Banksy & Ken Livingstone, by onemandown72 on Apr 24, 2008 19:56:05 GMT 1, Onemandown - you seem to have confused my statement 'putting people down on account of their class is tiresome' for a statement I did not make: 'Oxford and Eton are the ideal education for a mayoral candidate'. Now you come to mention it however: I don't see how it can have done him any harm.
Not confused at all, you made the point of where he was educated. Why bring this up if you weren't using it to promote his suitability for being the Mayor.
Whilst Eton & Oxford show he is academically / conventially clever how this prepares you to run one of the biggest most socially diverse cities in the world is beyond me.

Banksy & Ken Livingstone, by funyoung on Apr 24, 2008 20:35:25 GMT 1, I didn't bring up his education. I did take exception to his being 'ruled out' by virtue of it however.
The city may be diverse but the people running the companies / government are not necessarily though. Being able to integrate and work with them is thus very important. QED.

You're splitting hairs now, and whilst you didn't bring up his education your point was related to how his education has been good groundings for his candidacy. I agree that integration is key in the mayors role. I just don't see Boris being at all transparent about his skills in this area, if he has any at all. In fact unless you know him personally you woudln't have a clue as to whether he is really fit to be mayor. His campaign is totally based on get Ken out rather than what he intends to do

Banksy & Ken Livingstone, by Rude Copper on Apr 24, 2008 23:59:08 GMT 1, having just sat through question time, makes you realise what a tragic affair this election is, boris is a stuttering buffoon, livingstone is all smoke & mirrors, his ability to cherry pick a statistic rather than broach the core issue is astonishing, his lack of shame over his handling of the olympics & his audacious airbrushing of truths is truly staggering, the most plausible candidate is paddick, & in reality, that just aint gonna happen, what a total disaster for london.

Well said RC ,I personally cannot stand KL ,who has become more dictatorial as his term has progressed, but agree that Boris(who is more intelligent than his public appearances suggest)comes across as a buffoon, padd**k is our only surviving honest candidate....sad days.

Banksy & Ken Livingstone, by angryboy on Apr 25, 2008 9:19:03 GMT 1, Quite an interesting little site here if you're unsure were you're views lie, obviously 25 questions aren't the most scientific but gives a idea of what the candidates have said they'll do. I'll be the first to admit I don't read up too much on their suggested policies and would just go with my political inclination, this site suggested I was going the correct way anyway based on their policies and my views. That didn't seem to be the case for most people at work who did it though, lots of would be Ken voters saying they agree more with Boris and vice-versa.

Banksy & Ken Livingstone, by They call me Stephen on Apr 25, 2008 10:18:01 GMT 1, i know it's a total wasted vote but seeing as i dont personally want any of these people in office im tempted not to vote at all.
ken has lied, gone back on his word and made a number of blundering errors
boris would be a step backwards in my opinion....the man has a pr team correcting his every blunder
wish there was a box for 'none of the above'

There is, you can spoil your paper. Which you should always do rather than sit on your arse going 'oh i don't like any of the candidates'. It's your duty to get to the ballot box and express some kind of opinon. Otherwise you've no right to moan when things go tits up.

I agree. At least go - then spoil the paper. They are also counted. Imagine a ballot if more papers were spoilt than cast...?

Another vote for ballot spoiling the realisation that they get counted is what got me (not) voting again. I'm also firmly of the opinion that this is why we will never have a "none of the above" option because if none of the above received more votes than the candidates then that's who'd be in office, no-one.

Banksy & Ken Livingstone, by onemandown72 on Apr 25, 2008 11:58:16 GMT 1, Definately go and spoil your paper. We can vote in this country and so should always do so. If you didn't have the choice how would you feel.
