Campbarbossa Gallery, by crazyarsemother on Nov 25, 2008 11:52:38 GMT 1, The more I paint the more I am impressed by other painters who can push and explore the medium and produce different effects. IMO I have not seen any of his work in the flesh but his use of colour is fantastic and his images hold a resinous and endurance. What is also very impressive and I think a good sign of an integral artist is that he divides the camp with no fear. He is not reproducing tired ideas or elements and imagery that holds a romance with the viewer. One gets the impression that he loves painting and he loves exploring it. Very Freshing and inspirational.

Campbarbossa Gallery, by hick on Nov 25, 2008 11:58:11 GMT 1, gallerymyarse i think you are being a bit naive saying case as an artist is 'average' as even if you do not like the subject matter (which you clearly don't) you can't deny the talent involved in creating photrealistic graff (which is a completely different form of art than stencils etc) case has been spraying for over 15 years so I hardly think he is a jonny come lately in the scene, he is managed by the same person that looks after herakut and everyone know case and akut are part of the ma'claim crew so it follows suit he would make the transition from street to gallery using the same team.
He clearly has talent , although i have not seen much i would want on my wall i can appreciate the talent involved.
The money his work goes for is in line with the cost of originals from a lot of artists (i could understand you saying the work was over inflated if you were just a print buyer as the jump in about 1k-but i assume you are not ?) over the last year his work has crept onto peoples walls, so hardly think 10 people owing and showing pieces on here is super hype.
Poppysunshine with regard to herakut I have a piece in the comission only show and I personally think its stunning enough to spend nearly two months wages on, if it holds it's price , cool, if not oh well i have a piece that means a lot to me on my wall. I think the two year thing is actually spot on, over the last year or so , we have all seen artists running to the big auction houses to sell work, then months later crash and burn because every auction that comes up features 4 or 5 works by said artist, the only herakut that has been to auction has been sent there by frankie (it sold for market value around the same as the new commissisons) by not oversaturating the market he is giving them time to breathe and deveop, find a price footing in an untested and unsure market and hopefully develop a long lasting career, for me there work is better than than banksy, walker etc etc etc, but that is me, it is dark and yet strangely beautiful.
just my two pence

Campbarbossa Gallery, by Poppy Sunshine on Nov 25, 2008 12:22:02 GMT 1, Hi Hick, I agree with all you said so hope none of my previous post came across wrong. Seth Carmichael told me about the 2 year thing with Herakut and I think it's a brilliant idea. I'm just a bit worried about how I'm going to get one myself. I loved that Herakut in the auction but ironically didn't go for it because of the bare breasts debate I was likely to find myself in. Yet here we are with bloodied babies, umbilical cords and afterbirth.

Campbarbossa Gallery, by jonpud on Nov 25, 2008 12:50:11 GMT 1, So loads of people can do photorealistic art. My kids paint with stencils. That doesn't make them brilliant or mean that Banksy is now demoted to useless. Why does that kid have a huge piece of umbilical cord wrapped round his wrist? Those things didn't happen at any birth I attended.
Think you will find that is the childs foot, not the cord!

Campbarbossa Gallery, by graeme501 on Nov 25, 2008 12:56:33 GMT 1, Buy what you like. If you like it, that's great but to a lot of people on these boards it's really average work. It's produced such a response not because of the quality of the piece. It's about the hype created for a month or two so "online galleries" can buy from an artist and then flip at huge profits. "Online Galleries" buy up a whole load of work by an artist, write a load of nonsense on here and people dive in. Wait a few months and then buy a piece when they've moved on to the next thing to be shamelessly plugged. I've only been buying art for 10 years or so, so not as long as ronhill, but just scratch a little under the surface and outside of the real galleries who do promote, invest, encourage and so on there is a load of bollocks going on, particularly with so called Urban Art.
i think u might have got a bit mixed up with the definition of so called 'online galleries' - campbarbossa is the official representative of case, as well as others like herakut, and works with the artist managing their work, their is no 'buying a whole load of work by the artist' and hyping up
