Jose Parla ๐บ๐ธ New Paintings โข Exhibition News โข For Sale, by beasty on Jun 2, 2008 16:59:46 GMT 1, Did you get those prices direct from Elms? I've heard that prices are going to rise significantly but these seem quite high ( at least for the big pieces).
The biggest Neates were about 8ft x 5ft I believe whereas the biggest Parla's in Italy were 6ft x 3ft( or 12ft x 6ft if you get a double panel piece).
The 6ft x 3ft pieces in Italy were 50K euros, incl VAT, so anywhere around the 90 - 100K GBP mark represents close to a 250% increase in prices, within 6-7 months!!
I'm glad we bought when we did as we certainly wouldn't be able to afford much at those prices!!

The "cheapest" Parlas in Italy were the watercolours at EUR9000 which was about GBP7000 plus 20% VAT (Italian) i think - so UK8400.
What is said above means the watercolours have gone down in price which cannot be right, unless the UK show has smaller watercolours. Am I correct in my analysis?!

yes they're expensive, but its hardly going to be priced at ยฃ5.99 this pricing should sort out who on their lists are buying for the love of the artist or the instant resale value

Whom did you speak with at Elms? The prices you listed are lower than what they were in Italy, so I find it unlikely those will be what the prices are at the next show.
Contacting Parla is futile... he stopped taking commissions last fall.

Jose Parla ๐บ๐ธ New Paintings โข Exhibition News โข For Sale, by inkheads on Jun 2, 2008 18:24:31 GMT 1, sorry to make things abit clearer....
at adam and ron show, the cheapest neates that were done (those spray can portraits) were done so the lowest entry piece, still affordable to you and i were ยฃ7K plus VAT = ยฃ8.25K (i know i got one)
i know the italy price for a watercolour (9K euros including italy tax) is gonna probably stay the same here.. so ยฃ7K ish plus VAT. not 100% sure of this price as we havent got to the exhibition yet. but i dont think elms will raise the price again from italy's prices. that would be stupid and not allow entry level, you and i to buy them.
then moving upto the mid range tier. neates portraits at the show were between ยฃ30-40K plus VAT depending on which one. and these are roughly 3-4foot sq. parla sized is gonna be the same on canvas... wood abit more.
those huge neates (haircut and the bar) were ยฃ115K plus VAT. i am sure for the same size-ish parla gonna be the same, again canvas and wood slightly different
and parla is doing NO commissions. unless you are a millionaire. and even thats not certain.
information from elms is clearly not concrete as its too early. but i am quite sure and other forum members agree. neate and parla on on the same desirable list and their prices are matching this year.
i cant see parla doing anything cheap. those days are gone. just hope elms do a nice book, but i think richard @ il triofoglio nero has set the standard.

I tried contacting him directly last year but never got a response. As Jam said though - no more commissions or studio visits.
Moving away from prices - I can fully understand the demand. You can spend ages looking at his work, trying to decipher which layer came 1st, 2nd, etc. Very similar to the feeling when you see a Pollock in the flesh and try to do the same( I had great fun doing this with my 10 yr old in the Whitney recently).
If you get the chance to buy and have the cash go for it - you'll never regret it!

Last time I spoke to Paul at Elms he said Neate was popular, but the interest in Parla was unlike anything he had seen before...
I have heard similar things from folks on both lists. They seem to get Neates offered to them but never get a parla sniff.
i disagree, no one is offering parlas right now but inbetween the elms parla show and the italian parla show there were pieces being offered all round, just very few openly. It's since his last show in italy that people have all decided to hold on. Eric clapton, tom ford and rumors of museum interest helps makes peoples decisions. Not long ago i had a large watercolour and a canvas on submission at no money and no one wanted them but you couldn't find a neate galery piece for love nor money. The owner decided to keep them both due to lack of interest. That was nov/dec 07. 5 months later and they have doubled in price and everyone wants one.
Maybe if the prices rise sharply again you'll see a few people cashing in on their parlas like they are now on their neates. Most people I know who have sold a neate original have all put their money back into another neate though.
These cycles seem to be quiet common in our little art world.

Comparing Neate's prices to Parla's is pretty dumb if you ask me. We know the prices from The Adam & Ron Show and Parla's Italy show. Speculating on prices, or saying they have to charge about the same because they are Elms marquee artists is pointless.
They are different artists, who work on diff. mediums, had different international exposure, different amount of years showing in galleries, etc.
Knowing what the prices are going to be is one thing; actually having the opportunity to purchase is a whole other can of worms!

Daniel Silk โข The number or Boards and Threads continues to fall as we simplify the layout of the forum.
Daniel Silk โข I hear a lot of Artists complaining about Instagram in the past year, how it used to be a good tool for Artists, but it's not good anymore, is that true?
anyaart โข For Brett Kern fans, I noticed there is a spinosaurus for sale on E-Bay. It's a limited edition, one of only 60 made. This is the rarest of his dinosaurs. I am not the seller. I already have the same dino purchased in 2016. I've never seen one up for sale
Daniel Silk โข Apology โข Sorry I have been offline this past few weeks, due to a very bad Fever. I'm slowly getting better, step by step, and catching up with things here on the forum on the days I'm well enough. Thank you for your understanding.
Boy Wonder โข I read that they were more or less nicked the same day they went up. Loads of fakes exist.
milou2 โข Would love to see any photos of Banksy's first exhibition at the Severnshed in Bristol (2000). Who was there?*
jirr โข Hi all, over here in the states. Pandemic put me out of business, need to sell this asap. Please send offers thanks so much
matgab โข Steven Harrington - Gotcha first ed for sale.
1nkling โข I can't help but think that a more reasonable tier for people who just want to support the work you guys do would raise more income. Then other tiers for those that want specialist benefits.
1nkling โข As soon as I saw the heading for the email I thought 'Oh yeah, I use that place a lot. I'd happily support it'. Not at ยฃ40 a month though. I have a paid sub for a Formula 1 site I use that is very active. They have a high uptake on subs at ยฃ12 a year.
1nkling โข Pricing on the new supporters sub seems a bit poorly thought out. ยฃ40 a month to have a pinned sale thread being the only listed benefit?
Daniel Silk โข The forum now has more than half the number of Boards than it had a year ago! As we work towards simplifying the layout.
ashj52 โข Hi everyone; does anyone know where I may be able to find a George condo prism print? Any guidance on price would also be much appreciated! I contacted AA, they said they cannot disclose whether there will be any further drops this year.
