Never seen that before, where's the other 19?

I own this and to be honest wouldn't contemplate selling it for less than £100k. They will only become scarcer as Parla becomes a 21st century heavyweight in the contemporary art world.

They were $500 USD, they are 12" by 15" and they were sold by a small American college where Jose did a residency for a week in 2006.

Am I missing something? That looks like a pensioners pubes.

Parla hype aside, that print is flat. Doesn't matter nowadays tho 'cause its about the name...

Jose's work very much requires, and depends on, the viewer. In that way, it very much illustrates Duchamp's quote:

"The creative act is not performed by the artist alone; the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act."

This is where I find so much connection and depth in how I view Parla's work, above and beyond the artist's own conscious intentions(like those outlined by Al Moran). If you turn to a copy of Parla's book Cityscapes, Manon Slome states, “Parla is fascinated with how the city constructs itself and functions as a palimpsest, upon which the experiences of those who pass through are materially inscribed on decaying walls.” Personally, I view Parla's work a bit differently. Echoing Slome’s words, I am “fascinated with how we construct ourselves and how we function as palimpsests, upon which the experiences with others who pass through are inscribed on our decaying lives.” To me, the walls that Parla presents are a visible manifestation of what lies beneath our surfaces – the layers of experience, how others twist and turn through our lives, what remains in their wake(both visible and not), our words and the words of others, and the internal conflicts we have to trace through, like lines of Parla's calligraphy, before our resolution.

Parla's work does not merely show the walls, does not merely show writers/taggers long past, doesn't just show memories of Parla's own life. If you give it the chance, Parla's work acts as a mirror. It shows us.
