Faile Fight Vanity Print at paper monster, by pezlow on Jun 18, 2008 16:22:27 GMT 1, Hmm. Not encouraging. Just called the missus, and got her to take it out of the tube, which is a difference for a start, because the other prints I've had from them have been shipped flat. She said that there was a piece of bubble wrap in the tube to stop it from moving around, and that one end of the print was 'very close' to the end of the paper. No damage apparently. She rolled it out, and I asked her to see what the hand finishes were. Her response was 'What hand finishes?'. I told her to look for paint splashes, coffee, etc. Nope. She looked at the back side of the print and noticed some discoloration, and located that back to the front. Any hand finishes, at least on mine, are just white paint (at least she thinks that it's white paint) splashes, but not to any noticeable degree. Not enough for her to demonstrate in a picture anyway. I'll have a look when I get home. It won't be for a couple of hours though folks.
Lol - would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for this conversation.
I think most PM things ship tubed - only the borf cardboard and lister prints were shipped flat, for obvious reasons.

Thanks for the post Felix - although, I am not really getting this one. Where is the hand finishing - at least with Confessions you could see deep brush strokes on the lady/dog etc - with a few dirty splatters of coffee...
Has anybody got any better pictures....great image, great faile - but not floating my boat on hand finishing.

Faile Fight Vanity Print at paper monster, by thetruth55 on Jun 19, 2008 6:03:26 GMT 1, Got my print. Overall very nice. The blue provides nice contrast. As for the hand-finishing, there are plenty of coffee splatters - all of them going through to the back of the paper. The entire print has been painted over in while acrylic (very thick, no real paintbrush strokes, but still has that "layered" feel), and then the images silkscreened on. A few of the classic Faile hairs and acrylic droplets balled up that provide a cool effect when the silkscreen goes over it.
One of the neatest parts I think is that the background text has been redone since "Rampage." This is the image that appears on the Israel/Palestine separation wall, and a lot of the text makes reference to the fighting going on over there. Cool feature I think...sort of an updated/edited "Rampage" version.
On another note, there is some sort of star pattern underneath the white acrylic on the shoulder of the fighter on the left. Anybody know what this might be? A background screen from another image? Or is it that this fighter is going to be "seeing stars" after the hook he is about to take on the chin??
coffee splatters going through to the back of the print:

In fairness Faile have been handfinishing their prints for years. Even when they were $100 each for an edition of 12 they were still all handfinished.... You can't really blame faile for increasing the prices and edition sizes as they have become more popular.
