The Banksy Archive of Steve Lazarides, by Dice on Oct 15, 2024 8:41:05 GMT 1, I think most of the valuations are way under! Especially the prints. Are you kidding? If you buy one of these and then try to sell it you will run into serious difficulties. No auction house except Tate/julians etc will take it and on the private market no one in their right mind will buy a Banksy print without a pest control COA.
It’s different for ephemera. A laz certificate is quite welcome for tenners, flyers etc as these can’t get COA’s so it’s better than nothing.
I’m sure they will sell some to less knowledgable buyers, who will probably apply for a COA later only to be turned down.

The Banksy Archive of Steve Lazarides, by Minecrafter on Oct 15, 2024 8:42:32 GMT 1, Banksy has long being caught out of being a fraud and his little company pest control made falsely dated COAs. Is Lazarides trustlevel obtained from working with a known hack till 2008? The whole lot of this could be fake and copies, it's not authenticated , plain and simple. Who would you suggest could offer the strongest and most trusted COA? How can you authenticate 20 years of false narratives and greed? Pretty simple, you can't. If the larger public knew the entire truth about the characters that formed this cash grab then it would all be in the bin.

Your obsession with Banksy is absolutely mental. Is your husband the same? If so your household must be a fun place. If not and it’s you that’s so obsessed I think if I were him I’d have to sit you down and check that everything’s ok. If I were Jps I would have wanted to move on by now and if my wife kept going on about it I’d think ffs just leave it..of course that’s just me and he might be quite happy to hold a grudge until the day he dies as well yourself. Occasionally pointing out facts on a forum is not obsession. All types of charlatans get exposed on the forum and it's reminded whenever their names resurface.......why should your precious banksy be exempt?

Yeh it strange that banksy gets a few mentions on the banksy forum, strange that. You’re of course welcome to post whatever you like on an open forum, I am merely pointing out that you tend to repeat the same things over and over and over. This to me would be concerning in the same way if anyone I know became this obsessive about something or someone in such a negative way. In your own mind you probably feel that you are part of the downturn in his market when in reality you are likely to have had zero impact. The market in most things has turned including 95% of artists. I can assure you this has nothing to do with it being banksy that your issue is with I would find your behaviour strange if it was any other artist, it’s just eat, sleep, rave, repeat… Anyway for your sake and yourself & your husbands sanity I hope one day you manage to move on.. Peace..

The Banksy Archive of Steve Lazarides, by gvdfrance on Oct 15, 2024 9:02:40 GMT 1, Buying & Selling, isn't that what a part of the art world is. Everyone in any show on tv for eg - antiques roadshow, is the hope that you have something that is worth a lot of cash. Whether one likes Steve's idea to sell, or not, what would you do if you were him? Never sell? Keep everything in your basement? I doubt it...

The Banksy Archive of Steve Lazarides, by Daniel Silk on Oct 15, 2024 9:33:18 GMT 1, I think Steve Lazarides did an incredible job promoting Banksy during his time as Manager, ok he might not be everyone's cup of tea, but for the position, I think he's perfect.

I expect there will be a follow-up auction with a t-shirt that smells of Banksy’s aftershave, cigarette butts with his DNA and a napkin from their first date at a local Wimpy.

Art was mostly for the wealthy, that all changed. All the while struggling with his mind

The Banksy Archive of Steve Lazarides, by hdduyddfj on Oct 15, 2024 14:46:09 GMT 1, With the burner phones and domain registration it looks to be the end of the Banksy journey for Laz. Sad ending in a way, an auction at Juliens, but if it does well I'm sure he'll get over it. Regardless of what people think of Laz he was side by side with the artist during what was arguably Banksys golden era. He's a significant part of the early Banksy story. Not many can say that.

