D*face has been defaced, by onemandown72 on Apr 30, 2008 10:44:57 GMT 1, Whilst it was quite funny reading through what the guys had done to the site bottom line is that the whole thing is bang out of order.
Dface is an artist who has worked hard, become succesful and is now in a position to control his growth, where his commissions go to and how he works. Yet a group of petty small minded individuals who seem to feel that they "own" the street scene take it upon themselves to go out of their way to f*ck up his site. What do these pr*cks want, street artists to struggle all their lives, remain unknown to all but them and "Keep it real" why don't they grow up and allow people some form of sucess. In fact celebrate it rather than stamp on it. Rant over, it just makes me furious when you see this small mindedness

Whats cooking Josh,
Thanks man, really appreciated those words. Yeah, I didn't know that you grew up in the Bronx... the birth place for graffiti, it's the books Subway Art and Spray Can art that changed my life, most of the work in those books was Bronx based. I visited the Bronx for the first time last December, SEEN through a little post show party for me at his tattoo studio, so we rolled out their for that... heavy liquoring, no painting though, shame.
Sure I think I can get that stencil to partially fit what I have left. I'll do that for you, I'll probably drop a piece each side and you can frame it as you fancy. The Death & Glory in Hollywood piece is priced at ยฃ3500. Framed it's about 70cm x 70cm (28inchs x 28 inchs) wide, framed it adds a few inchs either side. It looks sweet in the flesh and the framing is super nice. Let me know what you think.
Look forward to meeting up state side.

Love your work. Not sure if Jordan mentioned but we grew up in the Bronx - surrounded by street art - so your work makes us feel right at home. I really appreciate you making the small fragment piece for me prior to your trip. The stencil from image 51of 74 off your website (below) is a favorite of mine but I also dig image 58 of 74 - whatever you think looks best in relation to the shape of the wall background. I'm also thrilled about the Kant Complain AP - so cool of you to part with it, so dope. Please let me know how much I owe you for these pieces.
My brother also showed me the works for the San Fran show. Everything is rad - love the Street Improvements pieces. However, Death & Glory in Hollywood reached out and grabbed me - curious what the price and size is for that as well, if it's not too much trouble.
Thanks again for everything, man. Look forward to meeting you soon.

Hi Josh, how you doing? Your brother introduced us and mentioned you'd be interested in a 15 years in the making piece and a Kant Complain print... both of which I can do for you. I've only a small fragment of the wall/background left to paint onto for the 15 years in the making piece, but I wondered if you had any particular stencil from this pas set that you liked? I also have a AP of the Kant Complain that i'll part with!
Let me know what your thinking and i'll get it done and packed before I head over to SF/LA and i'll bring it with me for you.

Christina and I would love if you could create a larger Pop Tart for us โ let us know what colors you think would work. The modified Dead Beatle in black would be dope too. The pin up piece is the one C is most keen on โ weโd love to discuss when we meet you.
My brother Josh is psyched that you can make a fragment piece of 15 years in the making to bring with you to Los Angeles. Heโd also love the Kant Complain AP. They are two of his favorites works of yours. I am copying him on this email โ so you guys can sort out the price and the best way for him to handle payment.

The SF show is only small, if you'd like I can send you a preview of the works i'm sending, could save you a trip... but it'd be nice to meet up in SF also. I generally don't attend my openings, I normally just roll through briefly and favour a local bar instead... so let me know if you and your brother might make it up so we can arrange to meet up. Let me know if you'd like to see photos of the works in advance, I could request the gallery gives you first option on the works.
Good selection! I'm afraid all those pieces are long gone, I also generally turn down reproducing past works as I see each piece relating to a show and moment of my life, however for you and Christina I'd be happy to produce works around these pieces.
The Pop Tart I could produce larger/smaller and in a unique colour, I can't however do yellow as i'd already produced that colour, but I could send you some colour options or if you had a colour specifically that would work for you, I can work to that.
The Dead Beatle, no problem it would have to be larger or smaller than the past piece, it could be black and because the colouring of the face is washes and inks it's naturally unique.
Keep on Keeping on... that was truly a one off, but was part of a theme/body of work and I had plenty of other Pin Up's planned out, so I could happily paint a new piece for you both.
For your brother I have a Kant Complain Artist Proof I would be happy to part with, the Green Pop Tart print I'm pretty sure I don't have even an AP of, but will check on this and as for the 15 years in the making, I have only a small fragment of the background/wall left, I wish I had more but stupidly didn't keep any! I could possibly create a small piece for him using the little I have left. These I could bring over with me if he'd like.
I'm sure that's more than enough for you to think on!
Speak and hopefully meet soon.
Cheers,
D

Christina and I have been trying to track down a few of your pieces for some time. We are looking for a yellow Pop Tart, a Dead Beatle, and Christinaโs absolute favorite is the Keep on Keeping on from your Death & Glory show. Are all of these pieces long gone?
My brother collects with us as well and he is looking for any of the small 15 years in the making originals, a Pop Tart in green or a Kant Complain Print .
Anyway, lets try and make a plan to get together when you are out on this side of the world. You have all of my contact info so just let me know your schedule when its closer to your dates.

Travel safe and we look forward to meeting you and the family soon.
Regards,
JB

Hi Jordan,
Nice to be in touch with you. Thanks for your words on my work I'm flattered that you and your wife are fans.
I had put all commissions on hold in order to concentrate on the new body of work which I'm currently busy on, but there's always exceptions to those self imposed rules! I'd be more than happy to work something out with you in order to be part of your collection... have you seen a piece or do you have anything in mind that your particular keen on?
If emailing works best for you thats good with me or if you'd rather speak I can easily give you a call. I'm also over in San Francisco for a small show with 24SF/Upper Playground on the 8th May, I'm then driving down to LA with my wife child and assistant to visit Shepard, Jeremy and others... so if you'd rather meet and discuss in person then I'll be around till the 16th.
Look forward to hearing from you.
All the pest.

I wanted to introduce you to an interested collector, I have CCd him on this email. His name is Jordan Bratman, him and his wife Christina Aguilera came by our new space for the Blek Le Rat exhibition that opened last weekend and acquired a few pieces. They are a very cool pair, them, as well as Jordan's brother collect and they asked if I would be able to put them in touch with you. I understand that you have exhibitions lined up and maybe your commission work is on hold, and I am not sure how you normally handle collectors that contact you directly, but I wanted to put you in touch. Hope all is well, send my regards to Tom and Beth. Look forward to seeing you all on our side soon. Best, Jeremy John Kaplan

I have nothing against making money from his art, but more the a celeb comes by and suddenly theres ap's available, free one offs and commissions when he would normally not be doing for normal people

Thats how banksy got his name out there and everyone was cool with that.
At least when someone writes about D* in a paper it does not start with the line 'brand and angelina' as thats one of the main thing thats people associate banksy with in the press

Im not to sure on that fact, thing is that stolenspace is a business so if they had everyone asking for one they would get no work done so its understandable.

Do these hackers want him to struggle through life just so he can be 'real'...surely the hackers themselves will one day have to conform to the 9-5 life in order to survive. I'm sure they'd rather be in d*face's position then than in some dead end souless job. I've never been the biggest fan of his work at all but have to respect him for making a living in something he loves doing
