POW Open Day • 2008, by samo on Dec 7, 2008 18:20:01 GMT 1, i went yesterday, got there at 5 to 11 and was in the queue for 3 hours to get into the print rooms! was stood on my own wearing a black coat and jeans (same as everyone else!). i was behind 2 guys, one had a black and grey addict coat on, behind me was a guy and blonde girl im sure i recognise from somewhere and they were chatting to a guy who knew all the pow crew well, think his name was ali. would be good to put names on here to faces now! once in didnt really know what to check out first. there was a lot i liked and im glad i stuck it out in the queue. love the thomas tank engine, the banksy photos and the insect edition of 12 looked amazing. also loved the blu sketches but for 1500 they were pretty bluddy small! i also really liked the sam3 prints on silver paper and on card. low editions and they looked amazing, really well printed but i couldnt quite afford 400 for one. i did however buy a blu print. its called headquarters and is very similar to the one on the tate. as soon as i saw it i fell in love with it and couldnt stop looking at it, i think its fantastic and is very good value for 200 quid. it wasnt priced up so i asked one of the pow guys who said it was a 5 colour screenprint, it looks handfinished but isnt, i love it. he also said blu was currently finishing a batch of completely handfinished ones, he had apparently already done 20 but the guy said they had already been pestering him for some more but hes a busy guy! after checking out all the work i headed outside and bought some postcards, picked up some stickers and bought a blue t shirt with the pink design by titfreak on it. was tempted by a cyclops figure but instead just stuck to 20 banksy tickets then f**ked off home, caught the second half of united and hit the casino for my mates 22nd! good day all round!
Cheers for the report Shower. I was wondering if you could post some pictures of the Blu print? Have you also seen the print from Blu with the tanks as seen on the opening page from the POW website?

POW Open Day • 2008, by thetongue on Dec 7, 2008 18:57:54 GMT 1, Long long day... Got to Aquarium at 11am, got some bits there, then went to POW, queued for two and a half hours to get tickets.... (About 3/4's of the way there), had veggie burger on way... Couldn't face the extra 1-2 hours to get into the gallery so went to see Steph at Stella Dore to pick up my new Eine, had a chat there, went to the Sickboy show (not my cup of tea) then went to BlackRat Press to see what is on show there. Had a quick beer in The Dragon bar and then back to Aquarium to pick up a couple of Reid's that I bought earlier. Shattering day. My only piece of advise for anyone going to POW today just to buy tickets would be to keep an eye out for the queue for the tickets as this is different than the one for the gallery. Basically, the gallery queue is the longer one.
2 1/2 hr queue just to get tickets?! That's commitment. Was zero queue in the afternoon!

POW Open Day • 2008, by darrenrapley on Dec 7, 2008 19:11:06 GMT 1, lol - you know that is not my point no, what is your point?
I entered the lottery to try to win the chance of buying a print. The fact that my money went to charity is a good thing, don't get me wrong, but I don't make it a rule to queue 2 hours to be benevolent.
Regarding giving money to charity, I sponsor a child in India, two white Rhino's, spent over £100 last Friday at a YMCA charity event to raise money for the homeless's xmas meal and have given over 60 OAP's free theatre tickets for this wednesday

However, I went yesterday to try to get a print

POW Open Day • 2008, by Andy'77 on Dec 7, 2008 19:25:49 GMT 1, Went yesterday, got early train from Leeds and got to Shoreditch at about 8am, saw there were around 10 people in the queue. Kept checking back and joined the queue proper at about 10am. Chose the wrong line when they opened the gate and got lottery tickets first. Then joined the other queue and had an hour wait to get in POW. I didn't buy anything in the end.
It was exactly what POW said on the site, nothing more, nothing less. Didn't think there was anything close to carnage just some good quality old fashioned queuing. Then went to Stolen Space, Black Rat, Mutate Britain, Stella Dore, Sickboy and finally all the Laz galleries. Long day but good. Mutate Britain was really good.
Thought Micallef's Bethlehem looked really good, much better than the preview on the site. Also did anyone ask if that was the final size that Very Little Helps is going to be or what edition size it'll be?

POW Open Day • 2008, by Wiseblood on Dec 7, 2008 19:27:40 GMT 1, Curley looks well board in this pic
I was about where the arrow is.
The best thing of the day was the break dancing welsh dudes, and a puppy pug.
Saw a few forum members all though think they all might be ex members now, not sure. Thought it was a good day but not worth the 10 hours worth of driving, all felt a little rushed.

POW Open Day • 2008, by danvnuk on Dec 7, 2008 19:37:16 GMT 1, Hmmm can't believe I queued yesterday for 2 hours on my tod - didn't see anyone I know at all until I got to right near the front, where Mammal told me I didn't need to queue anymore if I just wanted lottery tickets - didn't realise the queue was to get in POW only <slaps head>.
Luckily the three rather attractive American girls in front of me in the queue provided something to distract me, so It wasn't as bad as it could have been I guess.