The Banksy Archive of Steve Lazarides, by GuywBalloon on Oct 15, 2024 15:14:58 GMT 1, I watched the 30 minute documentary about the auction and the stories behind some of the pieces, would recommend for a quick watch if you haven't done so. The part that jumped out that I don't believe to be brought up thus far is the "250 rolls of film/ 10,000 shots" that is being auctioned off. Steve states " some portraits, in focused shots and him working." I could be wrong, but it seems that he could potentially be auctioning off Banksy's identity. Starts at 26:45 of the video if you want to skip. Thoughts?

I doubt any of the photos will show Banksy's face, and Steve would have digitised all the good shots anyway. I imagine you could own the negatives but have no right to use them for anything.

He told us about bipolar and if Steve was Banksy? I love the topic I think he will fill his pockets, I hope he will do a very good deed. In any case, he gave me his book at the time. He sent me a DM message send me your address I never thought he was going to do it and he does it. The problem is not COA the guy who stole the dish doesn't have COA and? Good evening everyone Good luck to those who can have a piece from Banksy's collection, I don't have the means to give the money time.

The Banksy Archive of Steve Lazarides, by LJCal on Oct 16, 2024 2:42:49 GMT 1, The values are off for most of these but some things to consider: - Pest control as an authentication body won't be around forever in fact as things stand I'd say their end could be sooner rather than later - Some of these items are far rarer and special than a run of the mill unsigned print, they're generally one off in some cases - Whatever people's feeling Laz was Bansky's dealer for most of his early career so his provenance is bullet proof. - I've seen so many howlers from PCO recently I wouldn't always place 100% confidence in their records and authentication (DN3 anyone?), the market will very soon start to look for alternatives (nature hates a void) and I feel these type of items will start finding their way into mainstream sales sooner than some people think. - PCO is almost unique in the control they exert over auction houses, but now works are selling for 1/4 of their value 3 years ago don't be surprised if that stranglehold weakens.
I've got no skin in the game, most of this I agree is too expensive to warrant waiting for the way Banksy works are sold to change. There are a handful of items that peak my interest but most sit at or below low estimate. Still estimates aside a very cool collection.

if you manage to get one of these prints into a major auction house without a COA that is a game changer. Suddenly it will have a further authentication of sorts.
However when is that going to happen? Will it ever happen? No one knows. The auction houses seem to have a relationship with pest control at the moment and they wouldn’t want to jeopardise that in any way.
Its a punt isn’t it. The problem is at these estimate it’s a very expensive punt.
Personally I wouldn’t buy a 30k print without a COA, for me the Laz authentication is not bullet proof and represents a risk should you ever need to sell as a huge proportion of the buying market at least in the near future will be wanting pest control.
The values are off for most of these but some things to consider: - Pest control as an authentication body won't be around forever in fact as things stand I'd say their end could be sooner rather than later - Some of these items are far rarer and special than a run of the mill unsigned print, they're generally one off in some cases - Whatever people's feeling Laz was Bansky's dealer for most of his early career so his provenance is bullet proof. Agreed for the most part. if you manage to get one of these prints into a major auction house without a COA that is a game changer. Suddenly it will have a further authentication of sorts. However when is that going to happen? Will it ever happen? No one knows. The auction houses seem to have a relationship with pest control at the moment and they wouldn’t want to jeopardise that in any way. Its a punt isn’t it. Absolutely agree. I think the sweet spot for most of these prints is £5-20k for hardcore collectors with deep pockets. It’s absolutely a punt, it could be 2-20 years before PCO are disbanded (it’s when not if IMO) and by which time there’s a chance Banksy prints aren’t as collectible. The provenance is bullet proof in the sense your buying what is described but yes that doesn’t mean it will allow you to sell at a major auction house until things change.

The Banksy Archive of Steve Lazarides, by Shoot Again on Oct 16, 2024 13:56:03 GMT 1, One point that hasn't been mentioned so far (which puzzled me, to say the least, when watching the promotional video) is the condition of some of those collectibles ;-) I mean the way SL manipulates them (not to speak about how / where they were kept in storage for so long) : scary ! I agree we're not talking of Picasso and gloves should be required but still, not sure I could (pretend to) ignore the condition of some of those ... especially at those chunky prices ;-)
