the second votes count as much as the first. Do not vote Ken second if you don't want him. Leave blank if you must. (Same goes for Boris other way round if you must) People have to realise that putting someone second by way of 'protest' is the same as voting for them first when it comes to who wins in this race.
Another few points: 1. It is a mayoral election, not governement. Though the two are inter-linked, what is good for one is not necessarily good for the other. 2. The 'Londoner' is a newspaper wholly controlled by the Mayor of London office. How can it not be in the Mayors power to close this propaganda waste of money down? 3. A lot of people here are suggesting that they would not vote for an Etonian. Why? Chip on your shoulder? Immensely clever chap with a 'bumbling' media persona. Do not be fooled. 4. And anti-graffiti stance. What do expect? A Mayoral candidate to support criminal damage/vandalism? Anyone who votes against Boris as a result of this policy is very silly IMO.

He went to Eton. He had a very good education. Sounds good so far. He went to Oxford. Because he was clever. Because he is more clever than many others I would prefer him in power. Makes sense really.
Putting others down on account of their perceived 'class' is very tiresome. Usually a product of the oversized 'chip' on their shoulder.

I made no assumptions about you or who you are.
Rather than 'worry' about why Eton/Oxford produce the political elite and assume it is a 'closed shop', I would rather assume that there may be more to it. Maybe because educationally they are doing a bloody good job? It is very easy for people to assume that everyone else is getting a leg up when they are looking up from below. With that viewpoint it is very difficult to appreciate the amount of hard work being put in.
Shoot down the theory if you must ...

Eton good education - surely a matter of opinion as to whether what is taught at Eton is relevant to running London. Oxford shows he is a capable academic, does not show that he has any appreciation for dealign with day to day real issues that affect individuals from a hugely disparate background.
London is a huge melting pot, and not a microcosm of privilege that Eton and Oxford are.
And no chip on my shoulder, from a well educated and comfortable background.

Now you come to mention it however: I don't see how it can have done him any harm.

Yes, especially the first question because it is about an organisation with thousands of members called, "Mayors for Peace". It is directly relevant to Mayors and not government ministers.
I pray that the buffoon never has the opportunity to join.
Like I said earlier, it is common courtesy to answer a few questions from your electorate.

the fact that they published the results implies that he was asked the questions, no doubt, but do you know why he did'nt reply?. it seems unfair to lambast him without researching the reason for his lack of reply.

I haven't a clue.
