Faile/FairQ Update, by robstar on Aug 17, 2008 21:06:24 GMT 1, Yeah I can see it from Faile's point of view, as Ebay auction sales don't really help them - it's not fair either - I understand that. I have a few more weeks til I need to sell the print anyway, so if anyone wants it on the forum in that time then no need for Ebay. x

Faile/FairQ Update, by Billy Sport on Aug 17, 2008 22:37:18 GMT 1, Hi Rob, I wasnt judging btw, I managed to get a Bunny girl stencil and wanted to sell something else I received earlier in the year, but thought I'd just ask Faile, and that was the reply (paraphrased). My little girl loved the bunny girl so couldnt turn it down, but funds are tight. They just asked not to sell anything straight away, which I can understand, and as I hope to buy in the future, would like to establish a good relationship with them( even though I'm small fry esp. after forthcoming Oct show!)

Faile/FairQ Update, by snakes on Aug 17, 2008 22:46:24 GMT 1, Good luck dude with the sale's. As you may well be aware, there are some people on this forum with good intentions and you can make the odd trade through this forum that flows smoothly. In reality - despite the fees charged ebay is just so much simpler as too many people on this forum dither due to the fact there is no 'commitment to buy'. Of the number of prints that i have sold via this forum (only 2 in total) i have been cocked around on selling about five times that amount!
Worst thing is when so called 'respected and log standing members' ask what the price etc is as they are interested - you reply and then you never receive a response! Has nobody these days simply heard of common courtesy?
Ding dong the Banksy hype is dead . Maybe we will soon be able to buy what we like for prices that they are worth due to the fact that the majority are finally realising that there are more important things than pretty walls!

To be fair, if it wasn't for ebay auction sales I don't think Faile would be charging the prices they now are for their new prints. All of their pricing for the last 2 years seems to be based on whatever things are selling for on the bay. So i'd say it has probably helped them considerably.

Faile/FairQ Update, by bobbymeachamjr on Aug 18, 2008 1:01:15 GMT 1, i contacted Faile for their views on re: selling on the new releases, they asked me they would prefer if stuff from the new release did not end up on ebay, and they rather it wasnt really sold on straight away. If it was needed to be sold, then via the forums.
Haha, we need input from faile as to what to do with stuff we own? As if making a million bucks in a single day for reproductions is not enough...

Faile/FairQ Update, by moleman on Aug 18, 2008 6:44:41 GMT 1, I think faile have also got there costing from ebay. The only problem for us the buyers is how flippant ebay can be from week to week. They made loads of cash i dont care well done to them but with out ebay where would 90 percent of sales come from in the secondary market. As i have pointed out before as soon as this art scene is selling predominatly in major high street galleries there will be no flips, no bargains that make you smile and think i got that cheap and its still great and no where to sell it on like you can now. Its good when the scene is grimey and real yes we hated having to buy on secondary markets for a mark up but there was less bitching and sniping because it was more fun. Wait for october fellas two massive top 5 artist releases and and another one will release twice before xmas mark my words as for the big b im going for nov december so knuckle down pay off some of that credit card and stop at your favorite piece and look at it. If your not smiling whats up with you

Faile/FairQ Update, by keysersoze on Aug 19, 2008 3:49:58 GMT 1, Yes I am in financial trouble and my partner is furious with me we almost split up. I am not trying to get anymore than I paid for it, so I really don't see the problem with trying to sell it. If I make no profit from it, then surely it's cool? I could be a bastard if you want and keep it for a year and sell it at high profit, but I'm not in this to make money.
Actually I think you do have to 'explain yourself'. Based on your statements, you should have never bought the print in the first place! If funds were tight or there was the possibility of your gf breaking up with your spending habits, then you already had your answer.
It doesn't matter if you sell it for cost, or a slight profit. Faile doesn't realease these to be instantaneously flipped, regardless what your (or anyone else's) sob story is. You are doing Faile a disservice by selling so quickly after a release and are adding salt to the wounds to people that initially wanted it.
Just put it as an auction-style listing on Ebay and be done with it. Don't use this forum to try to maximize your profit (or loss).

Think mr rob got carried away... we all do sometimes...
eg. You have a £600 ed of 1500 signed Banksy of that artist guy painting a giant p***s, in your Shopping Basket, would you proceed to checkout? You have 20 minutes to decide.
My answer - I DON'T KNOW! ain't life fun?

Sounds like someone is still better they didn't win a print in the Q. Who do you think you are to tell someone what to do with their print?
He's already paid Faile his $5000 and that really isn't doing them a disservice. The print will find a good home and he's not trying to flip this(even though you claim he is )

What are you on? Faile have not given their prints away he paid them big money, without ebay I doubt Faile could command their prices on the recent release. We all make mistakes and I can understand Robstar's situation, he has offered it up on the forum for a number of weeks at cost, most people (myself included) in the same situation would of gone straight to ebay. You have no right to slate him.

Thanks moleman - you're totally right.
And to whomever said I'm bitter I didn't win a Q, I didn't join any because I wasn't hugely enamored with this release and more importantly, I can actually control my spending habits.

