i own a lot of his stuff but i am disappointed that i probably can't afford to own more of the ones i like - certainly not from the secondary market at the moment that's for sure.

D* Face is forsure very talented, but are you all honestly telling me you would rather own his stuff than Adam Neate's??? IMO this is what the street art world is based on and it is all hype. Beejoir, Micallef & Neate(to some degree) have all had their market hurt by all of this over-hyping! For one auction to blow up Nick Walker and D* Face because a few of their pieces sold for good money is crazy. the hurd will get burned in the long run. If Neate had a few prints in Bonhams auction they would have probably done very well, but because there was not any people forget about him. I may just be talking out of my ass, but I fear that these people that over hype a lot of these artists and then the hurd follows in mass buying could be very dangerous in the long run for street art....

D face doesnt do much for me and long term he will be lucky to be a footnote, as long as you like what you have is all that matters. Before you go laying out 1000's of your choice of currency think about whether you would want that on your wall in 10 years.

I do hope both Nick and Dface do not suffer from this sudden hype. Either way it will not stop me loving and wanting some of his pieces (you know you want to Manty... .
It will be interesting to see what Adam produces for his next show in May. If it even comes remotely close to "Paintings, Pots and Prints" then I think he will start to set himself apart from the rest.

On the bright side if enough of the wankers who are in it for the money get their fingers singed, lose a bit and fuck off, the healthier the whole pleasant habbit will be for the rest of us... I've got the utmost respect for anyone whos out there " doing it" in their own way, and firmly believe that alot of artists really dont want alot of the hype that is thrust upon them ( alot who deserve it dont want it, alot who want it definately dont deserve it). Personal opinion is great, pointless hype...... not so great. |