Faile/FairQ Update, by Francis on Aug 19, 2008 19:19:54 GMT 1, Same as keysersoze. I think that geezer robstar is just trying to minimize his losses. He's made up this story to cover his tits and the truth could be that he purchased it solely for the intention of selling it for a profit. Now that he realizes he can't get much profit for it, he's just going to get some sympathy for selling it at cost or whatever. Really...if you truly have that many problems and a witch on your case about buying prints at this cost, why buy it in the first place? Try to be more responsible if your story is really what is going on.

Not to contradict here as I don't know what the facts are but I can see his situation being a reality as it is similar to what mine was. Bid on a few things, didn't think I would win any and then ended up getting the most expensive thing, much to the huge dismay of my wife. So for a bit there I was thinking I was going to have to let it go, but after discussion and her seeing it in person we made some adjustments and (so far, unless one of us gets fired or something based on the crap economy) we are keeping it. But it could have gone the other way as she was pretty put out by the sudden large expense. So all I am saying here is that it definitely COULD be true from personal experience.

I think your way off the mark. I dont believe Robstar bought this to sell, he's just found himself in a tricky situation, where he needs to recoup his outlay. And to be honest, what he does with his print is up to him.

I think your way off the mark. I dont believe Robstar bought this to sell, he's just found himself in a tricky situation, where he needs to recoup his outlay. And to be honest, what he does with his print is up to him.

Faile/FairQ Update, by robstar on Aug 20, 2008 9:49:15 GMT 1, Wow, I never thought I could create such a reaction. I'm impressed. lol
Jesus!
I've said it before and I'll say it again. OK SO I MESSED UP! I bought 3 Aikos, 1 Vhils, 1 Faile BIN print and 1 Faile Forbidden Love Stencil. Yes I was stupid buying so many, but I guess sometimes I can F**K UP! I'm only human. And it's not like I do this on a regular basis and I certainly won't be doing it again.
And for those who think I bought the Faile stencil as a way to flip - do you think I'm stupid? The prices we all paid for these Faile prints were VERY high so it's not like it's possible right now to sell straight away to make a profit. Everyone knows this. There is a recession in the USA (or at least one on its way) and everyone around the world is being more cautious with spending, so in many ways it's a buyers market, not a sellers. I'm so angry right now. You're making me want to keep the print even more, and I'll sell it when Faile do their Gagosian show, make myself a profit and email you to let you know how many thousands I made on it. Will that make you happy? ARGH!
Right, that's my last comments on this topic. If anyone wants to buy the Faile print, then great, if not no problem. There must be someone somewhere who would like it, and if not then I'll have to sell something else to put my finances in a better situation.
Amen.

Faile/FairQ Update, by robstar on Aug 20, 2008 9:53:56 GMT 1, Oh and even though I said that was my last comment, I forgot to tell you my GOOD NEWS! Revenues & Customs said I can get a refund as they've given me 5% import tax instead of the 17.5% I had to pay via FedEx, so all is not so bad as I'm getting some dosh back at last. So thanks to those here who PM'd me, you've seriously helped me out. x

Faile/FairQ Update, by hollowsphere on Aug 20, 2008 15:09:15 GMT 1, bread and jam for a couple of months hollowsphere? (without the jam)..
Heh, precisely. Certainly no more art for some time, I have hit my limit (but am happy with what I have at the moment).

Faile/FairQ Update, by BONZO on Aug 25, 2008 10:43:58 GMT 1, One can only presume that this is you Robster; shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/ard45
I don't think you'll get a single sniff with starting prices that high fella!
Stick em up with opening bids of 50p, with no reserve on them and you'll see some action! If it is a case of credit card/marriage damage limitation you may have to let them go at cost or there abouts - I sold my framed up GIWTBB to a mate at cost to enable me to keep my Scuba Horse and pay the mortgage!
Best of luck with all 5 sales though, and apologies if it's not you.

He only wants to recoup his costs? I guess his cost for this were more than we imagined. Looks like he also wants to sell it to purchase something else..."need to raise quick funds". People like him think they can take us all for idiots and marks sometimes.

Faile/FairQ Update, by robstar on Aug 28, 2008 10:44:38 GMT 1, Oh god you guys just don't get it do you. Amazing. Keep smiling.
I forgot I'd also bought the Faile Buy It Now print which has just arrived and it looks STUNNING. The best print ever. So for those who thought it looked rubbish you are going to be kicking yourselves. It's a classic, reminds me of the power of a Warhol or Lichtenstein! Has anyone else's arrived yet?

Faile/FairQ Update, by robstar on Aug 28, 2008 12:52:51 GMT 1, No I'm going to keep the Tender Forever as if I sell my 3 Aikos, Vhils and the more expensive Faile then all will be better... And seriously Tender Forever is a steal at that price, it's absolutely stunning. My Ebay listings should be back up tonight, so they'll end of Sunday as Ebay removed my listings because I'd worded something incorrectly! Argh! It's all been an uphill struggle but it's my own fault. I've learnt not to be a compulsive buyer.
